PROVOLK IS 10!🎉🎉🎉

Hello! Jonathan here. Having practised on my own for 10 years, I thought I did something different here on social media and give a casual introduction and share my story over these last 10 years.

It was definitely not easy, having gone through different partnership paths and eventually settling down on my own again. This 10th year is definitely a kind of reboot, a chance to start afresh, reflect on the practice and chart new paths ahead.

I'm now (more than ever) determined to try out something new on social media. The past 10 years brought many opportunities to learn and to grow. It would be selfish of me to keep it all to myself and to my grave. Hence, what better way to celebrate 10 years of existence than to share my stories in practice and in design as a way of giving back to the community.

The bedroom is not just a place to sleep, it's also your personal oasis. To make it unique to the individual, we take a top-down and bottom-up approach in design which results in surprising and delightful outcomes. Over here, even though the client had a clear preference for blue accents, we opted to go for a complementary warm palette and a pop of cork textures to help soften the space and make it a conducive place to rest and recharge in comfort.

Recess areas outside HDB units are a rarity. Most times, they integrate seamlessly into the interiors. Stepped recess areas such as this however can be a challenge to deal with, but we saw this as an opportunity to create a unique sunken entryway that becomes a natural threshold between the private and the public while simultaneously adding depth to the open common spaces.

New beginnings in 2023: Provolk is now Independent!

Provolk Architects is in its 10th year of operation!

Through these 10 years, we were honoured to be part of the ground up conservation efforts of Dakota Crescent from 2014 to 2017. Since then we have been actively involved in various ground up conservation initiatives (some successful, some not) like Pearlbank Apartments and Golden Mile Complex through Docomomo Singapore. We were also elated to grab the 2nd prize in URA’s IDEAS competition for the revitalization of the Pasir Panjang Power District. We also won awards at the DBCS IDEA awards The Canopi Hotel and The Elephant Room in 2017 and 2020 respectively as well as the SG Good Design Award in 2021 for Secret Salon.

In 2021, Provolk Architects joined the WY-TO Group after winning with WY-TO the Reinventing Cities Competition for the Bukit Timah Fire Station. 2 years on however, we decided to part ways and remain as an independent architectural firm after actively contributing meaningfully to the Group. We saw merits in doing this so that we have increased flexibility in our operations and are able to serve our clients and partners better.

Following this transition, we would like to announce that we have refreshed our branding with a new logo to take us through the next 10 years and more. Do stay tuned to our social media to be updated on our future plans and developments as we unfold new collaborations and projects for the new year.

Once again, we thank you for your support and we invite you to continue to work with us or collaborate with us as we enter this new phase.

Something we did some time back with WY-TO in redefining the use of JTC flatted factory building as co-living spaces for the well-heeled tech geek, taking advantage of its deep plan to introduce cross ventilating airwells and optimizing natural lighting.

We are extremely excited to announce that we have won the C40 Global Competition for the Bukit Timah Fire Station together with WY-TO, our long term working partner without whom this win could never have happened. This is a colossal collaborative effort between various consultants, experts and partners, some of which include Studio Lapis (Conservationist), Shophouse & Co (Place-makers), Edible Garden City (Urban Farmers), Land Design One (Landscape designers), i.em Engineering Consultants, Spectrum Structural Engineers Building System & Diagnostics and many other partners who have made this possible.

We also want to thank Homestead Group Asia and TE Capital for believing in us through the entire journey! We look forward to the realisation of this project, a first of its kind green development, all about Good Food and Good Life!

We recently completed the Limau Walk house where we redefined the volumetric composition of the facade whilst introducing landscape. The product is a new but understated building in the neighbourhood
