Do you love a good sapwood border?

Sapwood is a key feature of all live-edge wood slabs - it is, after all, literally the living edge of the wood, transporting water, nutrients and all those goodies during the tree’s lifetime!

Yet while we typically love the solid border created by the sapwood edge on a wood slab, sometimes, spatial constraints require us to trim the width of the dining table, removing the sapwood.

Fortunately, the beauty of nature really knows no limits - by removing the sapwood, we are blessed with yet another gorgeous feature: the continuous wood grain seamlessly flowing from the surface over the sides 😍

This dining table was super lucky, enjoying the best of both worlds! We love how it features both the solid border AND the revealed wood grain, creating such a striking yet balanced aesthetic.

What features do you look out for in your solid wood slab?

Some of us look for colour, others look for shape. Personally, I love the unique details in the wood grain - formed by the unpredictable forces of nature, each natural crevice, every chatoyant shimmer coming together to form the wood slab’s unique fingerprint.

Did you know: even two slabs side by side, taken from the same tree wouldn’t be identical?

Finding your perfect wood slab is truly equal parts luck, chance and destiny.

What a great start to November: sharing our latest custom build with you! 🤩

Customising a piece of furniture is truly such a collaborative process: from getting to understand your functional needs, to learning your aesthetic preferences.

This bar table has so many beautiful elements, like the single slab of walnut sourced specially for the table top, but MY FAVOURITE detail has got to be the table brace 🤓

At 2.9m long, this table top needed support, and I love that our product team designed the brace to match the profile of the footrest perfectly, so there would be a sense of balance and symmetry to the final product.

I’ve always found that it’s the littlest details that make the biggest difference - from the height of the footrest, to the overhang depth on the table top - it’s subtle, but the sense of peace when things are built “just right” is honestly priceless 😌😍

The strong, straight lines of Oak are more often seen in built furniture like cabinets, so it’s always a pleasure to get to see the full expression of the wood’s character in a whole slab 🥹

Completed with clear resin to fill in the knots (gotta keep it ), we love how the Oak dining table here adds some light to a relatively dark dining area, bringing balance.

It’s such a simple but lucky story - this slab had just been loaded on the website the night before, at JUST the moment that they were browsing the website for new pieces! When they came in first thing the next day, the slab hadn’t even been moved into the showroom yet 😂

And that’s why we say finding the perfect slab is kind of like adopting a pet - every piece has its own inimitable character, and every meeting is a matter of timing and a lot of luck.

🌳 It’s sustainable - reconstituted from fast growing trees that replace themselves within 5-10 years.

Generally, light-toned woods like Ash and Oak fit clean, minimalist Scandi/ Japandi styled well, while darker tones like Suar and Walnut add warmth and earthiness to a modern space.

Ditching the tablecloth laundry for warm, natural textures, we are so glad to be part of this fresh look from !

For this project, solid Mahogany slabs were custom stained to match the new furnishings. Grounding earth tones balance this light-filled space wonderfully, creating a cozy yet uplifting vibe that's absolutely perfect for a relaxing and happy catchup session over lunch/ dinner.
