It's filming day! Not too big, not too small, our urban farm is perfect for filming your product launch or a documentary / drama!

This is the Apis florea, or Red dwarf honeybee. There are four honeybee species in Sg and this is our favourite as they are very tame and build a single exposed comb on a branch, so it's easy to cut out and relocate.

Look closely and you'll see the red and white on their abdomen. Happy National Day Singapore!

This is the fourth iteration of our honey collection, and probably our neatest. Inspired by the award-winning KL bar , it showcases rare honey varietals from around the world- like Australian Margaret River peppermint to a Zambian village multifloral.

Who said schools have to be scared of bees and kill them at first sight? This turns everything on its head: recently invited us to install honeybees at their premises!

We installed two hives for them inside their preschool premises, which are doing very well due to the abundant floral resources in Seletar's Black & White house neighbourhood.

They get the kids involved in feeding the bees daily, and even purchased beesuits for them to do bee encounters once in a while!

To house a beehive at your place, we run an adoption programme -- DM us to start your journey as a bee-keeper in just a few days!

You're looking at a Lazarus queen bee. After a recent bee rescue, we had found and caged the queen for a day, but she unfortunately died for some unknown reason. But honeybees have this amazing ability to re-queen, but choosing a suitable larvae and feeding it royal jelly for a week.

This transforms its fate from ending up as a normal worker bee, into literal royalty- she'll emerge 2+ weeks later as their new queen!

Without having done this, the colony would have died a slow death... but now this fine young thing, after having mated, will start laying eggs to again resupply the colony! You can see how slim her abdomen is, which will swell after she is mated and filled with s***m and eggs.

The queen is dead; long live the queen!

$0 COMPOST TOWER IDEA

The secret to healthy plants (sunlight exposure aside), is healthy soil -- a rare commodity in concretised Singapore. Soil here is poor because it receives little organic inputs.

Here on our rooftop showcase farm, we compost aggressively: All our household's veg waste + donations from neighbours go either into our compost bin, or compost towers installed directly on our soil beds. The earthworms and other soil organisms help to mineralise all this good stuff, enriching our soil 24/07. The result is rich and dark organic soil and very grateful plants 🥰

Anyone can do it and the best thing, it's free! Just slice the bottom off a small pot, press firmly into the soil, and use the base as a cover. Put your discarded greens inside then mix with a bit of dried leaves (we use 1:3 ratio). Add a few earthworms. And let nature do the rest!

It's been almost two weeks now (and we were a little distracted by our recent adventure in Africa), so it still hasn't quite sunk in that The Sundowner won Singapore's Outstanding Tour Experience 2024, as awarded !

In other words, we run the actual literal best tour in Singapore. What a recognition and we are so proud to carry the flag for local tourism, and nature conservation and experiences.
