[Project Give Heartlands]
I was honoured to join IAEC & Singapore Indian Development Association SINDA for their Project Give Heartlands @ Keat Hong CC, where they brought together beneficiaries for a heartfelt Deepavali celebration. It was truly heartwarming to see our community partners and agencies come together, creating a memorable evening with food, gift packs, and engaging activities for everyone. I also jumped into a quick game of five stones—it definitely brought back fond memories of the good old days!
It’s inspiring to witness how events like these bring joy and connections to our community, especially during the festive season. Looking forward to more moments that celebrate our shared bonds in Keat Hong! ❤️
Proud to witness the conferment of National Day Awards at the Investiture 2024 for our Keat Hong Grassroots Leaders: Mr Bobby Ng BBM, Ms Hamidah Aidillah binte Mustafa PBM, and Ms Cheryl Teo PPA. Thank you for your selfless service and dedication; and for inspiring me in your own ways.

[Digital for Life Festival]
Last weekend, I was thrilled to attend the annual Digital for Life Festival at Keat Hong Community Club, and it was a pleasure to welcome MOS Rahayu Mahzam to our CC! 🌟
The festival buzzed with energy as residents explored emerging technologies and discovered how they can enhance our daily lives. From picking up digital skills and scam prevention tips to trying out new sports through VR and honing presentation skills with AI, there was something for everyone to check out!
I believe in fostering a digitally inclusive Singapore, and this festival provided a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, learn, explore, and play an active role in this journey.
If you missed it, don’t worry! The Digital for Life Festival continues over the next two weekends at Heartbeat@Bedok (2-3 Nov) and VivoCity Central Court (9-10 Nov). Let’s embrace the digital future together!

I was delighted to join Keat Hong Zone 1 RN for their door-to-door Deepavali cheer, distributing festive goodies and celebrating with residents. It was heartwarming to see families spring cleaning and sharing their excitement as they prepare for the Festival of Lights. The visit reminded me of the strong bonds and shared joy that make our Keat Hong community so vibrant and connected.
Through initiatives like these, we’re not only celebrating diversity but also strengthening our commitment to inclusivity and unity. Here’s to a bright and prosperous Deepavali for all! 🪔
At our Keat Hong Branch we not only handle MPS cases every Monday but we also share preloved wheelchairs with our residents and their loved ones. Some of them just need it for short-term use before returning the wheelchairs for others to use. This Care-on-Wheels initiative has been going on for years. Do contact us, if you know of anyone who needs a wheelchair.
Had a good time at the Rock Untuk Rakyat concert at Woodlands Stadium in aid of Gaza with fellow GRAs SMS Zaqy Mohd and Sharael Taha. Thank you to Mariam Jaafar for this wonderful initiative raising over $171,000 for RLAF humanitarian assistance to provide critical aid for children and families affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza; focusing on delivering essential health, relief, education, and medical supplies. If you wish to contribute, details of the fundraising appeal is at the RLAF website. RLA Foundation Singapore Mariam Jaafar Zaqy Mohamad Sharael Taha
Last week, as adviser of the Union of Telecoms Employees (UTES), I witnessed UTES U-Care Fund Education Awards and Bursary celebrating the educational success and achievements of our union members’ children. It was such a touching and meaningful event seeing families get together; supportive in our children’s educational journey.
My heartfelt gratitude to all our hardworking UTES ExCo, unionists, members and partners including Singtel, SingPost, Netlink NBN and U-Care Fund; for making this a memorable occasion and milestone for our students.
Grateful to be part of our recent community grocery distribution drive, where we came together to support 93 families within the Chua Chu Kang GRC community. With the dedicated efforts of Keat Hong C2E, Keat Hong Tiger Scouts Group, and Fei Yue FSC, along with the generous sponsorship from our corporate partner, Marsh McLennan, we were able to provide essential groceries to households in need.
These efforts showcase the strength of our community spirit and the importance of looking out for one another, especially during challenging times. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, organisers, and partners who made this initiative a success. Together, we’re building a stronger & a more resilient community.

Since its establishment in 1965, Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM) has been consistently rendering assistance through bursaries and scholarships to students from all walks of life, pursuing diverse fields of studies at local and overseas institutions.
I had the privilege to attend to attend the LBKM Scholarships Award Ceremony this year. It was a record breaking number of awardees this year; coming from diverse backgrounds and pursuing various educational fields and expertise. Each of them showcasing their own tenacity and determination; rising above the challenges and difficult circumstances that they face.
I was proud of their achievements and touched to see the faces of families and loved ones present who supported them in the journey. But most of all it reminded me of my own journey.
Growing up in modest circumstances, with my father as the sole breadwinner, finances are really tight. When we cannot afford the feeder bus fare, we walk the 20-minute journey into town central to borrow books from the public library. When we have enough to spare, we saved up to buy books – textbooks, assessment or story books. When we can, we wrap these in plastic, in order to preserve them in pristine condition and share these hand-me-down books.
When a student in a family receives an LBKM bursary, it helps ease the burden. But more importantly, it spurs them on. That LBKM as an organisation believed in them. That we should not waste their contributions. That we should not let down those who have faith in us.
This is the story of LBKM. Not all of us benefited directly from their efforts for almost 6 decades, but almost all of us have been impacted positively by the work that LBKM has done. Families like mine; students like me and my siblings. If you know anyone who needs assistance, do apply for the bursary. For those who had benefitted and received, I hope you can contribute and pay it forward. So that many generations of students to come will continue to benefit from the good work of LBKM. 🙏
I had a wonderful time joining our Keat Hong RNs for our regular house visits last month. We started at Block 340 in Zone 1, where I was excited to share our new Special Edition Keat Hong Newsletter. It highlights our achievements of the past five years, latest developments, and exciting things residents can look forward to in the future.
Over at Block 437 in Zone 2, I shared news about the upcoming Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP), which will refresh the surrounding facilities and enhance community spaces. Residents were also encouraged to join the Mid-Autumn festivities at the open space in front of Block 432—the last major event before construction starts in early 2025. It was heartwarming to see many residents coming together to celebrate at the Lantern Wonderland event.
We wrapped up the month’s visits with a stop at Block 443 in Zone 3, where I caught up with residents to discuss their concerns and share updates about the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) and the upcoming Lift Upgrading Programme. With Keat Hong Plaza nearby, residents can look forward to vibrant events and activities coming their way, which will bring new energy to the heart of our community!
Sharing this wonderful initiative in Woodlands by my friend Mariam Jaafar to raise funds for RLAF in aid of Gaza. Funds will be administered by RLAF in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), and Humanity Matters. Do join me to contribute and donate to this worthy cause. Having witnessed previous humanitarian and fund raising, here and in Jordan and Palestine earlier this year, I am grateful that we continue to help in whatever way we can.
This is a picture of me with my classmates at the MOE Language Centre (MOELC). Coming from a neighbourhood secondary school, there was no opportunity for me to study higher mother tongue or third language in my own school.
I joined the classes at MOELC later than everyone else in Sec 1; learning was outside of our normal school hours. But it was an enriching 4 years and life-shaping experience for me. Not just because of the excellent teachers at MOELC but also because of my classmates who come from different schools, diverse backgrounds and race; fostering greater interactions, and learning.
Hence I’m glad that PM Lawrence Wong in the National Day Rally 2024 announced more opportunities for students whose overall scores do not meet the criteria but who did very well in their Mother Tongues, to also take Higher Mother Tongue from Sec 1. This promotes greater mixing and learning for students with diverse backgrounds. In response to my recent parliamentary question on this, MOE also reiterated this commitment. Learning is a journey that is more enriching if we do it together having support for one another from different pathways.

Proud to note that Singapore will nominate Ambassador Rena Lee for election as a Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2026.
Ambassador Lee is an eminent international law practitioner and diplomat. I attended the recent Singapore International Law Association Symposium where Ambassador Lee gave a fantastic keynote speech on international law. It was held at the historic Old Parliament House Chambers where I took my oath as a parliamentarian 4 years ago. At the Symposium we discussed / debated on issues regarding the growing access to International Law including the International Court of Justice with my fellow Dentons Rodyk senior partner Herman Jeremiah being one of the moderators.
I am glad that Ambassador Lee has been nominated by Singapore as a judge in the ICJ given her expertise in diplomacy, and commitment to justice. If elected, she would be the first Singaporean to serve on the ICJ since our United Nations membership in 1965 🇸🇬🇺🇳
Throwback to the Chua Chu Kang GRC Post National Day Rally 2024 Dialogue together with DPM Gan Kim Yong and fellow GRA Don Wee, where we reflected on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s bold and inclusive vision for Singapore’s future. His message of building a more inclusive society aligns perfectly with our ongoing efforts in Keat Hong to create a caring community that nurtures everyone’s aspirations.
With more than 140 participants, we engaged in meaningful discussions on how to overcome challenges ahead and strengthen our social compact. It was an inspiring session that reminds us of our role in co-creating a better Singapore, rooted in the values we uphold in Keat Hong.
Your valuable feedback will help us to create a vibrant neighbourhood where we stay connected as one community. Together, we can foster a brighter future for all and make Chua Chu Kang GRC a place where we all .
My PQs for this parliamentary sitting; including
* prevention of corruption in our public service and volunteers,
* wealth stagnation and uplift measures for segments of our population,
* security implications of the recent explosion of telecommunication devices in Lebanon,
* enhanced eligibility and data for Silver Support Scheme and Lease Buyback scheme,
* bullying trends in schools,
* enhanced support for single unmarried children to live near elderly parents,
* mitigating noise disamenities during MRT construction and operations and
* support for our farmers in Lim Chu Kang and Kranji.
[Heritage Tour by Zone 1 RN & Keat Hong Tiger Scouts]
Keat Hong Zone 1 RN & Keat Hong Tiger Scout Group recently organised an exciting Heritage Tour. The children were buzzing with excitement as they set off to explore Singapore’s rich history at the Former Ford Factory and Kranji War Memorial. 🚍🏛️ It was heartwarming to see their bright smiles as I interacted with them before they hopped onto the bus.
Seeing our young ones actively engage with history and deepen their understanding of our nation's heritage is always inspiring. Activities like these not only nurture their aspirations but also strengthen our community spirit. Looking forward to more opportunities where our children connect with the past and help shape a vibrant future for all! ❤️

I joined residents at the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) Public Consultation on Sat, 5 Oct 2024 for Bills 429 to 441 residents. It was a fun-filled morning with refreshments, carnival treats, games and performances!
I shared the key highlights of the NRP and residents viewed the proposed plan through the exhibition boards. Many residents have shared their ideas which will be taken into consideration for the revised proposal in the upcoming Consensus Gathering.
Those who missed the event can visit the link below to view the proposed plan and cast their support vote. Your vote is crucial and we require 75% support from eligible households to proceed.

[Family Fiesta by Fei Yue FSC]
I was delighted to join Fei Yue’s Family Fiesta at The Arena, alongside DPM Gan Kim Yong and fellow GRA Don Wee, in celebration of Children’s Day! 🎉
This year’s event was special as it marked the 10th anniversary of Fei Yue’s Transnational Family Work. Their dedication to supporting families, especially those navigating the unique challenges of cross-cultural marriages, is truly commendable. The programmes they’ve developed—providing support from language classes to marriage support—play a crucial role in strengthening the bonds within our community.
It was also wonderful to see Keat Hong Zone 7 and Zone 8 Residents’ Networks providing their support, reinforcing how community partnerships between our GROs and Fei Yue benefit our residents. Through this partnership, our community has access to vital resources and support.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this Children’s Day celebration memorable. It was truly a day of joy, connection, and reflection on the importance of family and community. I look forward to more shared efforts in supporting our residents! 💪❤️

A big thank you to all our Zone 1 residents who joined us for the Jurong Region Line works updates!
