Fortitude for 2024
Children’s Cancer Foundation holds a special meaning in our founder, Dr Daniel Goh’s life. Back in 2019, his fifth child had been diagnosed with a malignant form of rhabdoid tumour at 4 months old. Unfortunately, the cancer had been too aggressive him and after a two month fight, he breathed his last on 1 September 2019.
Having experienced first hand of how a child’s fight against cancer can be draining and heart breaking, Dr Goh was more than happy to commission 12 year old, Sophia Quek in her charity choice.
So this is our finalised 2024 Hongbao design! 毅 for Fortitude or Perseverance, carries both Sophia’s and our hope and wish for the coming year.
The mountains in the picture represent the hurdles in one’s life which are always made easier to get through with a community with us, depicted by the two different sized dragons.
Each packet of 8 costs $16 (or more if you feel generous) and you can make your donation in the link on our main profile!
Just like this year’s, you would need send us a screenshot of your donation together with your mailing address and number of packets to be mailed out. Alternatively, you could choose to pick it from any of our dental clinics when you come for your treatments!

For the past few days, the clinic’s been missing having this star around. In case you have been wondering, our dear Dr Goh was actually in Phnom Penh helping people with their teeth because the world can do with a little charity and kindness.
In case you have been missing him as much as we did, he is finally back and ready for work tomorrow (7/12)!
And while not everyone thinks that this dentist is nice, we assure you his heart is made of gold 😅

Because everyone can help someone
The dentists and staff from Healthway Dental came together for first gala dinner last night.
For the past 13 years, TSM has been providing weekly meals for the one room flat residents in Lengkok Bahru.
We probably made charity look easy here since we just needed to look pretty and feast. But as we walked away with our stomachs full, our hearts were fuller knowing someone in the hood had benefited from our contribution.
Charity can come in many forms… cash, service, a kind word or even a smile. Let’s try to do more acts of charity together… because small acts of kindness when multiplied by many can transform the world. ♥️
Oh! And of course if you need help with your smile… our doors are always open for you 😄

We ended last year’s post with a team shot only to start this year’s with a group shot.
In case, you aren’t aware, is actually a baby brand of (cuz we are barely a year old!!!) and recently had our joint team lunch with our Healthway Dental colleagues! (Thanks boss!!!)
So if you see some familiar faces at both entities, don’t worry they aren’t moonlighting! 😅
All of our clinics will be open on Saturday (21/1) till 1p.m in case you need any last minute dental help. But don’t worry, we will be back in action on Wednesday as usual.

We had initially planned to write about our milestones we had achieved in 2022… but those simply paled in comparison to the trust, the confidence and the friendships we have forged this year.
For our characters you see in , many of which we have yet to introduce you to, thank you for choosing to be part of us even with the many offers you probably will get from elsewhere. Your commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed and we are glad we have you guys in our team... and in a special way our family.
For our patients who have allowed us to write stories with, we are humbled by your trust and support. We cannot thank you enough for your recommendations to your friends about us, your reviews you have shared and your returned visits time and again.
For the great author from above… thank you for holding the pen and allowing us to participate in this wonderful journey.
We have yet to take an updated team picture of us and we will use one of our favourite pictures we took at the beginning of our journey to wrap up the year.

Hong Baos of Joy 2.0
Our Hong Baos for both fundraising and giving our patients are running low and we have printed another 100 packets of it… this time in red and yellow!
In case you weren’t aware, this design is specially drawn by our 12 year old patient in support for .
On top of the $1000 pledge to Singapore Association for Mental Health, will be bearing the costs of printing, mailing and donating all funds raised.
As a business entity, we may not be able to do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good we can do.

HongBaos of Joy
It’s officially the start of our project.
We are humbled and encouraged with the enquiries and support received on the red packets.
We are happy to share that our giving.sg page is finally approved.
As part of the campaign by Singapore Association for Mental Health, donations raised through this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by ToteBoard and Government.
So other than the $5 ToothStories pledge for every $16 pack you purchase will in fact raise $42 for SAMH!
We understand that it may take quite a bit of effort on your part and we hope you could help us a little for our first charity project.

Each packet comes with 8 hongbaos, 4 in pink and 4 in orange.

Supporting Our Community
Our uniquely designed red packets have arrived and we are so excited about it!
is extremely grateful and humbled for all your support for the past year. As we come to the end of 2022 and welcome 2023, we are also reminded of the many people who may be struggling and trying to cope emotionally and mentally during this period.
Tapping onto our very talented 12 year old patient, Zoe Kwek, who has chosen as her charity choice, we hope you will join us in our first charity effort.
The playful bunnies and blooms symbolise optimism for the new year and the hope to bring joy to those who receive these “Hong Baos”.
We have reserved a portion for our patients visiting our clinics in December and January (first come first served basis) and will be selling them at $16 for a pack of 8. Details will be in the giving.sg link later.

100% of the funds collected will go to the Singapore Association for Mental Health.

Apart from bearing the printing costs, ToothStories is also pledging $5 for every $16 contributed.

We only have 200 packets for the first batch of fund raising.. and are considering to increase it should there be a demand for it.

Grow a Mo… Support a Bro.
The start of November means the start of Movember.
Movember was first started in 2003 changing the face of men’s health, in particular prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues.
1 in 4 men experience mental health issues, the highest rate of depression among men aged 40-59.
Almost one-fifth of the men in Singapore get prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in men after colon and re**um.
Over and above growing a moustache, Movember month is a movement to encourage men to live longer and happier.
And as always, the best prevention strategy is annual screening and early detection, which if you have no trusted doctors, is more than happy to provide their service for this.
Growing a moustache this month is an excellent way of bringing awareness to men’s health and not to hide your teeth and more importantly your smiles.

Meet the Team!
It has been almost two weeks since the opening of our Jurong clinic. And in the midst of the excitement of this new baby, we are even more excited having this lady heading it.
Medicine may heal diseases but doctors heal doubts.
Dr Shirley is an example of how healthcare is really between the doctor and the patient. And in her you will find the patience to listen to what is the problem, the calmness to put you at ease, the gentleness to do all she can to help and the integrity to put the patient before business.
“To most physicians, my illness is a routine incident in their rounds, while for me it’s the crisis of my life” is a quote from Anatole Broyard and the principle which guides Dr Shirley in practising dentistry. 😍
Our Jurong clinic may be very new and very young, but that would not mean anything if we didn’t have someone with those principles to head it.
We are fortunate to have her join us…. And if you are her patient, you will understand why as well.

If you think this is a cute ad to get you to come see us to help you with your teeth issues, we won’t deny that.
But just because we are a dental clinic, we don’t just talk about teeth.
1 October is International Day of Older People. Today, we turn our attention to issues affecting the elderly, like senescence or elderly abuse AND say thank you for all the contributions they have made for society.
October is also Breast Awareness Month. It’s a month to remember that mammogramming your b***s is more important than instagramming them or even worrying about their size.
Early detection can save lives and if you do not have a trusted doctor to go for your mammogram, Healthway Screening Centres do provide this service.
It is true, ToothStories cares about our patients’ teeth, but that’s because ultimately, we care for the person walking into our clinic.
So for our elderly, our fighters and our survivors… we will continue to choose Hope and believe in miracles.

Chapter 2

“No matter what the future brings, I will always look at you and say God has been kind to me” he answered without a doubt.
So it’s time for us to write the next chapter and trust the magic of beginnings.

What’s in our hood?
Even though we work in a dental clinic, we do have a soft spot for sweets at times 😅
Lucky for us, just around the corner, we get our sugar fix from The Better Scoop.
Mochi waffles are nice, but here, we simply enjoy their Nian Gao waffles 😍
Their ice cream flavours like Osmanthus Oolong, Luo Han Guo, Orh Nee, Tie Guan Yin, cater to the senior citizens (which is why Dr Goh likes it 🫣).
But if you are overwhelmed with the flavours, we do think that the Sesame and their Chrysanthemum Goji Berries flavours are worth a try! 😅
And as we always say, eating everything (even sweets) in moderation, won’t harm your teeth. Once you’ve finished eating ice cream, try washing your mouth out with water to remove the sugary residue.
And if your teeth are sensitive to cold, we are just around the corner to sort that out for you 😅

Meet the Team!
We are grateful that the team is expanding and one of the dentists you might be seeing often enough is Dr Jusrina Han.
If you don’t know her yet, you might think that the most attractive thing about her is her smile, but that would just belittle her heart and how she treats her patients.
We don’t deny that Dr Han is relatively young in dentistry, yet she has learnt the skills of being gentle with her hands and careful in her work.
To her, it’s more important to make the patient feel comfortable before the start of the treatment rather than impressing them with her knowledge and skills.
It is of no surprise that the rule she lives by in her practice comes from Dalai Lama, “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”
And it is very true… compassion is often the solution to many things, especially for a young dentist 😍

What’s in our hood?
Our clinic simply LOVES this store! Tucked in a corner in Blk 262, Jing Ji Mi Fen (Economical Bee Hoon) sells literally the most pocket friendly noodles in the hood!
And we are not exaggerating… a generous portion of beehoon, one fried egg, a chicken wing, a slice of otah, a Taiwanese sausage and one squid cake ( 😅) came to a bill size of $5.80!!! 😳🫢😱
Okay.. but if you are on a diet.. having beehoon with an egg and veg is only going to set you back by $1.80 😅
A simple and no frills yet hearty meal, which we always love with our teh and kopi siu dai ( 😅), is the best way to start our day 😍.
Our dentists would like to recommend a quick gargle with water each time after drinking coffee/tea to reduce staining on your teeth! 😅

This woman is one such example. Meiyu makes the effort to remember the names of EVERY single patient who walks in, offers to hold the hand of the patient who is nervous (we get that sometimes too 😅), yet more amazingly, even when it’s outside her working hours, she will stop and chat with you if she bumps into you on the street! 😍
We simply love her to bits not because she is one responsible team player who makes sure every detail is not overlooked, but because she is who we love to be associated with… kind, honest and more importantly true. 😍
No one is perfect, but still, just like what Meiyu believes, “we consistently try to be kind, honest, caring, fair, loving, and authentic.” 😍

If there’s one thing we had learnt from Covid, is that the local small businesses don’t just build stronger economy, they build stronger community. So today, we take a break from marketing our business to highlight our neighbour’s! 😊
While we’ve only been in Serangoon Central for the past few months, we are already so amazed at what this hood can offer.
If you are a seafood lover, you will definitely love this place.
The selection of frozen seafood at Lim Yan Hwee Trading Pte Ltd is simply AH-MAZING!
Their selection of crabs, prawns (we aren’t even talking the baby ones!), fish (they even got hamachi! 🤯🤯🤯), salmon roe, shark’s fin and scallops aren’t JUST what they offer.
You can even get your crab siew mai, Chinese dumplings, dim sum, meats for your steamboat HERE 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Best thing is that the prices will not cause a hole in your pocket… unless you buy the shop as well 😅

We are not shy with our ordinary looking dental clinic because we know inside it you will possibly meet an extraordinary team.
And Jasline is one of the reasons why. She completes the task on hand quickly and independently, helps her colleagues when she is able to, shares her knowledge readily, and more importantly, she believes in building up a person rather than pulling anyone down.
But don’t be fooled.. our Jasline is no pushover. She will not agree with you if you are not right (dentist or patient 😅), neither would she limit her life because of her past.

“Worry less, smile more” is what she always says.. not because she is in dentistry but because that’s her way of encouraging the ones around her.
