With cataracts affecting more than 80% of Singaporeans aged 60 and above, our cataract clinic is here to shed light on this common condition and its treatments.
What does cataract surgery entail?
• Pre-operative assessment: Your cataract surgeon will take precise eye measurements to determine the correct intraocular lens (IOL) for you.
• Surgical preparation: Your pupil will be dilated with eyedrops, and you will be given local anaesthesia. You may also be given a sedative to stay relaxed.
• The surgery: Your cloudy eye lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear, artificial lens.
• Post-operative care: Expect mild discomfort, such as itchiness or blurry vision. These symptoms are normal as your eye begins to heal and adjust to the new lens. Your vision should start to improve within a few days.
• Follow-up visits: To ensure that your eye is healing properly, you will have follow-up appointments the day after your surgery, one week after, and about one month later.

A cataract forms when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy, causing vision impairment that glasses cannot correct. While we typically associate cataract with ageing, many other factors can also increase the risk of cataract.
If you are a high-risk individual, or are above the age of 40, contact us at 𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲 for early assessment today.
Compared to conventional cataract surgery, the laser-assisted bladeless surgery offers greater consistency and efficiency, making it the preferred option for many.
Instead of making a small incision in the cornea by hand with a blade, specially trained cataract surgeons like 𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗶 uses the 𝗙𝗗𝗔-𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗦𝘅® laser system to capture precise, hi-res images of the patient’s eyes, allowing for higher predictability of outcomes and lower risk of errors.
Should you have relatively healthy eyes that do not have conditions like specific cornea disease, glaucoma or poorly dilating pupils, you may be eligible for the bladeless alternative to conventional cataract surgery. Call 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲 for more information.
Cataract is the clouding of the lens in the eye that progressively impairs vision for as long as it remains untreated.
Early symptoms like blurred and double vision, colour changes and glare can affect your depth perception, making everyday activities like climbing stairs or driving dangerous.
Should the cataract worsen, it can impair vision to the point of legal blindness for some people, i.e. being able to see with a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in your better eye, even with prescription eyewear.
If left untreated, in the long run, total blindness can occur, especially in lens-induced glaucoma.
To avoid the development of such complications, have your eyes examined for cataract if you are above 40 or have already experienced early symptoms. Reach out to schedule a consultation today. 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
Cataract treatment revolves around replacing the cloudy natural lens of the eye (the cataract) with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to regain clear vision.
The type of IOL implant recommended depends on the patient’s condition as well as history with laser vision correction and refractive errors.
In particular, cataract surgeon 𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗶 only uses IOL implants with an aspheric design as these also correct spherical aberrations in the eye to provide clear vision.
To find out what type of IOL implant works best for your condition, reach out and schedule a consultation with Dr Leo 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
As a cataract cannot be seen with the naked eye, some patients only realise they have developed an eye condition when they begin experiencing symptoms like blurred vision.
If you are over 40 or are at risk of developing cataract due to diabetes, eye injuries, or prolonged use of medications like steroids, have your eyes examined by a cataract surgeon 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
A cataract is a cloudy part of the eye lens which prevents light from reaching the retina.
When less light reaches the retina, vision becomes blurry. Other symptoms caused by cataract include glare, double vision and colour changes.
Unless the cataract is treated through surgery, symptoms will persist and worsen over time, causing impaired vision. To consult with a cataract surgeon, reach out at 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
Globally recognised for safety and effectiveness, the cataract surgery is the only way to treat cataract.
Conventionally, the procedure is done manually: an incision is made on the cornea using a blade and the cataract is broken down using ultrasound waves from a pen-shaped probe before being suctioned out.
With the advent of new laser technology, a bladeless alternative procedure allows for more predictable outcomes through the use of precise and image-guided femtosecond laser.
𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗔𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 & 𝗣𝗮𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 offers both conventional cataract surgery and advanced bladeless cataract surgery (for eligible patients).

Cataract is a common vision-impairing condition that tends to develop in older individuals. In Singapore alone, about 30% of those aged 45 and above, 80% of those aged 60 and above, and 90% of those above 70 are affected.
However, not all cases of cataract will develop at the same rate. In some cases, some will have fully developed cataracts in their 40s while some in their 60s may still be able to go about their lives despite some symptoms.
That said, the only way to confirm the presence of a cataract is through a clinical examination administered by an ophthalmologist.
In light of 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, take time to have your eyes checked should you be above 45 years of age. Schedule an assessment at 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
The ability to address in a single setting both the cataract formed and the refractive error present can greatly minimise one's dependence on spectacles.
During cataract treatment, the cloudy natural lens in the eye is replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL) that can also treat existing refractive errors.
Issues with visual acuity are being tackled: near, intermediate and distance zones.
There is a variety of IOLs, suited for different visual and lifestyle needs. To discover which one is right for you, reach us at 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲 to schedule a consultation.
A cataract is the part of the eye's natural lens that has become cloudy, causing symptoms of glare, colour changes, and blurred and double vision.
As a condition that many of us will experience as part of the ageing process, certain common FAQs get asked, some of which include:
𝗜𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘆𝗲? As the cataract sits in the eye behind the pupil, it cannot be seen without the aid of a special microscope.
𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁? Unlike blurry sight caused by refractive errors like myopia (shortsightedness), glasses cannot rectify the blurred vision caused by cataract.
𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱? While there are ways to slow down the growth of cataract, there is currently no medical treatment to prevent the age-related condition entirely.

A cataract develops when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy and causes impaired vision.
In most cases, the clouding of the lens occurs as a result of the natural ageing process, similar to how hair naturally turns grey.
However, the formation of cataract can also occur at a younger age, should there be eye injury or other factors such as birth defects, high myopia, diabetes or prolonged use of medications like steroids.
If you often experience blurred and double vision, glare, and changes in colour perception, reach out promptly for assessment and treatment advice 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
In treating cataract, the cloudy lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
While the IOL is primarily used to replace the eye's natural lens, it can also be used to correct refractive errors at the same time, such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗶 offers intraocular lens aspheric in design that enables improved visual outcomes. To learn about the IOL most suited for you, reach out for a consultation 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
In many of us aged 60 and above, the clouding of the natural lens in the eye, known as cataract, is likely to develop.
However, as the cataract cannot be seen by the naked eye, it is not readily apparent until symptoms have begun to manifest.
Fortunately, diagnostic tests can be performed to examine our eye lens and assess our vision before the cataract worsens.
If you are over 60, and are experiencing blurred and double vision, colour changes, and glare, reach out to have your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
As one ages, the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, eventually forming a cataract that prevents clear vision.
Once a cataract has begun to form, its development can no longer be reversed; so are the symptoms—blurred vision, double vision, glare, and colour changes—until the cataract is surgically removed and replaced with a clear, artificial intraocular lens.
The progression of a cataract varies from person to person, and may even be different for each eye.
To consult with cataract surgeon, 𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗶 who has successfully performed treatment for over 5000 patients, call 𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲 today.
Cataract can develop around age 40, where the proteins in the eye's lens start to break down and clump together, forming a cloudy area on the lens.
Other than blurred vision, cataract can also cause one to see doubles, and experience glare and changes in colour perception.
Over time, cataract can have a significant impact on daily life, making everyday activities like driving or reading difficult.
If you are over 40 and have started experiencing cataract symptoms, reach out for prompt assessment and treatment 📞𝟲𝟳𝟯𝟳 𝟴𝟯𝟲𝟲
