The whole and team as well as our entire community is in shock right now at the news of the passing of Mario Chan. Mario was the visionary behind every aspect of the upcoming Sold Out Tissue Auntie the musical and it is hard to comprehend that he is no longer here to enjoy his amazing creation.

The cast have taken the decision together to continue with the shows of Tissue Auntie this weekend to honour Mario’s memory. Mario is encapsulated in every moment of this piece from his lyrics & melodies to his direction & choreography. The show is truly a celebration of his creativity and spirit and a fitting tribute to a wonderful and creative man.

Sing’theatre will be donating our proceeds from ticket sales of the performance to TOUCH, the charity Mario was raising money for through Tissue Auntie.

Here is the full statement from the cast of Tissue Auntie:

“Thank you to every one who has expressed condolences and care over Mario's passing. It's heartbreaking for all of us. It is beyond words. We are grieving in all kinds of different ways. Mario Chan brought us together, so we have each other to hold on to during this time. After gathering last night, we have decided collectively to honour Mario by showcasing this beautiful musical he's created, and to also honour his family's wishes for us to carry on.

To the audience who have tickets, we invite you to join us to witness and celebrate Mario through his work that will live on. Whether it be tears or laughter, all will be our tribute to Mario, whom our hearts dearly miss.”

Seymour Krelborn is a nerdy orphan working at Mushnik’s, a flower shop in urban Skid Row. He harbors a crush on fellow co-worker Audrey Fulquard, and is berated by Mr. Mushnik daily. One day as Seymour is seeking a new mysterious plant, he finds a very mysterious unidentified plant which he calls Audrey II. The plant seems to have a craving for blood and soon begins to sing for his supper. Soon enough, Seymour feeds Audrey’s sadistic dentist boyfriend to the plant and later, Mushnik for witnessing the death of Audrey’s ex. Will Audrey II take over the world or will Seymour and Audrey defeat it?

Closing the festival will be our second headliner show, In Pieces is a show about love and features a fantastic cast of both new upcoming singers and award-winning performers 🎉

Our love lives are constantly in pieces. Shifting in and out of feeling fully complete. But you never know how a single spark one day can unlock a new you, so we make a choice at the crossroad, we say yes to the coffee date, and wherever that leads, we learn to embrace the journey. In Pieces reflects on the romantic journeys of eight individuals, as they share, ponder and look back on the chosen paths and partners along the way. Set in New York City, there’s the scary excitement of being vulnerable and saying yes to whatever adventure is ahead. The magical first kiss. An unlikely friendship. Well-kept secrets. The monotony. The rebound. An awkward reunion on the 1 train. And the honest conversations of deserving more. All these pieces of a life that at times connect and disconnect, but once at a distance, come together to create a universal remembrance of what it’s like to be young and learning in love🧩
