Figurative art by the top young academically trained artists from Russia and beyond. Small carefully
Standing for Love and Peace 🕊️
The title of ’s sculpture 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 encapsulates the very concept of the work. The parent is leaning towards the children in an attempt to support them. Figures are shown holistically, the chosen means of expression are laconic, the volumes are clearly defined.
Even though the composition is captured in motion, the movement is calm, not overly expressive, devoid of nervous dynamism. This craving for simplified forms and geometrization of figures evident in Ilya Samarin’s work is reminiscent of the expressive means employed by the Avant-garde sculptors.

Gestural yet convincing 🗝️
's style is known for its breathtakingly free paint application that dynamically sculpts the form. The artist welcomes a certain degree of abstraction in his art and loves resolving his paintings with minimal means:
"I feel that with a higher degree of certainty come less opportunities, less possibilities for the artwork to evolve. Once the form is defined, it seems to freeze in time.
In 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗼, I was interested in capturing the character and the likeliness of the sitter with minimal means. A black hat, dark hair, expressive eyebrows, beard and mustache – all these create a sort of decorative ornament that was enough to achieve my goal.” —Yuriy comments.

Some artists are unstoppable and Nikol Klampert is one of them!
There is nothing he can't do - plein air paintings, murals, street art, theatre stage designs, quick and accurate iPad sketches and even church design!
When we asked the artist where he was getting all this energy, he said:
📌 "I haven't worked a single day in my life, because I just do what I love. These activities do not expend my energy but rather generate more of it!"

Is abstract art completely disconnected from reality?
We are opening 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 with the two landscapes by and the introductory remarks from the exhibition curator, Natali Begesh:
" We invite you to consider this Capsule Collection as a small study, a reflection on the boundaries between realism and abstraction. Together, we will look at a number of contemporary artworks in the context of the art history of the 20th century.
The artworks in Abstract Energies will be attributed to various art movements – from impressionism to contemporary art – based on formal elements and means of expression prevalent in each artwork. Together we will see whether the avant-garde / abstract tradition offers more freedom to the academically-trained artists.
There are many examples where the connection between the figuration and abstraction is absolute and continuous, as well as those where these two paradigms collide, juxtapose and complement each other."

It's wonderful to see that high-quality portraiture is always in demand. This week, we are shipping these beautiful artworks by and by to the collectors in United States and France accordingly.
A Breath of Fresh Air 🌬️
Varvara Vyborova's style is characterized by spontaneous heavily impastoed brushstrokes, reminiscent of late Claude Monet and Post-Impressionist artists. The resulting original texture is employed in the service of light and colour creating a real bounty of sensory splendour.
"My pictorial language is like a woven carpet, an allegory of how time goes by". —Varvara explains.

[CURATOR'S NOTES]
"I completed this oil study on Mardakan Beach Baku, on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The motif of water and Azerbaijani beaches is close to me. It always evokes childhood memories." - Samir Rakhmanov
Executed with extraordinary painterly fluency and spontaneity, this beach scene immediately invokes the atmosphere of a nonchalant day spent on a beach. Short staccato brushstrokes used to render the figures and the seafoam alternate with the longer and broader strokes defining the water and the sand.
The high horizon line, the glare of the light and the brilliant reflections of tanned bodies in the water evoke ’s famous beach scenes and remind us of his words: “Every time I am more enamoured of nature, so much so that between the sea and the splendid sun I think my happiest days are those on the beach”.
Freshest and iconic, this small beach scene is one of the finest examples of Samir’s maturing style.

What attracted curators in this work by is its bright decorative arrangement of flattened planes of colour reminiscent of the Japanese engravings.
If you look at the painting long enough you realize that the space surrounding the n**e female figures is more than a simple background, it is integral to the success of the composition.
The rich chromatic contrasts and the bursts of pure pigment do not upset the compositional harmony of the artwork. The artists succeeded in finding a balance between the figures and the background, between the spatial depth and the flat planes. All the elements are unified and coordinated by the harmony of colour relationships.

An excellent portraitist, Andrew Piankovski successfully connects the modern figurative trends with the tradition of the Italian Renaissance, pre-Raphaelites as well as French and Russian painters from the 19-20th centuries.
His paintings stand out for their psychological intensity, unusual croppings, dynamic and almost cinematographic compositions.

Elongated brushstrokes of ivory white and luminous emerald fuse effortlessly in Valeria Privalikhina’s painting to convey the essence of these noble flowers. Atmospheric and nonchalant, the painting bears an unmistakable touch of fin-de-siècle aesthetics.

Samir Rakhmanov's paintings exude such a light and effortless aura that it's easy to forget that they come as a result of an intense emotional and intellectual work:
"Most of the time I spend many hours, days, and even months working on one picture. Each work is a painful battle. I experience a mix of different emotions during my process. And overcoming the struggle is thrilling and inspiring."—Samir Rakhmanov

“When I started working on this painting, it was the very first time I got interested in black paint and its possibilities. At that time, I was obsessed with El Greco and his work, "A Boy Blowing on an Ember to Light a Candle", with its mystical light and composition.”— shares about this work.
Apart from El Greco, this painting was inspired by the artist’s muse Sonya who is a talented doll-maker and a puppeteer. It has a unique painterly quality, reminiscent of a soft pastel drawing executed on black paper. Eloquently laconic, there is something raw and uncensored in the model’s gaze directed toward the viewer.

_______
Academically-trained artists often look for neutral and timeless subjects similar to those they see in museums. As a result, they rarely depict symbols of modernity in their work – tattoos, smartphones, rollerblades, or bicycles. It is quite challenging to tastefully include these into the composition, making inclusion all the more valuable in this successful scene.
With assured and fluid brushwork, Yuriy Ushakov’s handling is broad and free, revealing the remarkable skill and amazing eye of an accomplished artist. As with many of Yuriy’s works, one can observe traces of the initial drawing and the underpainting layer which he often leaves untouched to create the feeling of freshness and immediacy.
