Recently, the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) delegation met with ICAEW to discuss crucial updates in ethics strategy, emphasizing the commitment to uphold integrity and transparency in the accounting profession worldwide. ICAEW had the pleasure of co-hosting the "Decoding CBDCs: Unveiling the Future of Digital Money" conference in Jakarta on May 14th, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Indonesia and the Indonesia Institute of Chartered Accountants (IAI), and with support from SW Indonesia.

The event began with insightful remarks from Elaine Hong, ICAEW Director, China and South East Asia, and the IAI President. With over 150 prominent attendees from Indonesia’s leading banks, accounting firms, universities, and state-owned enterprises, the conference provided a comprehensive platform to discuss the future of digital currencies and project Garuda, Indonesia’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiative.

The conference featured valuable insights from industry experts, including two ICAEW members who are experts in blockchain and digital assets: Peter Brewin FCA, Partner at PwC Hong Kong, who elaborated on the opportunities and risks associated with CBDC, and Nikhil Joshi FCA, COO of Emurgo, who addressed the transformative potential of digital assets within the finance profession.
