Best cars with low CO2 emissions: the not-so dirty dozen 28/10/2020

Choosing a more climate-friendly and low-emissions vehicle is one important way individuals can reduce their carbon footprint, and can help contribute to reducing our earth's total greenhouse gas emissions.

Manufacturing a car creates as much carbon as driving it 28/10/2020

What's the carbon footprint of ... a new car?
A decade ago, making a new car creates as much carbon pollution as driving it, so it's often better to keep your old banger on the road than to upgrade to a greener model. Still the same?

Japan PM sets 2050 deadline for carbon neutrality 27/10/2020

Carbon neutrality means having a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere in carbon sinks. Removing carbon oxide from the atmosphere and then storing it is known as carbon sequestration. In order to achieve net zero emissions, all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions will have to be counterbalanced by carbon sequestration.

And Japan sets a deadline to be the world’s third-largest economy to become carbon neutral, significantly firming up the country’s climate change commitments by 2050.

Electric car emissions myth 'busted' 26/10/2020

Electric car emissions myth 'busted' Fears that electric cars could actually increase carbon emissions are a baseless, a study suggests.

Have you ever thought that what is the simple step should we make to help to reduce carbon footprint?

Here are 3 simple keys:
First, when possible, walk or ride your bike in order to avoid carbon emissions completely. Carpooling and public transportation drastically reduce CO2 emissions by spreading them out over many riders.
Second, to drive low carbon vehicle. High mileage doesn’t always mean low CO2 emissions. All vehicles have an estimated miles-per-gallon rating. Electric cars emit no CO2 if they’re charged with clean electricity.
Lastly, your driving style. How so? Speeding and unnecessary acceleration reduce mileage by up to 33%, waste gas and money, and increase your carbon emissions.

Ultra low emission vehicle (ULEV) is the term used to describe any vehicle that uses low carbon technologies and emits less than 75g of CO2/km from the tailpipe.

ULEVs range from pure electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles, to plug-in hybrids and extended range electric vehicles. These are also the thresholds for the government’s consumer incentive scheme, the Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG).

Most ULEVs on the road today use alternative fuels such as electricity and hydrogen to drive an electric motor, with batteries commonly used as an energy storage device. In most instances these batteries are charged by being plugged into a dedicated chargepoint or directly into the mains, whereas hydrogen vehicles can be refuelled at specific refuelling stations in a similar way to refuelling a petrol or diesel vehicle.
