Established since 2005, our studio believes that quality spaces are translated through good interpretation of the users’ needs and narratives. We strive to understand our client’s stories and visually craft them into narratives that are of good design, usability and aesthetics. From the fine grains of the dark walnut laminate to the marble-like veins on the countertops, a luxurious yet cozy atmosphere is accentuated in this house when textures are juxtaposed against the muted, pale walls and floors, making it an ideal environment for hosting dinners or simply a comfy retreat after a long day of work.

The combination of wood and stone textures continues as a theme throughout the house for continuity while adding a touch of warmth and sophistication to the overall mood. In the Master Bedroom, the corner of the cabinet is designed to be curved with fluted panels to soften the aesthetics while adding layers of details and interest.

From the two-stories configuration to the arched columns, keeping the aesthetical and structural integrity of the house intact became a key decision made right from the beginning as the owners found themselves enchanted by the black-and-white, colonial aesthetics of the house.

Despite the opportunities for rebuilding vertically, retaining the two-stories configuration allowed us to segment the layout by keeping the social and private spaces to the 1st and 2nd storey respectively.

A simpler layout with lesser rooms encouraged more family bonding in the common spaces. In this very case, less is more.

Aesthetically, having a monochromatic and rustic color palette – from the dark-stained parquet floor to the white brick veneer walls – allows further accentuation of the black-and-white characteristics of the house.

At first glance: the grey, slated front of the house presents itself as a private dwelling. Upon entering, the façade wears off as you are greeted by a spacious and hospitable foyer, living and dining area.

The 1st storey and basement are designed for social functions – setting up a convivial atmosphere for gatherings and entertainment. The upper stories are catered to private functions – where the occupants get to unwind and enjoy some form of solitude.

Dressed in a light palette, complimented with shades of maple, the interior of the space is crafted to present a delicate, airy yet welcoming living and hosting environment.

A homely vibe with an understated sophistication, the interior of this house was designed through the interplay of lighting, layering, colors and materials. In the ground floor, the dark walnut wood paneling is complemented by beige, neutral colors that dials down the heaviness while emphasizing on the warmth that wood introduces.

The carpentry units are layered and space-planned as individual blocks, further spotlighted by the deliberate use of lighting. Like curations in an art gallery, each unit is distinct but the general mood of the space, still cohesive as a whole.

The playroom was designed with functionality in mind so that it adapts to the needs of the users as they grow up. In the long run, the spaciousness of the room allows opportunities for further expansion. For now, the bottom storage units of the display cabinets are designed to allow easy access for lower ages while doubling up as storage units for outdoor leisure activities.

Through the interplay of strong, earthy tones and soft, neutral wall features, a cohesive balance is established in this house in overall materiality and color – Grounded yet sophisticated in a modest fashion.

Coated in neutral tones with a mimicry of marble vein-like brushstrokes, the special effects paint brings a sense of tranquility into the space while acting as a statement piece in the airwell, to be appreciated at every storey.

While the high ceiling is a given feature in this house, the luxury of space is further accentuated by the open concept design in the Living, Dining and Kitchen. The kitchen is further encapsulated by an overhead feature panel with wood-grains running in a diagonal manner to make the space a statement piece on its own.

Nestled among lush greenery, the house was designed with the intent to bolster the quality time spent with family and friends.

The Dining and Dry Kitchen space anchors the common entrance into the house. The space utilizes an open concept approach to help facilitate large gatherings while emphasizing the luxury of space in both length and height.

Warm wood tones further extend into the Wet Kitchen, complemented by playful touches of sky blue cabinets and distinctive textured wall tiles to breathe character and whim into the space.

Situated in the center of the house, the airwell serves to invite nature back within the house through the interplay of greenery and natural light.

In the Master Bedroom, comfort is retained through the continuity of warm wood veneer and the introduction of soft fabric wall textures. The fabric acoustic panels are also designed with functionality in mind as selected pieces are detachable to house acoustic devices to further enhance the couple’s mini-theatre experience.

Outdoor fine dining experience is brought closer to home in this reimagined alfresco area – an exquisite and inviting space for celebratory occasions.

A grounded color palette, complemented by the earthly textures of marble, creates a classy and elegant environment. Reminiscent of checkered patterns, the introduction of Mutina floor tiles further accentuates the timelessness of the refurbished space.
