Grooveworks - The Wednesday Band - Suraya (Lyons) From the recent final performances in The Jazz Loft to complete the 2nd 10-week session of 2023, the Wednesday Band perform Greg Lyons’ Suraya. Azriel Seah on drums, Victor Lum on bass, Antoine Michel on piano, Justin Tay on guitar, Greg Lyons (mentor) on tenor saxophone. Grooveworks is a jazz performance mentoring program run in Singapore by British jazz artist/composer Greg Lyons. The Festival occurs at the end of each 10-week session, and features all current ensembles in the program as a final performance. Live sound by Hawk Chen Cymbals by Pantheon Percussion. Sunday, 6 August GROOVEWORKS Festival @ The Jazz Loft The Grooveworks jazz performance mentorship program features 5 bands on stage for their final performance of session 2 2023 Grooveworks is the jazz performance mentorship program run by British jazz artist Greg Lyons in Singapore. At the end of each 10-week session they have a massive get-together, where all current bands in the program, play for each other - and a collection of friends, family, alumni and fans. The show will start with the Junior bands at 7.00pm and then feature short sets by all ensembles to finish with the showcase Tuesday Band. The 3rd 10-week session for 2023 in Singapore of the ground-breaking jazz performance mentorship program, led by British jazz artist and composer Greg Lyons, kicks off on the 28th of August.With 6 concurrent ensembles ranging from absolute beginners studying the tonal language, to pro-level players working on up-to-the-minute modern musical structures, this course has a place for all levels of musician.The bottom line is that the music, the moment, and interaction with the other musicians will be our cauldron for development, all under the guidance of one of the most experienced, globally traveled, and unique musical minds.The course is open to all instruments and voice, with places being limited to creating effective ensembles. More details on the website www.grooveworks.sgThe main program meets once a week on weekday evenings for 3 hour sessions, building a unique contemporary repertoire in each band, designed to optimise the growth/assimilation process, and deliver a performing unit to the final performance at the end of the 10 weeks.The Junior program (all ages!) meets for 2 hours once a week, and works on standard jazz repertoire, optimised for development of coherent language and interaction skills. Though this is entirely process-driven, the option to be part of the final performance is often chosen by the Junior bands.The course is conducted in our studio in Chinatown, and runs from Monday 28th August through to the final performance at The Jazz Loft on 12th November 2023.Course fee for the main program is $900SGD and for the Junior program, $700SGD.Get in touch now for details: www.grooveworks.sg
