Registration is now open for the first 10-week session for 2024 in Singapore of the ground-breaking jazz performance mentorship program, led by British multi-instrumentalist/composer Greg Lyons.
With 6 concurrent ensembles ranging from absolute beginners studying the tonal language, to pro-level players working on up-to-the-minute modern musical structures, this course has a place for all comers who want to develop their instrumental/vocal/musical concept and delivery.
The bottom line is that the music, the moment, and interaction the other musicians will be our forum for development, all under the guidance of one of the most experienced, globally traveled, and unique musical minds.
The course is open to all instruments and voice, with places being limited to creating effective ensembles. More details on the website www.grooveworks.sg
The main program meets once a week on weekday evenings for 3 hour sessions, building a unique contemporary repertoire in each band, designed to optimise the growth/assimilation process, and deliver a performing unit to the final performance at the end of the 10 weeks.
The Junior program (all ages!) meets for 2 hours once a week, and works on assimilating the core rhythmic language, and standard jazz repertoire, optimised for development of coherent interaction skills. Though this is entirely process-driven, the option to be part of the final performance is often chosen by the Junior bands.
The course is conducted in our studio in Chinatown, and runs from Monday 15th January through to the final performance at The Jazz Loft on 7th April 2024.
Course fee for the main program is $900SGD and for the Junior program, $700SGD.

Grooveworks mission is to provide a serious growth opportunity for the budding jazz stars of Southeast Asia.
We create a workshop environment for the focused study of jazz performance. The groups that make up the main program are structured as performing units, developing a set of repertoire towards the final performances at the end of the 10-week cycle, which we share on our YouTube channel and other social media platforms.
Our media output provides an opportunity then for an audience to witness the actual process of development featuring many of the new crop of jazz performers currently in the region.
Course fees are SGD$900 for the main program, and $700 for the "junior" program.

Now exactly a month out from the start of the next 10-week session, we are pretty much complete, apart from the crucial replacement for the bass chair in our top pro-level ensemble, as we lose one of our longest serving Grooveworkers, Fabian Lee, who has been a foundation to so much of the really challenging stuff we've been able to work on over the past 5 years. A hard seat to fill for sure! Any takers out there? Get in touch soon!
We also have a couple more slots for horns or voice etc, and possibly one junior bassist too!
