Finished this portrait some time ago of a friend who so kindly let me practice on her picture 🍁 Look at how cool she is!

A fun fact I learnt during one of the classes I attended -

Ultramarine blue used to be worth more than gold because it was derived from the lapis lazuli stone and was expensive to produce.

It was a colour revered by many artists in the past and one extreme story is of Johannes Vermeer (artist of Girl with a Pearl Earring) who drove his family into debt because of his frequent use of the colour 😭

It was winter when I visited this place and it felt so good to be able to enjoy the sunlight and hike up all those steps without breaking a sweat 🥹

While we were working on this, our instructor said this, amongst other things, and it kinda stuck with me✨

If you've climbed this mountain, your experience of it will influence the way you paint it, and the end result may look different from what you've done today.

Life has been quiet and simple. Simple and boring. Working 5 days a week has me bored and lazy 🫠 But simple is good. I’m starting to think boring is good too, because it means there is space to fill with more of life’s little pleasures like painting 🤭

Painting this proved to be more challenging than I first expected when I saw the unassuming photo reference 🤭 Took on the additional challenge of leaving in those ~painterly~ brushstrokes and I'm glad I did! 🥰

I think this is saying "come and roam my streets in the cool evening and I'll wrap you in the warmth of my golden glow" 🌆 My sister showed me a photo of one of her travels and I just knew it would look great as an , so this is me painting on a 24" x 18"!
