★ ✰ “I Lost Everything Within an Hour” – Man Loses 14 Pet Dogs in Penang House Fire ✰ ★

In a devastating tragedy on 18 September 2024, a house fire in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, Malaysia, claimed the lives of 14 beloved pet dogs and destroyed the family home.

Maheswaran Muthiah, the homeowner, shared his harrowing experience on TikTok, as well as the emotional and financial devastation that followed.

☆ An Unexpected Tragedy ☆

According to comments on his TikTok post, the fire broke out while he and his family were out for dinner, leaving no one present to rescue the pets.

The blaze spread rapidly, trapping his “furrykids” inside. When asked by one of the netizens if they were in a cage, he denied it and said they were not in cages.

He expressed frustration at neighbours who, despite being warned by firefighters to stay away due to the risk of explosions, did not intervene. Tragically, the flames engulfed the house within an hour, reducing it to ashes.

Maheswaran suspects the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit or faulty wiring, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

In addition to losing his pets, he estimated that over RM20,000 (approximately 6,146.02 SGD) worth of personal items, including business equipment and gadgets, were lost in the fire.

☆ The Pain of Losing More Than Material Possessions ☆

The fire hit him hard financially, wiping out years of important belongings like equipment and business supplies.

However, Maheswaran emphasizes that the emotional pain of losing his pets far surpasses any material loss. He described them as his “precious children.”

Many netizens echoed Maheswaran’s grief, offering condolences and empathy in the comments. They pointed out that while material possessions can be replaced, the emotional void left by beloved pets is irreplaceable.

In response to his viral TikTok post, many people offered support and asked how they could help.

He expressed gratitude for their kindness and indicated that he is now focused on recovering and finding a new place to live, promising to update followers if assistance is needed.

☆ Moving Forward After the Tragedy ☆

Rebuilding his life will take time, but he is committed to moving forward. He understands that reconstructing his home and business is important, especially for his son, who has also faced significant losses.

Despite the overwhelming grief, he remains strong, focusing on the future while still mourning his beloved pets. ❣

"Perna mussels (also called “green-lipped mussel” [GLM]) are a natural alternative to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in dogs and work their magic through similar actions in the body.

• Dose: 150 mg per ten pounds (4.5 kg) of body weight daily, divided in meals.

According to board-certified veterinary nutritionist Dr. Donna Raditic, the anti-inflammatory effects of EPA and DHA in dogs with various diseases — including kidney disease, cardiovascular disorders, osteoarthritis, atopy (skin conditions), and inflammatory bowel disease — have been evaluated, and the dose ranges from 50 to 220 mg/kg (23–100mg/lb) of body weight.

The highest dose is recommended for osteoarthritis in dogs not otherwise being supplemented (not getting additional omegas in commercial dog food).

If your dog is not eating any other sources of omega-3s (like sardines), consider a maintenance dose of 75 mg per kg (34 mg/lb) of body weight for healthy animals.

These doses are based on adding the milligrams of EPA and DHA per supplement capsule or millilitres of liquid.

We recommend storing omega-3s in the refrigerator once opened; aim to use up your supply within thirty days, or buy capsules and hide them in a meatball. (Or puncture capsule and squeeze into food) ❣

★ ✰ Rescued 17kg Chonky Cat Attempts To Escape Diet Centre & Gets Stuck In Shoe Rack ✰ ★

Remember Crumbs?

The 17kg feline previously made headlines after he was rescued — in an exceptionally chonky state — from a Russian hospital.

He had been fed a diet of crackers and soup by well-meaning hospital staff, and was so weighed down by his own heft that he was unable to walk. Vets were also unable to do an ultrasound on him because the sensors could not get past the layers of fat.

In an attempt to restore him to a healthier weight of about 4.5kg, Crumbs was whisked away to a shelter and put on a special diet and exercise regimen. This included hydrotherapy and kinesiotherapy, in which he had to walk on an aquatic treadmill.

He also had his tummy shaved, to make him easier to dry after his aquatic aerobics sessions.

While the diet appeared to have been working — a recent Instagram update revealed that he'd gotten his weight down to 15.4kg — the new lifestyle apparently didn't sit quite well with him.

☆ Tried To Escape ☆

On Sep. 11, Crumbs launched a daring escape attempt from the centre. But this failed when he ended up wedged into a shoe rack, with his face stuffed into a pair of blue slippers.

"Kroshik [his Russian name] caused a ruckus and escaped today," said rehabilitation expert Ekaterina Bedakova, according to the New York Post.

"He was extremely displeased when we found him disguised as slippers, but... after a portion of food, he mellowed out."

Despite his apparent unhappiness with the his diet, experts appeared optimistic about Crumbs's progress.

"He's already a very active guy," Bedakova remarked, according to The Sun. ❣

★ ✰ M'sian Man Caught Smuggling 6 Kittens Into S'pore In Modified Car Dashboard, Jailed ✰ ★

After taking up a job to smuggle six kittens into Singapore, a Malaysian man was stopped for a spot check at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers caught Law Wei Bin, 29, red-handed with the animals stuffed in a modified dashboard compartment of his car.

☆ Smuggled Animals Into Singapore 6 Times ☆

Court documents indicated that Law started smuggling animals into Singapore from April 2024.

Earlier in March 2024, Law had asked his friend "Ah Wei" over WeChat about a job to smuggle animals into Singapore. Ah Wei told Law he would make the necessary arrangements.

A few days later, an unknown Chinese man contacted Law and asked him to have his car modified at a workshop in Johor Bahru. Law paid about RM2,000 (S$602.25) for the modifications, which took about two weeks.

When there were deliveries to be made, the same man would contact Law at about 10am and tell him to pick the animals up at about 8pm to 9pm the same day, at a specified location in Johor Bahru.

The man would then pass Law the animals to be stored in his modified dashboard compartment, and tell him the delivery address in Singapore. Law was paid RM500 (S$150.50) for each successful delivery, to his bank account in Malaysia.

He admitted that he successfully smuggled between 10 to 30 animals into Singapore on six occasions from April 2024 onwards.

☆ Caught ☆

However, things did not go to plan for Law's last attempt on Jun. 6, 2024.

After collecting the six kittens and driving to Woodlands checkpoint, Law was stopped there at 8:20pm by an ICA officer doing a routine check. Officers then found the modified compartment in Law's car.

Officers also recovered the six kittens ensconced inside and sent them to AVS Animal Quarantine Centre (AQC) for microchipping, physical examination and quarantine.

☆ Cramped, Poorly Ventilated And Unsanitary Conditions: Doctor ☆

Based on the examination of the kittens at AQC, a doctor assessed in a report that two of them had been transported in cramped conditions that were "unsuitable" and "would have caused unnecessary suffering".

"The animals would have experienced significant discomfort because of restricted movement, inability to adopt natural positions, as well as being jostled by the movement of the other animals," the doctor explained.

The doctor also noted that as the compartment would have been poorly ventilated as it was visibly concealed on all sides, which coupled with unsanitary conditions, would have facilitated the spread of viruses.

All of the kittens tested positive for feline parvovirus (FPV), which are highly contagious viruses that can be transmitted via faecal-oral contact, can cause gastrointestinal disease, and could be fatal.

☆ Had Been Trying To Make Money For Wedding: Defence ☆

Law pleaded guilty to four charges under the Animals and Birds Act, on Sep. 13. Eight other charges were taken into consideration for his sentencing.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the prosecution asked for a sentence of 28 weeks to 34 weeks' jail for Law.

The prosecution pointed out that Law had smuggled animals five times before his arrest, bringing in two to six animals each time, and actively accepted such work in order to make money.

In mitigation, Law's defence lawyer said Law was a first-time offender and that he regretted his actions.

The lawyer added that Law had been trying to make money in preparation for his wedding. The judge sentenced Law to 18 weeks' jail on Sep. 13. ❣
