Failure is a Stepping Stone to Success - Successpedia Asia Failure is a stepping stone to success. Growing up, a lot of people have associated failure with negativity.
Move forward no matter what happened in the past. Work harder, strive to be better and live life to the fullest.
The Secret to Success
Once a young man asked the wise man, Socrates, the secret to success. Socrates patiently listened to the man’s question and told him to meet him near the river the next morning for the answer. The next morning Socrates asked the young man to walk with him towards the river. As they went in the river the water got up to their neck. But to the young man’s surprise, Socrates ducked him into the water.
The young man struggled to get out of the water, but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled the man’s head out of the water. The young man gasps and took a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, ‘What did you want the most when your head was in the water?” The young man replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air while you were in the water, then you will get it. There is no other secret.”
Moral: A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishments. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.
Always set a target or goal in your life. As long as you have a goal to pursue, you will eventually hit something rather than nothing.
“It is impossible for dark clouds to be looming forever in your life. One day, you’ll find your life filled with rainbows” - 王雷 (Wang Lei), 卖鱼哥
Being known widely through newspapers & media outlets, only a few people know the other side of Wang Lei. From being a singer to a host, then an actor, he had to put a halt to his career due to the pandemic. Having zero income from the start of February 2020, he had to make a transition to something he had never done before, making a name for himself through Live Streaming, selling different types of products for his clients.
During Wang Lei’s darkest days, he was heavily in debt with loan sharks, affecting the lives of his family members as well as his own. Gambling all his earnings from acting in “My Papa Rich” movie, he was on the verge of taking his own life when he received a call from his wife which made him reflect on his actions. Clearing all of his debts in 2017, the pandemic outbreak dealt him with a new wave of challenges and disrupted his happy & carefree days. However, he stood back up on his feet and pushed on as 卖鱼哥.
As Wang Lei said, setbacks only last for a period of time, and beautiful days lie ahead once you have overcome the setbacks. One will be faced with setbacks and obstacles in their life, but as long as you have the determination to overcome them, you will be faced with happier days.
Once, a farmer has three grown-up sons. They always quarreled among themselves. Their father advised them to live in peace but it had no effect on them. One day, the farmer fell seriously ill. He sent for his sons to collect a handful of sticks. The farmer then tied these sticks into a bundle.
He asked each of his sons to break the bundle. They tried with all their might to break it but none of them could. At last, the farmer untied the bundle and asked each of them to break each stick. They did so with ease. Their father said, “Sons, you could not break the sticks as long as they remained tied in a bundle but you managed to break a single stick. The sticks were strong in a bundle but became weak when separated.” This had a deep effect on the farmer’s sons. They gave up quarreling and began to live in peace.
Moral: Never forget that, united we stand and divided we fall.
“Sometimes we give up easily on the things that we do, but once you understand the word ‘Perseverance’, you wouldn’t give up” - 植锦堂 (Zhi Jin Tang), Founder of 狮城劲勇龙狮院.
Looking back at this video with Eddie CHiek, he speaks about seeing things through till the end & not giving up halfway. Lion Dance Troupes are evolving with the times, and seeing the culture being pursued for the money instead of the love and passion for it, there are only a few interested parties willing to carry forward this traditional performance as many refuse to learn this trade. However, he still pushes forward with his dream of guiding and teaching the youths to have a genuine passion for both Dragon and Lion Dance so that they will carry on the culture of this Chinese Tradition.
Being able to persevere through all the hardships and delays that holds you back from achieving your goal(s) is definitely one of the key factors to success. For all the hard work that we’ve put in, we will see the harvest at the end of the journey.
There’s an old riddle that says five frogs are sitting on a lily pad. One decides to jump off. How many are left?
If your answer is “four”, thank your math teacher for your excellent maths skills. Unfortunately, this is not a test of your math abilities.
It’s a life problem.
The correct answer is “five”. Yes, all five are still sitting there on the lily pad. The one frog only decided to jump but hasn’t. Life is not a spectator sport; it’s indeed a contact sport. and there are no practice sessions, and you’ve been in the game from day one.
As cliche as it seems ‘The journey starts with a single step’ — not by thinking about taking that step.
Moral: Be the frog that not only decides to jump off the lily pad but actually does it.
