📌 Tricky situation in which visa to activate in SG 📌
I am in 7th month of pregnancy and got laid off from my job with redundancy paid.
So my EP will be cancelled by NOV end and a 90 day short term visa will be issued.
I have applied for PEP and it’s approved with IPA valid till April2025.
I am due to deliver the baby by jan/feb 2025.. so intend to have a maternity leave / not be employed at least for 5-6 mths due to recovery and baby care.
My questions are
What are my options to maximise my without job period to focus on baby in this situation ?
1. Can I be in Singapore with approved IPA letter till April 2025 and then activate PEP only in April and be jobless for 6months ? ( as PEP allows job gap of 6mths)
When they review my case in 2026 Jan. Would they expect me to have a earning of /salary of 200k in 3 mths ( assuming I start the work in October 2025 and income prorated from April25)
2. Is there a way I can request MOM to review my case as gap from April-oct is due to pregnancy related ? and hence to be lenient with the .....

📌 Re: Don't let your overseas drivers license expire! 📌
Part of it is letting your overseas driver’s license expire, yeah, it’s a real hassle. I get the frustration because life intervenes and suddenly you’re juggling all these rules and regulations but I get it. Malcontent’s story is a good reminder of how important it is to keep things like your address and license current if you're doing a big move or return. He had that U.S. number and credit score really, and they are little things like that that really make all the difference.

📌 Re: LTVP application - tax document for NR 📌
Depends on why you only have a year of tax assessment.
If you’ve only started working for a year then just go ahead and submit one year of tax assessment with another page stating you just started working in Year 20XX.
For other reasons, you’ll need to elaborate. Can’t give any advice if you withhold information.

📌 Re: PR and SC is not the reality for most expats here at MBFC 📌
It's kind of funny when one looks back at all of the rants and dire predictions about changing EP levels, etc. While what we see today has probably been shaped by external factors (at least partially), the reality is some people were displaced and others moved in.
It is really no different from the big US cities (or other tier 1 cities around the globe). If you are not in a high paying industry / extremely skilled at what you do, costs will always seem high. It's even worse if you get complacent or your career stagnates along the way (for some other reason); while you stand still someone else passes you by. Yet, in all places many people pay 100k or more in school fees for their children. The only question is whether one makes enough to afford it.
I think if you look at many expat or immigration destinations, the story is the same. Open borders and free movement of capital mean most places are expensive for a typical graduate/professional (even above average ones). But the .....

📌 Re: Don't let your overseas drivers license expire! 📌
❰❰ Quote:
You say you "can only hold a drivers license in the state he/she is legally resident". So you renew your drivers licence to an address that is not technically your residence (i.e. renew in Australia but actually live in Singapore)?
❱❱
Yes… it’s complicated.
Legal residence refers to a person's true, fixed, principal, and permanent home, to which that person intends to return and remain even though currently residing elsewhere. Most countries like the U.S. assume that you’ll eventually return from abroad. Voter registration, even while overseas, requires you to have a legal address in the U.S. even if you don’t. They will tell you to use your last known address in the U.S. (good luck to anyone who never lived there).
Many rules and regulations do not properly consider situations where their citizenry live abroad. For example, the U.S. often has exceptions for military posted abroad, but everyone .....

OK you are quite confusing with the sequence so far. But I get it now. Probably should be OK because you have not yet renounced your citizenship.

Looking for some help / guidance here.
We have just received the letter (on 31st Oct) for oath to be taken on 21st Nov.
For the Indian passport holders, BLS website https://www.blsinternational.com/india/singapore/cancelcitizenship.php
shows two forms to be completed for renunciation:
Two forms are:
https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce
https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in
I have filled the first form with all details needed, and struggling to complete first step of second form. It had a field called "Foreign Nationality Acquisition Date (DD/MM/YYYY)*". I thought it would be 21st Nov, but that throws an error: Foreign Nationality Acquisition Date cannot be after the current date.
Does it mean .....

📌 Re: Affordable International School 📌
No foreigner should move to Singapore with 3 school aged children unless:
A. The employer is paying for their school
B. The family is wealthy (money ain’t a thang)
There is no such thing as an affordable international school here… even the less expensive ones have gone up substantially, and continue to do so, year after year.
Local schools, which are now roughly half the cost of international schools, also quickly become unaffordable for larger families, if they can even access them.

📌 Re: NAN Optipro or Dumex Dugro? 📌
This only directed at mommies, but I'm not a mommy...
I don't think either of these are "better". Each child is different. What I've experienced with myself and my friends is that you just choose one and then hope that your child doesn't get a reaction... Sometimes the child is allergic to cow's milk so you will need a different brand. And sometimes they get colic ... it all depends on the child.
I've used Nan mainly but really they're all much of a muchness.
