Joint Exercise @ Singapore Flyer
[Joint Exercise @ Singapore Flyer] Last Wednesday (24 Jul), officers from SCDF’s elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART), together with the Singapore Flyer Team, conducted a joint exercise at the Singapore Flyer. The exercise simulated the rescue of two persons stranded in two separate capsules at the Singapore Flyer. As part of the exercise, SCDF’s High-Level Articulated fire and rescue vehicle, which can reach a height of 90-metres (30 storeys high), was also deployed. The exercise was a good opportunity to practise the joint coordination between SCDF and the Singapore Flyer’s Company Emergency Response Team in responding to this complex height rescue scenario. Check out the video highlights of the exercise!

The TPS is scheduled to be fully operational by end of 2026..

[Update 1: Industrial Fire @ 3, Toa Payoh Industrial Park] At about 9:40pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location. SCDF is at the scene conducting the firefighting operation. The fire, measuring about four basketball courts, involves two units. The first unit is a car workshop and the second unit is an industrial workshop. SCDF firefighters are at work with six water jets and an Unmanned Firefighting Machine. The fire is contained to the two units.

Electric Vehicle Fire Test
[Electric Vehicle Fire Test] Last month, the SCDF and HTXSG jointly conducted an Electric Vehicle (EV) fire test at the Home Team Tactical Centre. The fire test served to validate SCDF’s firefighting procedures during an EV fire, as well as evaluated the effectiveness of the firefighting equipment used for such incidents. As part of the fire test, an EV was intentionally set on fire and allowed to burn until thermal runaway [the uncontrollable self-heating of the EV battery] occurred. First signs of thermal runaway were observed in about 10 minutes, with popping sounds from the battery. The fire fully engulfed the EV about 2 minutes later and reached a temperature of up to 600°C. As a first course of action, a vehicle fire blanket* was draped over the EV. Able to withstand temperatures up to 1,600°C, the fire blanket can isolate the fire and contain the spread of smoke. This improved the visibility, allowing firefighters to safely approach the vehicle. Water jets were then used to cool the EV and bring the temperature down to about 300°C within 3 minutes. Following that, firefighters used a specialised equipment to penetrate the EV’s undercarriage battery housing with a metal spike and inject water directly into the burning EV battery. The fire was effectively extinguished within two minutes, with the temperature at the hottest spot of the EV falling below 150°C. By the end of the test, when the temperature had fallen below 100°C, the firefighters removed the fire blanket and commenced the damping down operation (application of water to wet burnt surfaces after a fire is put out, to prevent it from rekindling). The fire test validated SCDF’s EV firefighting procedure and equipment used. As part of the fire test, HTX had also collected air samples in the vicinity of the burning EV for further lab
