[Fire @ Block 612, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4]

Earlier this morning at 1:55am, SCDF was alerted to the fire at the abovementioned location.

Firefighters from Ang Mo Kio Fire Station, supported by Bishan Fire Station, entered the smoke-filled unit on the 11th floor to fight the fire.

The fire, which involved a bedroom, was extinguished with a water jet. As a result of the fire, the rest of the unit sustained heat and soot damage.

5 persons from the affected unit had evacuated prior to SCDF’s arrival. SCDF conveyed two persons to Singapore General Hospital and two persons to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for smoke inhalation. Another person declined to be sent to hospital.

About 30 residents from the block were evacuated by the Police and SCDF as a precautionary measure.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of the fire is of electrical origin, likely from an electrical socket in the bedroom.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

SCDF would like to remind the public on good practices to prevent electrical fires from occurring:

a) Do not overload electrical sockets with electrical appliances;

b) Switch off electrical appliances when not in use;

c) Check for frayed wires or cracked cords. If observed, the electrical appliance should be repaired or replaced. Do not use faulty appliances;

d) Do not run wires under carpets or mats and keep wires away from hot surfaces;

e) Use appliances and electrical plugs bearing the Safety Mark. The categories of appliances can be found at http://www.consumerproductsafety.gov.sg

[Joint Exercise @ Singapore Flyer]

Last Wednesday (24 Jul), officers from SCDF’s elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART), together with the Singapore Flyer Team, conducted a joint exercise at the Singapore Flyer.

The exercise simulated the rescue of two persons stranded in two separate capsules at the Singapore Flyer. As part of the exercise, SCDF’s High-Level Articulated fire and rescue vehicle, which can reach a height of 90-metres (30 storeys high), was also deployed.

The exercise was a good opportunity to practise the joint coordination between SCDF and the Singapore Flyer’s Company Emergency Response Team in responding to this complex height rescue scenario.

Check out the video highlights of the exercise!

[Fire @ 37, Lor 20 Geylang; three persons rescued]

Earlier this morning at 3:30am, firefighters from Kallang Fire Station, Paya Lebar Fire Station, and Central Fire Station responded to a fire at the abovementioned location.

Upon arrival, the fire was raging inside a unit on the fifth floor. Two persons were seen standing precariously on the window ledge of the affected unit and shouting for help.

SCDF firefighters immediately deployed a Combined Platform Ladder and rescued the two persons.

While fighting the fire inside the unit, firefighters found another person in one of the bedrooms and brought the person out to safety. The fire, which involved the living room, was extinguished using a water jet. As a result of the fire, the rest of the unit sustained heat and smoke damage.

Two persons were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and the other person was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

During the firefighting operation, a firefighter sustained a minor injury when a piece of false ceiling landed on his neck and shoulder area. He was assessed by a paramedic and conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: The firefighter was discharged from the hospital on 30 July and is resting at home. SCDF will continue to check on his well-being.

Upon arrival, a section of solar panels (measuring about 15 metres by 10 metres) mounted on the zinc roof of a single-storey factory was on fire.

76 staff had evacuated the premises before SCDF's arrival.

There were no reported injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire is likely to be of electrical origin from the solar panels.

[Download the new myResponder app now!]

An upgraded version of the myResponder app was launched earlier this week at the SCDF Workplan 2024.

The myResponder mobile app was first launched in 2015 and enables registered community first responders (CFRs) to locate nearby automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and respond to suspected cardiac arrest incidents before SCDF's arrival.

Jointly developed by SCDF and HTXSG, the upgraded app will allow users to see the location of other responding CFRs, and being able to choose their mode of response (by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle), allowing the app to adjust the alert it sends out according to the mode of travel.

More functions such as a chat function between CFRs to coordinate their responses, as well as a video-call function with SCDF's Operations Centre will be rolled out by 2025.

The current version of myResponder will cease operations by end August 2024. Existing registered users will need to download the new myResponder app.

Since the launch of the first myResponder mobile app, at least 76 cardiac arrest victims have been saved by CFRs who were alerted through the app. Download the new myResponder app and be part of today!
