In December 2023, we visited the MCSPA formation house in Manila to produce a mini-documentary on lives of the aspirants and seminarians as they undergo their formation in preparation for missionary work in Africa.

What we witnessed was a community deeply committed to an holistic approach to their charism, living out their theological formation in a most practical way, through the service of the poor and marginalised in their neighbourhood.

From organising tuition classes for needy children to pastoral and material support for families, their days are packed to the brim with work, prayer and service.

Since 2014, we've travelled to, and produced numerous stories for their various missions around the world (Kenya, South Sudan, Malawi, Ethiopia) but the MCSPA Manila story is a one where we encounter the school theology, faith and life, from which these young missionaries would receive the foundations needed to bravely put out into the deep.

These historic statues of St Joseph’s Church - Victoria Street were given a new lease of life by Portuguese art restorer, Machado.

Researcher and writer, Alvin F Tan captured the story and process in loving detail in this National Library Board, Singapore article "Making the Invisible, Visible", and it's a fascinating read.
