Rest is a preparatory step for a longer journey ahead.

Been diligently giving myself Fridays off and I’m beginning to see some positive outcomes - I could be more laser focus on my work days and efficiency seems to have increased. I’m on target to accomplish the tasks set for the day, and get orders fulfilled timely, explains why I could now offer next-day pick up. Setting Fridays off motivates me too, so that I get to indulge in a me-day, guilt-free.

Unfortunately I don’t really get to rest on weekends - often solo parenting on Sats and we don’t have a helper. So weekends are mommy duties days and of course to spend precious time with my not-so-little boy.

Time is an intangible but yet such a precious commodity - a simple principle that the younger me didn’t and probably won’t realise.

Teens was carefree, time well spent with friends, studies and CCA. Pretty much Worries-free!

20s was splendid, with stable income and time spent on travels. Freedom smelled so good!

30s, well that’s when fatigue hits cos adulting & motherhood came along and the huge realisation that time is never not enough.

I find myself always questioning - Where did all the time go? Constantly lamenting 没有时间了 快点. Plus the sense of guilt if I were to take an hour break, cos that 1 hour could have fulfilled some work or house chores.

I felt like I’ve squandered my time away in my pre-30s. What if I’ve started my Tabletopics side hustle earlier in uni days? (I’m so impressed with students who juggle both their studies and side hustle 💪🏼) What if I’ve settled down & given birth earlier? Questioning if my life in 30s would have been easier with all sorts of what-ifs.

Then again, I probably won’t realise the preciousness of Time if I hadn’t ‘squandered’ them previously, though now looking back, those memories do bring a smile to my face, (damn they are well squandered 😂).

March is a month of reflection, a month I celebrate Tabletopics’ birth and mine. Looking back at how far I’ve built this small gift shop for 9 years and how I’m turning 38, I’m still a far cry from businesses of almost a decade old in terms of achievements.

Time will keep moving, I shall give myself a pat on the shoulder that I’m still pushing forward, engraving orders one at a time, one step a day, albeit a slower pace, at my pace so long I’m moving forward. I still haven’t have a clear vision of how this business will look, but I’m sure a few years down the road, it will look different and better than how it is now.

Amidst the LNY orders, I got to personalise some keepsakes for little ones.

Just like that, it’s almost the 2nd weekend of 2024, we’re coming to mid Jan already.

How’s everyone’s routines settling in? Have you been diligently sustaining your new year resolution(s)?

There’s one simple habit that I’ve been wanting to work on - Sleep Early. Obviously I have brought this bad habit from 2023 (rather since 1999) to 2024. I’ve never been a morning person and I enjoy the peace and tranquil at night, to just wind down over Netflix (Singles Inferno 3 kept me up the past weeks 😅). I found it easy to study at late nights during school days too but I certainly won’t advocate that.

So there’s one habit that I’d like to start young with my boy, that is the habit of saving - to inculcate the value of opportunity costs. Since he’s only 4, I go with a simple analogy that if you’d like to get this cup of orange juice then we’ll have to forgo the sundae ice cream. This applies to toys or anything he fancies, I find it important to delay gratifications and he has to learn to save up to purchase what he wants. We’re going cashless these days which inevitably led young children to conceive the idea that they can get what they want with just a tap. Hence having a piggy bank will help them build the idea of saving money, it’s something tangible.

As with every event - from taking exams, to travels, to interviews, to even giving birth, we will never be 100% prepared. When the time is up, we just gotta show up, be there and just wing it.

The same goes with the upcoming fair, no matter how many items I’ve listed in reminder, I know there’re bound to be things that I’d missed.

Counting down to D-1 to set-up, tomorrow’s the final packing day of everything that I need to move to site.

Not gonna be a perfect set-up, but will be presenting to you the best that I’ve prepared.

Hello folks, I’m back!

I wish I could tell you I had a blast but… I ended up nursing a bad flu throughout the break month.

Caught the unwanted flu bug right at the start of Oct. Somewhat recovered prior to our Chiangmai trip, but immune system went down again during the trip. Thankfully it was just a nagging flu then so I got to enjoy the trip, Chiangmai’s so charming btw! (Folks who are interested in our Chiangmai adventure, feel free to check out my travel IG ).

However it has now developed into a full blown flu after touching down, I’m squeaking like a mouse when I speak. Perhaps I’m allergic to Sg? 😂

I guess my overtired body just decided to break down knowing that I’ve scheduled a break month. It’s telling me to rest.

Just a week to Boutiques, I’m not quite prepared but I shall think that I am. Wish me luck to recover by then 🤧

I’m the kind who usually have no problem sleeping, easily dozing off from catching up with Netflix. But there’s this one night that I just couldn’t sleep despite having gone for a swim with my boy that evening.

I was having racing thoughts on what needs to be accomplished, what needs to be prioritised, to complete website first or finish with stocks purchase, craft designs or work on orders, Boutiques setup planning and products to feature. The to-do list just gets longer.

I was losing focus, mind’s wandering everywhere and it was 3.30 am. I knew I was getting overwhelmed, perhaps slightly panic attacky.

The next morning I woke up at my usual time with just 4 hrs of sleep. I had the adrenaline rush to tick off my to-do list but I know this anxiety is taking a toll on me. I admit I’m also the kind who gives 101% if I were to do something, do it all or do it none. Survived the day with coffee.

Until that night, I was searching for dried flowers for product photoshoots (If you’ve noticed, my vase of dried flowers that’s super overused in all my IG posts haha) and this term Wabi Sabi popped up.

I’ve heard of it but didn’t read in depth. Google search brought me to an article that explains 5 teachings of Wabi Sabi which instantly, brought so much relief and burden off my mind.

Literally enlightened, the teachings spoke to me. I felt weights lifted and was able to ease myself that there’s no perfect pop-up booth display, no perfect Christmas collection with perfect designs, no perfect quantity that I should stock. Only the best that I could plan and life goes on.
