Memphis Music established since 1991 is a Music retailer in Music CDs, Method Books and more. We do special orders as well.
Today we honour the legacy of the 'godfather of British blues', John Mayall.
The pioneering bandleader played a pivotal role in shaping the blues and rock music scene. He had a unique gift for discovering and nurturing the gifts of young musicians, such as Eric Clapton and Mick Fleetwood.
Mayall’s legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations of musicians to come. Rest in peace, John Mayall.

Legendary Bass Guitarist Carol Kaye Trashes The New Beach Boys Documentary Calling It “Staged And Phony” :
With the exception of radio personality Eddie Trunk, most knowledgeable music fans know the importance and significance of the great Carol Kaye. Not only is she one of the most iconic and influential bass players in music history, she’s also played six string guitar on some of the greatest music of the rock and roll era too.
In a world of critics and fans who give their opinions on music history every which way, she’s a woman who lived it and was there. As far as The Beach Boys go she was in the studio with the Wrecking Crew while Brian Wilson was recording much of his most legendary and enduring music. If anyone had earned the right to comment or have an opinion about a film on a documentary on The Beach Boys it’s her.
Yesterday on her page she absolutely trashed the new Beach Boys’ documentary as “staged and phony” when it showed footage of The Beach Boys in the studio recording the vocals while The Wrecking Crew was there recording the music tracks with Brian.
In her statement Carol was obviously irritated and upset that the filmmakers of this documentary have tried to rewrite history of how things actually happened in the studio. Pointing out scenes that have obviously been doctored to fool the viewer by giving the impression that The Beach Boys and The Wrecking Crew were in the studio together recording vocals and music at the very same time. Which never happened since the music was recorded long before the vocals were.
Carol is absolutely right. And this was purposely done for a reason. For decades one of the biggest criticisms of The Beach Boys has been that they didn’t play on any of the records during Brian Wilson’s most creative peak in the mid-1960s. So this was obviously a blatant attempt of rewriting history to show a cohesiveness between The Beach Boys and The Wrecking Crew as if they collaborated together in the studio. To prove their importance and contribution as a band to those classic records.
Absolutely pathetic and shameful.
I’ve asked this before and I’ll ask this again :
Why was this documentary even made ?
What was the point ?
It’s not an improvement nor upgrade of any documentaries made on the band in the past. Actually it’s a huge step backwards. You see and hear evidence of both AI doctored audio tracks and video scenes. It promotes itself with false advertising calling it “the definitive story” when it doesn’t even scratch the surface of being that. You have contributors that probably couldn’t even name five songs Dennis Wilson wrote giving their “expert opinions”. And worst of all it shows the viewer examples of exaggerating and rewriting of the actual history. Even the likes of Carol Kaye who was a part of that history calling it “fake and phony “ and she was even featured in the film.
You truly can’t make this stuff up.
The Beach Boys and their legacy have earned their crown as the kings of wasted/missed opportunities and blunders.
