The Designer Vivienne, refers to it humorously as the “mahjong” shorts due to the resemblance of the embroidered blooms silk inserts to a winning mahjong tile.

Mahjong is a game popularly played during festive occasion between family and friends. It became popular during the late Qing Dynasty and is one of the 3 quintessential Chinese games, along with Chinese Chess and Go. If played in moderate amounts, mahjong can train the focus and concentration skills of the player.

Claude Monet once proclaimed “Colour is my daylong obsession, joy and torment.”

I have learnt to appreciate yellow as a cheerful colour associated with sunflowers, summer and sunshine.

Yellow has always carried various connotations in different cultures. During the Qing dynasty, imperial yellow was a colour that only the Emperor could wear.

Chinese in Nanyang regions now associate yellow with pineapple which sounds like ”旺”， an auspicious meaning of prosperity and flourish.

Growing up, green and yellow always reminded me of the rich spices like ginger and leafy greens like Pandan, and are also the much adored colours of the Peranakans, that it appeared in their Kebayas, beaded shoes, porcelains and even the yummy kueh salat.

Green and yellow can also be the painting of a beautiful English Garden in Spring and those found in Monet’s dreamy masterpieces.

I was delighted to spend my school holidays with my Peranakan grandmother as a young curious girl with an unsatiated appetite for European Art History, Asian culture and an endless fascination with porcelains.

I hope this humble creation of a fitted fine lace short jacket cm top with bandung pink lace trimmings and full bias Italian Cotton skirt in rich butter cream with oriental happiness motifs waist band, is an interesting confluence of fine delicate motifs that straddle between Asian and Western aesthetics.

每个颜色诉说着文化的故事和季节的演变。

黄和绿蕾丝外套上衣镶捆粉色蕾丝细边和高级意大利棉的斜纹裙子，所带的黄色有着”黄白游”的美名，是立春之色。黄山白岳是神仙梦，黄金白银是富贵梦，都是好梦。

在南洋地带，很多华人也因黄和旺谐音而把这颜色当成吉祥色与贵族的颜色。在峇峇娘惹的族群里，黄和绿更是频频出现在服饰，图腾，瓷器甚至在美味的糕点上！我儿时里的记忆也把黄和绿联想成南洋香料如黄姜、斑斓叶的颜色、更是莫奈油画里的梦幻花园。

这些点点滴滴的意境都呈现在这衣裳上，希望带给大家春色满园的南洋梦。

Metalware was a craft reserved for the elite. This precious bright yellow painted enamel plate from the Qing Emperor’s YongZhen reign caught the attention of Creative Director Vivienne who photographed it on a trip to the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Poem written by Vivienne .

European craftsmen then guided the imperial workshops in achieving the finest works of art. Turning a glorious new page in the cultural exchange between China and the West, enamels serve as a symbol of prosperity and artistic skills during the Qing Era.

Likewise, Fuchsia Lane has always sought to promote Fine Nanyang Fashion with precision and craftsmanship as well as a delicate balance of South East Asian and Western influences.

This exquisite Qipao features 9 auspicious dragons in the front and back metallic sheen brocade panels, with the left and right back panels meticulously matched and aligned at the zip.

The privilege of wearing 9 dragons is previously reserved only for the Imperial ruler. The Qipao’s sense of magnificence is softened by the curves of the panels, which creates a flattering hour glass silhouette when worn.

“民以食为天，民食足而后兴教化，教化兴而后国治安”

金属器是工艺中的贵族，在金属胎上涂珐琅釉药而成的珐琅器，在明清时期成为最重要的工艺。乾隆融合各种珐琅技法并结合中国与西洋纹饰，是中西文化交流璀璨的新页，亦是国富民强的象征。

本品牌热衷于传承南洋文化和衣品，在旗袍的工艺上不断精益求精。

这件旗袍讲究精准的做工和工匠的巧手来缝制。9条生动的瑞龙出现在前片和后片的锦缎。带有光泽的锦缎像珍贵的珐琅瓷。后左右片虽有后中拉链却完全对齐。穿上去显现王者风范与魅力但又曲线玲珑。

Dragons and cloud motifs are auspicious symbols on the Emperor’s Robe, signifying unparalleled supremacy and power. Variations of these motifs have since been found on many important architecture and wealthy residences in South East Asia.

祥云绕身，祥瑞之兆。

金线绣出的祥云和龙，诉说着古老的传说与尊贵的气度。

文化是内涵，是谈吐，是举手投足间，也是衣品。

外套用了布满祥龙图腾的丝绸缎布作为领子，再加上口袋盖用了反面缎布的银色祥龙，便以细牙镀金色拉链做口袋镶边，极为特别和精致。

西方牛仔布配上东方的丝绸缎布和袖口上的法国蕾丝细边，剪裁显腰身，现代中带点典雅，帅气中流露一丝感性和妩媚。

会议上或旅游中像我们创意总监一样披上这件现代感十足的“战袍”肯定旗开得胜！一天都是好心情 🩷

The semi-precious stone Lapis Lazuli resembles the blue of the heavens and was believed to counteract the spirits of darkness.

This precious lapis lazuli boulder 青金石雕山水图山子 that is imperially inscribed with Qianlong Emperor’s poem caught the eye of the Designer Vivienne, in the Court of Treasures 珍宝馆 at the Imperial Palace.

During the Qing Dynasty, blues were worn predominantly by officials. Shades were given beautiful names that are closely related to nature. Deep blues denoted higher rank, serving as a visual representation of authority and responsibility.

Adding a youthful Nanyang vibe and blending East and West influences, see how Vivienne combines Denim with Dragon Brocade, piped with plated fine tooth gold zipper in a Qipao.

Some say the love affair of the Chinese with the Southern Seas (南洋) started from The Great Sea Expedition of Ming Dynasty Admiral Cheng Ho (郑和). In his 7 treasure voyages, many Chinese settled down and marry the local Malay women where their children become known as the Peranakans.

These Red Walls make up the Forbidden Palace, home to 24 Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasty. As the pinnacle of Imperial prowess and opulence, many Chinese sees the Palace as a cultural and heavenly link to the ancestors.

According to legends, Yellow Emperor was the ancestor of the Chinese people, and his totem was the Dragon – a symbol of power and strength, thus Chinese view themselves as “Descendants of the Dragon”.

Ever saw these figures on a roof?

These mythical charms protect the owners under the roof and a magnificent 10 are on the corner eaves of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, at the Forbidden Palace in Beijing.

These auspicious charms are sometimes found in variations in sacred Chinese buildings around the world. All of them look to a distance which seem like they are longing to be where they come from.

“追远“ which to me means “ Honour our Heritage” is often found in Peranakan households and is an endearing reminder not to forget our ancestors and our humble origins.

As National Day draws near, I wanted to design a collection which pays tribute to our Forefathers and where they came from.

To celebrate National Day is to take pride in our roots, and appreciate how we have come from an immigrant society to building a living Nanyang legacy, enjoying harmonious ties with our ASEAN neighbours.

你可曾看过这些在屋檐的吉祥物吗？

可爱的脊兽来自古代的神话传说，神圣的任务是保护屋檐下的九五至尊。没错，紫禁城的太和殿的屋檐就有10 位。

在一些据威严的建筑物也有可能有类似的吉祥物。它们几百年来都遥望远方似乎也想家了。

“追远”的牌匾出现在许多娘惹大户人家里。是对祖先敬仰，不忘初心和饮水思源。

国庆将近，若回顾历史，会发现新加坡的根源，其实蕴藏了丰富的文化和艺术资产，那些就像是凝聚了全世界的精华。

我希望新的系列是寻根之旅，是庆祝我们建国过程所创造的的有趣南洋风格和时尚。

Tina is a pivotal figure in the fashion scene in Singapore and Southeast Asia, introducing famous international brands to this region.

Synonymous with good taste, Tina was also awarded by the Italian government with Ordine Della Stella D’italia L’onorificenza Di Cavaliere (Order of the Star of Italy) for bringing Italian brands like Prada and Manolo Blahnik to Asia and Sg shores.

This distinction, which qualifies as a second civilian honour of the State, is awarded to those who have acquired special merit in the promotion of friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries.

Proud of you- my Dad! 🩷💙

From a kampong boy in small Malaysian fishing village to the top sales manager in an American firm in the 60s and 70s was quite a feat. But Dad did it!

My Dad strikes me as someone with wild ideas and a deep passion for learning and improvement.

Despite his little education ( he didn’t finish his secondary school due to the family situation), he started going for night schools to learn English and became the person whom everyone came for advice in his village due to his knowledge and language proficiency. He also knocked on doors to sell insurance and explain to these villagers when paying to get insured in future was a very foreign concept decades ago.

Coming from a typewriter era, he went for computer and software lessons even when Dad is in his 70s!

When we were little, Dad was struggling to make ends meeting being the sole bread winner, so he only came back from Malaysia to visit us in Singapore during weekend. But Dad makes it a point to bring me and my sister to the National Library at Stamford Road to borrow books frequently. He wld read the books to me of Chinese historical tales extolling moral values like courage and loyalty. I guess that is how it inculcated strong moral values in me and the love for reading and writing and an insatiable curiosity for life.

Dad is never strict with me in terms of academic performance but always proud of my endeavours and the new challenges I embarked on. He is working even at the age of 78- an epitome of active living and ageing. His gungho attitude and resilience influenced me to forge ahead even in times of difficulty.

As a kid, I was bitter about the things I didn’t have compared to our more well to do cousins. But as I mature now and gone thru life challenges, I felt Dad and Mum have given their best to me, and the best they can afford. That is enough. 😊

Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Feeling blessed we can still spend time together. Wishing you and all heroes out there happiness always 😌

Having brought in more than 70 international fashion brands to Singapore and Southeast Asia, one would wonder how different the fashion scene in the region would have been without her.

This distinction, which qualifies as a second civilian honour of the State, represents a particular honour on behalf of all those, Italians abroad or foreigners, who have acquired special merit in the promotion of friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries, and the promotion of ties with Italy. This is how valuable she is!
