[RCS Weekly Meeting - 15 May 2024] Distinguished Guest Speaker Series: We were honored to welcome H.E. Dante Brandi, Ambassador of Italy to Singapore, who shared his insights on the topic “Soft Response to Hard Times: The Case for Public Diplomacy.” Ambassador Brandi discussed the enduring relevance of diplomacy, highlighting its key roles in resolving conflicts, fostering international cooperation, and maintaining global stability. He illustrated how diplomacy is crucial for managing international relations, addressing global challenges, and promoting cultural exchange, making it essential for global peace and development. We also enjoyed a captivating piano and flute performance by Larisa Tupitsyna & Isabel Elliott after, and their music added a touch of elegance to our gathering. We also celebrated the 80th birthday of our Honorary Member Uttam Kripalani and the wedding anniversary of Francesco & Laura. It was a joyous occasion filled with love and happiness. [RCS Weekly Meeting - 27 March 2024] Distinguished Guest Speaker Series We had the immense privilege of welcoming Mr. Ng Kok Song, the esteemed Executive Chairman of Avanda Investment Management, to our latest Distinguished Speaker Series. With a remarkable 45-year career spanning pivotal roles at the Ministry of Finance, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and as the former Chief Investment Officer at GIC, Mr. Ng has been a foundational pillar in shaping Singapore’s finance sector. His insights on sovereign wealth and its impact on the citizenry, as well as his role in founding the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (now SGX) and the Wealth Management Institute, provided invaluable perspectives on our national reserves and the broader financial landscape. The evening was further enlivened by the melodious talents of the Sembawang Sound Waves from the Interact Club of Sembawang. Their captivating guitar fingerstyle, piano, and flute performances added a special touch of harmony and inspiration to the event. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Ng for his enlightening discourse and to our young performers for their enchanting musical showcase. 🏮✨ Happy Chinese New Year from the Rotary Club of Singapore! ✨🏮 As we usher in the Year of the Dragon, we were thrilled to celebrate with a reunion dinner, embracing traditions and welcoming new beginnings. 🔮 Our special guest, Fengshui Master Mr. Samuel Lin, captivated us with his insightful predictions for 2024, delving into the mysteries of the Chinese Zodiac Fengshui. His expertise set the tone for a year of prosperity and harmony! 🖌️ The talented Mr. Chew Ho Son, a master calligrapher, graced us with his artistry, creating personalized couplets for our members and guests. These beautiful works of art were not just souvenirs but symbols of good fortune and blessings for the year ahead. 🦁 The evening was further enlivened by the vibrant Lion Dance performance, filling the air with energy and good spirits. The rhythmic beats and lively movements were a true spectacle! 🎭 Witnessing the Face Changing performance was like stepping into a world of magic and tradition, leaving us all in awe of this ancient art form. 🍲 And, of course, the highlight of the evening was the tossing of Yu Sheng (Lou Hei). Together, we tossed the colorful ingredients high, symbolizing our hopes and wishes for abundance, health, and joy in the coming year. 🧧🏮 Celebrating Chinese New Year with SAS Residents! 🐲🍊 This Chinese New Year, the Rotary Club of Singapore brought festive cheer to the residents of the Society for the Aged Sick (SAS), a legacy of our club’s community service. We embarked on a vibrant journey around Chinatown, joined by our enthusiastic Rotarians, Interactors, and Rotaractors. Our day began with a delightful lunch at the renowned Yan Palace, where we shared stories & bonded amidst traditional festive dishes. 🍽️🎉 Post-lunch, Chinatown beckoned us with its festive vibrancy. We strolled through the bustling streets, soaked in the festive atmosphere, and indulged in some light shopping. The colorful streets, adorned with lanterns and decorations, provided a perfect backdrop for our day out. 🏮🛍️ Our journey concluded at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a moment to reflect and appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of our community. 🙏✨ It was a day filled with warmth, care, and the spirit of giving back, reflecting our commitment to ‘Service Above Self’. The Society for the Aged Sick, which began at a property in Toa Payoh Rise donated by one of our members and now located in Hougang Avenue 1, remains close to our hearts. It’s a testament to our ongoing commitment to care for our elderly, a tradition we proudly continue. [RCS x SNM Visit to Little India] 🪔 Celebrating Deepavali with the Rotary Club of Singapore! 🌟 We had the privilege of bringing 30 wonderful elders from the Sree Narayana Mission (SNM) Nursing Home for a delightful day walking through the vibrant streets of Little India, enjoy a delicious feast at Banana Leaf Apolo, followed by a guided visit to the Indian Heritage Centre. [RCS Weekly Meeting - 1 November 2023] What a fantastic evening it was at our weekly Rotary Club meeting! We were honored to have Dr. Gowreeson Thevendran, an esteemed orthopaedic surgeon, share his expertise on joint biomechanics, injury patterns, and genetic predispositions. 🦴💡 Dr. Thevendran did an incredible job debunking common myths about joint health, including those related to vitamins, sprains, and minimalist running. Our members were thrilled to have the opportunity to ask him questions and learn from his vast knowledge. But that’s not all! We are delighted to announce the induction of three new members into our Rotary Club of Singapore family. Welcome Navaneeth Rajkumar, Deepa Navaneeth, and Jeff Lim!
