The Rotary Club of Singapore

#ServiceAboveSelf Rotary Club of Singapore is the oldest and largest Rotary Club in Singapore. We turned 90 on 6th June 2020. HOW WE DO IT? FAIR to all concerned?

Over the 90+ years, the Club has undertaken many projects locally and internationally for the needy, less able and marginalised sectors of the community. On the domestic front, we established then much needed institutions which have become independent, turned over to the government or were no longer needed. These include Singapore AntiTuberculosis Association (SATA), the Anti-TB Clinic in Tan Tock

🌊🏊‍♂️ Swimarathon 2024: A Splashing Success! 🏊‍♀️🌊

On March 29th, 2024, the Swimarathon brought together swimmers, supporters, and distinguished guests for a day of swimming and philanthropy. Organized by the Rotary Club of Singapore and Singapore Aquatics, the event marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for future collaborations between the two organizations, solidifying their shared commitment to community service and promoting aquatic sports.

We were honored to have Mr. Eric Chua, the Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth (MCCY), as our guest of honor. A special highlight was the appearance of Mr. Joseph Schooling, the esteemed Olympic Gold Medallist, who swam 20 laps and raised $4,000 for the cause.

The event saw a remarkable turnout, with a total of 191 swimmers participating in the Swimarathon. Among them, 25 were dedicated Rotarian swimmers, exemplifying the Rotary Club’s commitment to service and community involvement. Together, the participants swam an impressive total of 12,115 laps, raising over $60,000.

This money will go towards supporting Singapore Aquatics’ Swim Safe program for underprivileged children and the ISCOS ex-offenders re-skilling program.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this fantastic event. Let’s continue to make waves in our community! 🌊💙

🌟✨**A Day of Heartfelt Celebration: Hari Raya with Jamiyah Nursing Home Residents** 🎨🕌

On 13th April, in the heart of Geylang Serai, a magical celebration unfolded as 20 wheelchair-bound residents of Jamiyah Nursing Home were treated to a memorable Hari Raya experience, organized by the Community Service Committee of the The Rotary Club of Singapore.

Starting with a sumptuous 7-course meal at Mutiara Restaurant, the beneficiaries savoured every dish, especially relishing the prawn crackers, which later found their way into the goodie bags. During lunch the volunteers and beneficiaries connected over food and heartfelt conversations about their life journeys.

Next, they immersed themselves in the art of Batik painting at Kamal Arts, guided by the talented Kamal Dollah (Rotary Artisan of the Year winner) and enthusiastic volunteers. Laughter filled the air as they unleashed their creativity, forming bonds that transcended barriers. It was heartwarming to see the beneficiaries painting with concentration and joy.

Amidst the festivities, a young girl's soulful rendition of an Islamic prayer warmed hearts, adding a touch of beauty to the day. Sonali Sinha, President Nominee and Community Service Committee Chair, expressed gratitude to the 30 volunteers whose dedication made the day possible. "Such events are not possible without the heartfelt involvement of all our dedicated Rotarians. Thank you all for coming and making it a memorable day for the beneficiaries 🙏🏼." She also thanked the incoming CSC Chair Raj Kumar for his extensive support in organising the event.

Goodie bags filled with treats like dates, nuts, cookies, and sweets were distributed, each item a token of appreciation for the love and joy shared. A group photo captured the camaraderie, while a beneficiary expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with volunteers.

As the day came to a close, emotions ran high. For organizers, volunteers, and beneficiaries alike, it was a day of laughter, love, and the true spirit of Hari Raya. In these moments, the power of community and compassion shone brightest.

Thank you Ishk Tolaram Foundation and The Rotary Club of Singapore Sunshine Funds for supporting this meaningful project 🙏

[World Understanding and Peace Day 2024]

All the Rotary Clubs in Singapore came together with nearly 300 attendees to celebrate World Understanding and Peace Day at the iconic Goodwood Park Hotel last Friday, and it was a day filled with hope, inspiration, and a collective commitment to fostering global understanding and peace.

We were privileged to have Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State - Ministry of Communications and Information, & Ministry of Health, who graced our event with his presence. His enlightening words and dedication to building a more connected world resonated deeply with everyone present.

"These troubling developments are a sobering reminder that we cannot take our lasting peace and social harmony for granted. Singapore needs to continue to approach potentially divisive issues with tolerance and respect towards one another’s views. The social harmony we enjoy today did not come about by chance, but through many years of patient effort and deliberate engagement with community organisations and volunteers. Community organisations and volunteers play a vital and important role in building a cohesive Singapore society."

Highlighting the spirit of unity, the event brought together 9 religious leaders for an inter-faith prayer, beautifully symbolizing our shared hope for peace and harmony across different faiths and communities. This powerful moment reminded us of our common humanity and the strength found in diversity.

World Understanding and Peace Day (WUPD), celebrated annually on February 23rd by Rotary International, commemorates the founding of Rotary in 1905 and emphasizes the importance of fostering international cooperation and cultural exchange. This day underscores the critical role of community service and global understanding in achieving peace.

As we reflect on this significant day, we carry forward the message of peace and unity. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to making this day truly memorable.
