TikTok · 8 Days Eat 284 likes, 4 comments. “Myanmar-born F&B entrepreneur Melody, sells Burmese-Indian curry chicken noodle at Toa Payoh Lor 4.”
Constructed 2 years after our Independence, Toa Payoh block 93 hawker center is probably the oldest hawker center in Singapore, if not in Toa Payoh..
In comparison, in the year 1967, we remembered the stretch of road side push-card hawkers along old-airport road, they were only settled into the present old-airport food center in 1973, 6 years after Tpy block 93.
As the lease at Block 93 Tpy still has a long 43 years to go, it was given an overhaul for 2 months, and it re-opens today.
However, the stall holders are setting up their stalls today (23rd Aug) in preparation for business. A few stalls like Melody Curry, Lor Mee stall, Noodle stall next to melody curry and M1 Crab (Toa Payoh seafood center) will be ready for business tomorrow. (24th Aug 23)
The dish collection contractor has up its fees, NEA will also revise their rental upwards periodically, and I hope diners will be gracious to accept some upward price adjustments.
See you there.

For people who really love to explore food that stand the test of time, this set meal for two, include a sample portion of Laphet Thoke.
Laphet thoke is a traditional Burmese salad made with fermented tea leaves, also known as pickled tea leaves. The origins of laphet thoke can be traced back to the Shan state in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and the ethnic Shan people who lived there.
The Shan people traditionally fermented tea leaves as a way to preserve them for use throughout the year. Over time, they began to incorporate these fermented tea leaves into various dishes, including salads. Laphet thoke became a popular dish throughout the Shan state and eventually spread to other parts of Myanmar.
In addition to fermented tea leaves, laphet thoke typically includes a variety of other ingredients such as roasted peanuts, sesame seeds, garlic, chili peppers, and dried shrimp. These ingredients are mixed together with the tea leaves and a dressing made from fish sauce, lime juice, and oil.
Laphet thoke is a beloved dish in Myanmar and is often served as a snack or appetizer. It is also a popular dish to serve at special occasions such as weddings and festivals. In recent years, laphet thoke has gained popularity outside of Myanmar and can now be found in restaurants around the world.

"The stall name might sound simple: Melody Chicken Curry Noodle. But take a closer look and you would quickly see that this isn’t the usual hawker version that you can commonly find. Here, owner Melody Yen taps into her Burmese roots to create a curry that is tinged with Indian influences. The result: an intriguing, spice-scented bowl that cannot be found elsewhere. "
