The world of legends 🧙 The devil's bridge

Once upon a time, it was decided to build a bridge to connect the two sides of the river 💦

The strongest men from the village were appointed to build the structure. They diligently built the bridge. But one morning they returned to the place and found that the structure was destroyed! 😱

"I am not building it anymore!" Shouted one of the builders. "The devil himself can build it. But I won't!" 😡

The devil was waiting for that. He appeared beside the rubble, and with a snap of his fingers, fixed the bridge 😈

"Now I want a payment" triumphantly said the devil. "I will take to hell the soul of the first being to cross this bridge." He said this and disappeared 💀

The men were terrified. After all, no one wanted to spend eternity in hell or put their family or a random passer-by in such danger 😱

Fortunately, there was a well-known local joker among them. The clever builder decided to let the dog go over the bridge first. He threw the bone to the other side, and the animal ran after it 🐕‍🦺

In this way, the devil got his soul. When he saw that instead of a human sacrifice, he had an animal - he swore revenge 😈

Crossing the bridge, watch out for the devil! His revenge may affect you. The devil is still patiently waiting for the right moment 😱

Mining in the Julian Alps ⛏

The first record of mining in the Julian Alps is from 800 BC! That was an Iron Age 😊

In 800 BC and antiquity, the most important iron industry center was Bohinj ⚒

Mining was one of the main activities of the people living at the foot of the Alps 🌄

The world of legends 🧙 the Mostnica waterfall

A long, long time ago, God created a small river at the foot of Triglav - the Malo polje 💦

The river ran through flowery meadows. It sparkled in the sunshine and was a diamond of the valley 🏞

Numerous animals came to the river bank to drink from it. They told the Malo polje that it was delicious. And the mountains would lean over the river and say that it was beautiful 🦊

Hearing so many compliments, the Malo polje changed from a nice, peaceful stream to a prideful, aggressive river 🌊

Seeing this, God decided to cleanse the river of its pride. He ordered the Malo polje to flow underground. The soil cleaned it of negative feelings. The innocent and cheerful river flows back to Earth as the Mostnica waterfall 💦

When visiting the waterfall, think about this legend. And remember - don't be prideful! Because you will end up like the Malo polje 🏞

The first people in the Julian Alps 🌄

The oldest human traces in the Julian Alps date back 3,600 years 👣

This means that people have been coming to the Julian Alps since the dawn of time. The first visitors were attracted by natural wealth - the rivers with drinking water, fruit, or forests full of animals 🐟

It is worth the uphill struggle to see the world from above 🌎

The world of legends 🧙 The Soča River

Do you know the history of the Soča River? 🌊

It took place in ancient times when giants walked the Earth, dragons lived in the mountains, and gods ruled everything 👣

Once upon a time, an evil giant named Vodobruhec came to the area of today's Triglav National Park. He had an unusual ability. When he opened his mouth, water poured out of it 💦

Unfortunately, he was also a vicious character. He took great pleasure in drowning villages and people 😢

At that time, three gods lived in the Trenta valley - Triglav, Jalovec, and Mangart. To them, people turned for help 🤲

Unfortunately, none of the gods could deal with Vodobruhec alone. So they decided to join forces 💪

One night, when the giant was asleep, they sneaked up on him and tied him up. They left him tied up in a cave but left his mouth open - this is how Vodobruhec gave birth to The Soča River 🌊

Many centuries have passed, and the giant is still bound. However, we must be careful! If he only breaks his bonds and closes his mouth - The Soča River will dry up 😲

Triglav's name 🏔

What does the name Triglav mean? 🤔

Literally three heads, or three peaks. The name refers to the appearance of the mountain 🌄

What is the history of the name? 🤔

Before the highest mountain in Slovenia was called Triglav, centuries had to pass 🏔

A map from 1567 calls the peak Ocra mons. And already in the 17th century, the name Krma began to appear 😊

Despite that, before Ocra mons and Krma there appeared names similar to today's one 🌄

In 1452 Triglav was recorded as Terglau. Later the name evolved to Terklou. And in modern times we use the name Triglav 🏔

The world of legends 🧙‍♂️ The Mlinarica River

As it happens in legends, there must be a conflict between good and evil. In this story, it is a fight between the local priest and the devil 👹

Once upon a time, the devil stole the priest's books. The parish priest decided to get them back. He took holy water with him and chased the devil 📚

The devil was so frightened by the holy water that he threw the stolen books at the rock. At that moment, a torrent gushed out of the hollow left by the pieces of literature 💦

The torrent is now the Mlinarica River. And you can see it on your trail 🏞

The massif feels, thinks and make plans. And this story is about a mountain that decided to rise higher than Triglav 🌄

The spirit and the dragon of the mountain were pulling the stones apart, climbing upwards. But God looked down on it with doubt. And just when the hill had become a hill and the hill a mountain and just when it was about to surpass Triglav... everything collapsed! 🐉

It was God who decided that Triglav should remain the highest peak 😇

And the brave, though the fallen mountain, was named Podrta Gora, which means Collapsed Mountain 🌄

The giantess of Triglav is known by the name Pagan Girl, or Ajdovska Deklica in Slovene 👩‍🦰

She was a friendly person who helped the local people. Pagan Girl protected them from avalanches and various misfortunes 🍀

She also had the gift of seeing into the future. It became her curse 🥺

She foretold the birth of a baby from Trent, who was to be the slayer of a golden-horned white chamois - Zlatorog. Although the giantess had no influence on the future but only predicted it, she drew many enemies 😡

The Pagan Girl was turned to stone. It was her last prediction 😢

Many people mourned the loss of the giantess. There was no longer anyone to watch over the flocks 👀

However, the memory of her remained. And you may pass by her on the trail, forever turned to stone 👩‍🦰
