In a recent interview with one of the contestants for Miss Citizen 2019, Lilian Isatu Kargbo has informed this press that she is calling on her fans to support her to be crown Miss Citizen 2019.
She further went on to say that the reasons she wanted to be crowd Miss Citizen is for her to have a platform were she can use to fight Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriage which she thinks these two have been an alarming and frightening issue in Sierra Leone and have slow down not just the progress of every girl child but also the nation. She emphasized that a lot of girls of her age suffer these problems every day to an extent of death but yet these problems keep on increasing.
According to my research, I found out that some of the causes of these problems are :
1) Poverty
2) Peer pressure
3) Illiteracy
4) Lack of parental care
5) Traditional beliefs etc.
She then further went on to say that some of the negative effects it creates on these children's lives are;
It makes them become a school dropout.
It increases the rate of single parenthood as well as poverty
It affects the health and empowerment of young girls in our society.
And as a young and dedicated Teenager coming up, she said that her role is to help moderate Teenage pregnancy and early marriage in S/L and that will be done through engaging in massive sensitization. Appling various strategies, school sensitize campaigns, Talking to community elders and the public, educate our illiterate parents and also teach these young women about s*x education.

In her conclusion, she said that she is aware that the government and some private organizations have been doing their best to get a zero-tolerance on these problems but that has never been enough because the worst still happening to teenagers of her age and it's killing us all. So, we should not compromise or relent in ensuring that this fruitful battle is won. We will keep on the fight until we see that we have finally overcome every obstacle.
