Over the weekend, the Patriotic Advocacy Network - PAN officially unveiled the BSK Public Speaking for Girls at the Freetown City Council Building.

The Public Speaking for Girls with the ultimate goal of Empowering Girls through the Power of Public Speaking, Music, and Spoken Words - is an initiative that was developed by the Patriotic Advocacy Network in 2021 which serves as a platform for training, mentoring, empowering, and inspiring young girls in the field of leadership, public speaking, communications, advocacy, and career development.

The initiative serves as a platform that amplifies girls' voices to speak up on issues affecting them.

Giving the background of the initiative, Patriot Janet S. Kallon, Chairperson, Board of Directors, started by noting that women's and girls' empowerment is one of the core mandates of PAN.

She said that Public Speaking for Girls was introduced as a means to adequately equip girls using the power of public speaking, music, and spoken words as a vehicle to channel the voices of girls on issues serving as backlash towards reaching their rich potential.

“Empower Girls to Act Positively” and "Digital Generation Our Generation" were the themes used in 2021 and 2022 respectively. She stated.

The 2024 Public Speaking for Girls is titled the Dr-Bernadette Sanko Kamara Public Speaking for Girls, also known as the BSK Public Speaking for Girls.

According to the Head of the Committee, Esther Tholley, the name was meritoriously given in honor of the tremendous work that Dr. Bernadette Sanko Kamara is doing for the Sierra Leonean Community, the African Continent, and the world at large. Dr. Bernadette Sanko Kamara is the CEO and FOUNDER of BSK TV, Berny's Hope Foundation, and the BSK Group of Companies. She is a philanthropist, gender and human rights activist, and an academic. Esther added.

Speaking of the central theme, Ansumana Keita, the Chief Patriot and Founder of PAN, stated that the theme for this year is: "Empowering Girls to Build Our Shared Future".

Chief Patriot noted that the theme was deliberately and critically chosen by the Leadership of PAN and further stated that ten topics will be drawn from the theme for the Public Speaking Competition. The Music and Spoken Words Competition shall entail the following topics:

🔰Early Marriage;

🔰Gender Based Violence;

🔰Drug Abuse;

🔰 Injustices; and

🔰 Education.

The Chief Patriot rounded off his statement by giving the background and core values of PAN.

He concluded his statement by noting that this year's Public Speaking for Girls shall entail five major activities:

🔰 School to School Campaign;

🔰 Public Speaking Training;

🔰Career and Mentorship Day;

🔰 Public Speaking, Music and Spoken;
Words Competition; and

🔰 Evaluation Meeting.

The Career and Mentorship Day is scheduled to take place at the Sierra Leone Peace Museum Special Court.

The Public Speaking, Music, and Spoken Words Competition is slated for 18-19 October 2024 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Fourah Bay College, at exactly 9:00 am.

Ansumana Keita calls on like-minded institutions and individuals to support and sponsor the Public Speaking for Girls which is under their PAN@10plus Anniversary.

SCHOOL CAMPAIGN!

We started Week 2 of our School Campaign at the Bishop Johnson Memorial School , situated at Fourah Bay Road.

Our goal for this week is to target ten (10) schools.

We all have a role to play in fostering the growth and development of our beloved Mama Salone.

PAN School Campaign at Saint Edward's School, Kingtom.

An educated girl will be more apt to voice her opinions, be involved in political and economic affairs, and create a safe space for empowering other women and girls"

SCHOOL CAMPAIGN UPDATES!

WEEK 1

Education enlightens young people about their roles and responsibilities in their communities and societies. It teaches them the values of ethics, empathy, and civic duty. By understanding their responsibilities, young individuals can contribute constructively to society.

It's against this backdrop that last week, we kick-started our School to School Campaign - a school tour to various secondary schools in the Western Area Rural and Urban.

The purposes of our School Campaign are as follows:

🔰To revive our established school chapters and to establish new ones;
🔰To speak in the hearts and souls of young boys and girls about the essence of patriotism and the importance of education;
🔰To talk about our upcoming events:
▪️The Public Speaking for Girls 2024 which is scheduled to take place at the Multi-Purpose Hall, , on the & # October 2024;
▪️The Cowbell Kapu Sense Challenge is organized by Premium Divine Trading Company Limited Cowbell Sierra Leone and is slated in November this year.

👉🏾20 schools will be participating in the Public Speaking for Girls at FBC.

👉🏾32 schools will be contesting in this year's Cowbell Kapu Sense Challenge. Round of 32 will be hosted at St Edward's School Hall, the defending Champion 🏆.

we successfully visited nine (9) schools:

🔰Hill Valley Academy;
🔰 Lumbly High School;
🔰MGHS;
🔰Albert Academy;
🔰Saint Edward's;
🔰 Govt Kingdom;
🔰St Joseph's;
🔰Prince of Wales; and
🔰 Govt Rokel.

Our goal is to reach out to forty-two (42) schools in the Western Area, Rural and Urban. Hence, we shall continue with our school campaign in the next two weeks.

Yesterday, we had a fruitful planning meeting with Premium Divine Trading Company Limited for our back to school campaign which shall be commencing next week and the Cowbell Kapu Sɛns Challenge which shall be staged in November this year.

𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒

The Management of the 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 - 𝐏𝐀𝐍 extends deep gratitude to every one of you for contributing to the success of our Leadership and Public Speaking Masterclass. Your collective efforts and enthusiasm made the event not only successful but also truly memorable.

It was truly an honor to be a part of such a transformative event. The incredible dedication and hard work that went into making the event a resounding success left me in awe.

The energy in the room, the passionate engagement of the participants and the erudite facilitators, and the level of thought-provoking discourse on leadership and public speaking exceeded all expectations. It was a privilege to witness the commitment of everyone present to personal growth and empowerment. The impact of this event will surely echo far beyond its conclusion.
