On Saturday, July 13, 2024, JCI Unify successfully executed its “Plant a Tree” project, under the leadership of Director Zippora Oosterling, in collaboration with Elim van de Heer orphanage and SPESUR. The project was efficiently coordinated by Vice President Internal Mitchel Monsels, who provided clear instructions that were diligently followed. The primary objective was to establish a vegetable garden with the children, enabling the orphanage to become self-sufficient in its vegetable needs. The day’s activities included laying out garden beds and planting vegetable seedlings, with the children displaying great enthusiasm.🍃 During the break, the kids and Fellows enjoyed delicious snacks provided by Sun Ice and refreshed themselves with purified water from Zenobia Bottling. On september 22nd at the JCI Paramaribo Headquarters, the paricipants from the Membership & Extension Drive Training 2023 attended their graduation day. The ceremony started with an opening from Director Issaura Tholen from JCI Unify and Vice President Internal Veroushka Druiventak from JCI Paramaribo. The paricipants got to formally introduce themselves and got to share their learnings from the training. Finally the National President Derick Boldewijn awarded the participants their certificate. Lastly, we celebrated with some cake. We are amazed by the participation of Observers from all local chapters of JCI Suriname. From August 11th to August 13th, 2023, JCI Unify hosted the engaging Explore Suriname With Unify (ESU) event in collaboration with Bio with Wirjo at Jan Starke Opleiding en Ontspannings Centrum. Throughout this vibrant event, participants took part in educational walks, delved into mangrove ecosystems and their alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's), and brainstormed strategies for reducing their carbon footprint while amplifying their Carbon Handprint. Guided by Executive Vice President Kayleigh Becker, the mangrove session shed light on Suriname's mangroves and their link to the SDG's. Attendees uncovered the fascinating connection between the two, fostering a deeper understanding of the significance of these ecosystems. In the Carbon Footprint & Handprint session, led by Local Treasurer Pascali Vreedzaam, participants explored practical ways to minimize their carbon footprint's impact. They also learned about the concept of Carbon Handprint, discovering how their positive actions can counterbalance their environmental impact and contribute to a greener future. This event is held yearly to bring attention to our beautiful green riches receding in Suriname.
