IMPROVE THE ECONOMY: PRESIDENT KIIR TELLS HEADS OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

Juba, 4th October 2023- President Kiir has urged the newly appointed officials to join hands and address the shortfalls in the economy in order to improve the livelihood of the people.

Kiir was speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan Dr. James Alic Garang, First Deputy Governor, Samuel Yanga Mikaya and Second Deputy Governor, Nyiel Gordon Kuol and the Chairperson of Civil Service Commission Dr. Julia Aker Duany on Wednesday.

The Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin described the appointment of the new officials as strategic as the government works out a plan to address the economic challenges facing the nation.

The Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Barnaba Bak Chol pledged to work with the new officials in an effort to transform the country's economy.

The Bank's Governor Dr. James Alic Garang said the new team at the economic institutions would work together to deliver on their mandate.

President Kiir on Tuesday signed the National Elections Act, 2012 (Amendment) Act, 2023 bill into law

Rt. Hon. Speaker of Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jema Nunu Kumba said the bill is an important element in the Revitalized peace agreement for the process of elections to commence.

In conclusion Rt. Hon. Nunu added that the country is now ready to start The preparation for the elections by putting in place the machinism for parties to do elections.

JUST IN: The U.S. Embassy in Juba has condemned the remarks of Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth regarding the killing of American Journalist Christopher Allen in South Sudan in 2017.

The embassy said Makuei's November 2 statement is "irresponsible" and demands clarification as to whether the remarks - referring to the slain journalist as a white rebel - represent the position of the South Sudan government. .
