Dear community members,

We are excited to share an update on the Shea butter project being implemented by Advocacy for Community Transformation (ACT). This project is aimed at empowering women and generating income for them through the collection, crushing, and pressing of Shea nuts to produce Shea butter , branded as Organic Planet.

Through this project, ACT is creating opportunities for women to develop skills in Shea nut collection, processing, and marketing. By doing so, we hope to enable them to become self-reliant and contribute to the development of their communities.

The project has already made significant progress. We have established partnerships with local Shea nut collectors and processors, and we are now setting up a processing plant to crush and press the nuts to extract the oil. We are also working with local women's groups to provide training on how to make high-quality Shea butter products that meet international standards.

We believe that this project will have a significant impact on the lives of the women involved and their families, as well as contribute to the economic development of the communities where the project is being implemented.

We would like to thank our partners, volunteers, and all those who have supported this initiative. We look forward to sharing more updates on the progress of the Shea butter project.

Sincerely,
ACT Representative

Women’s Sewing Machines Project:
Empowering women does not mean providing them with food aid.
It means creating for them lasting opportunities that will improve their financial freedom and a decision making ability. The whole world is aware that a greater number of women are locked up in they cycle of poverty with most young ones being forced into early marriages and remain in their homes as just housewives and Package waiting officers, they have no access to formal education and nor do they have access to any vocational skill training. ACT is implementing a women sewing machines project today that empowerment the women with skills that brings them financial support. Women’s world is complete when they realize their value within their families, homes, and communities.
As the second wave of Covid19 is back, let us consider wearing masks in public.
Protect yourself, your family and your community.
To support these women, just buy a mask they have made!!

Why Advocacy is the best answer to the current covid19 situation in South Sudan

There are many definitions for Advocacy but for our case, we shall defined as “taking a stand on an issue, and initiating actions in a deliberate attempt to influence private and public policy choice”. The COVID-19 pandemic is a global threat and the best way to mitigate and control the emerging of the infectious disease is to take a stand on its complex issues and initiates programs that will provide reliable and stress-free interventions. It is a disaster to the world. These are times of difficult choices. Between lockdown and reopening there is a difficulty in choosing one.

Advocacy should aim at promoting risk literacy. The term risk literacy is an important one. The idea is that part of the solution is having an informed public that can understand and appropriately interpret information on pandemics. Risk literacy, the ability to distinguish between different levels of risk severity is not only for policy makers. Effective response to natural disasters depends on individual people and how well they stay calm and follow instructions. The constant barrage of threats articulated by the media has led to chronic risk habituation.

The only way to break that logjam is for everyone to understand risk, to be able to assess the differences between different kinds of disasters, and to respond appropriately to them. Widespread risk literacy will help the public support the massive government and NGOs expenditures that will be needed to appropriately predict and prevent pandemics.

Gender-based violence increases during every type of emergency. Even before the outbreak, studies show 1/3 of all women and girls experience in their lifetime. This number means that someone around you; a family member, a co-worker, a friend, or even yourself, has experienced this type of abuse. This has to stop. We are keeping children lockdown, but do we really know what happens to them during this prolonged idling period?
We need them back in school and teach them how to practice hygiene regularly

Continue to stay safe by avoiding the three Cs

Avoid the 3️⃣ Cs.
There are certain places where COVID-19 spreads more easily:
1️⃣ Crowded places
2️⃣ Close-contact settings
3️⃣ Confined and enclosed spaces

The quote on the memorial states, "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to abundance of those who have much, but it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

This month is the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life to make sure people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Our new cover photo is of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorial in Washington D.C. Considering Roosevelt's disability, the memorial's designers created a memorial that is accessible to those with various physical impairments and an area with tactile reliefs with braille writing for people who are blind.

The quote on the memorial states, "The test of our progress is not is not whether we add more to abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

While it’s normally common for people to visit each other greeting frequently and staying close in groups. The COVID-19 outbreak has affected all aspects of our lives, including daily businesses and schools. We are all affected in our ways even though we are not tested positive of the virus.
