IT IS HOTTTT OUTSIDE!!!
Protecting skin with sunscreen is crucial for several reasons. Here are some of the most important reasons why:
Prevents Skin Cancer: UV rays from the sun and tanning beds can cause damage to skin cells, leading to skin cancer.
Reduces Risk of Premature Aging: UV rays can cause premature aging of the skin, including wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.
Prevents Hyperpigmentation: UV rays can cause hyperpigmentation, which is the appearance of dark spots or patches on the skin.
Reduces Risk of Actinic Keratoses: Actinic keratoses are small, rough patches on the skin that can develop into skin cancer.
Protects Skin from Environmental Damage: Sunscreen can also protect skin from environmental damage caused by pollution, smoke, and other airborne pollutants.
Reduces Risk of Eye Damage: UV rays can also damage the eyes, causing cataracts, macular degeneration, and eye irritation.
Here are some tips to help prevent damage from UV rays:
Clothing:
Wear protective clothing: Choose clothing that covers your skin, such as long-sleeved shirts, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat. Look for clothing with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating of 50+, which means the fabric will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV radiation to pass through.
Dress in light-colored and loose-fitting clothing: Light colors reflect UV rays, while loose-fitting clothes allow for better airflow and reduce the risk of heat stroke.
Sunscreen:
Apply sunscreen regularly: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Apply it 15-30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.
Don't forget often-overlooked areas: Apply sunscreen to your ears, nose, lips, and the tops of your feet.
Use lip balm with SPF: Protect your lips from UV rays by using a lip balm with SPF.
Hats and Accessories:
Wear a hat with a brim: at least 3 inches can protect your face, neck, and ears from UV rays.
Use sunglasses: Look for sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection.
Wear a scarf or bandana
Other Tips:
Seek shade: especially during peak sun hours (10am-4pm).
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and reduce the risk of heat exhaustion.
Check the UV index: Plan your outdoor activities according to the UV index, which is a measure of the sun's intensity.
Use window treatments: Keep curtains and blinds closed during peak sun hours to prevent UV rays from entering your home
Use UV-blocking windows: Consider installing UV-blocking windows or window films to reduce UV radiation entering your home.
Monitor children's exposure: Be mindful of children's exposure to UV rays, especially during peak sun hours.
Use umbrellas or canopies: Use umbrellas or canopies with built-in UV protection when spending
LIVE HEALTHY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO YOU!
WHAT IS THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF PREECLAMPSIA?
Abnormal placentation resulting in poorly developed uterine placental spiral arterioles (vessels), which decrease uteroplacental blood flow, and oxygen to placenta during late pregnancy. The consequences lead to damage of linings of other vessels throughout the body and organs of pregnant women, including that of the kidneys.
FURTHER SYMPTOMS
severe headaches
vision problems, such as blurring or seeing flashing lights
pain just below the ribs
vomiting
sudden swelling of the feet, ankles, face and hands
COMPLICATIONS
Without immediate treatment, pre-eclampsia may lead to a number of serious complications, including:
convulsions (eclampsia)
HELLP syndrome (a combined liver and blood clotting disorder)
stroke
This year, the World Preeclampsia Day theme is "Predict Prevent Prevail".
This theme highlights a few options besides a patient's medical and pregnancy history to help predict what patients may be at risk for preeclampsia. One preventive measure is to administer prenatal aspirin to high-risk patients in the hope of delaying or preventing the onset of preeclampsia.
Stay tuned on our page for risk factors of Preeclampsia, symptoms, other preventative methods, and complications of preeclampsia.
