We’re excited to announce that Wit Pimkanchanapong will unveil a new edition of his latest work, “Infinite Maze”, at the upcoming 𝘓𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦: 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘈𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 exhibition at Arts Maebashi, Gunma, Japan. Opening 21 September 2024!
“Infinite Maze”, originally exhibited in Planetary Seed ● จร ● 惑星的共自在性 at 100 Tonson Foundation, has been reimagined for the unique space at Arts Maebashi. The installation, a site-specific kinetic mechanism, has undergone a redesign to harmonize with the concept of 𝘓𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦. While materials have been adapted, the core identity of the piece—a maze that can morph without limits—remains preserved.
𝘓𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦: 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘈𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 is organized by Arts Maebashi, under the leadership of Executive Director Fumio Nanjo and Curator Yuka Takahashi. The exhibition showcases the diverse and dynamic cultural and social landscapes of Southeast Asia, featuring works by 12 groups of artists, including seven born after the 1980s. These artists reflect on the region’s rapid development, historical roots, and evolving lifestyles, addressing themes such as globalization, technology, and gender roles. Through their works, visitors can gain insights into the contradictions, chaos, hopes, and emerging possibilities of contemporary life in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Read more about the exhibition at: www.artsmaebashi.jp/en/?p=4648
If you’re in Japan or planning a visit, do not miss this show! 𝘓𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦 will be on view from September 21st to December 24th, 2024, at Arts Maebashi, located at 5-1-16 Chiyoda-machi, Maebashi, Gunma 371-0022, Japan.

This programme is ceaselessly evolving with our steps and the movements of the celestial bodies. What appears at every turn of this cavernous maze is a call of wisdom, a letter-like spirit that reaches us here and now, from all ages and places. It is believed that Terma awaits discovery by specific individuals following the passage of time. Terma is thought to remain concealed, emerging from deep underground, at the ocean‘s depths, amidst the skies, and at times, within our very minds. Here and now, we delve into these depths, receiving and weaving wisdom to be shared with celestial beings who have traversed countless aeons.

In August, 100 Tonson Foundation teamed up with living room for seed, Hajime Jyuku, and the SDG Lab by Thammasat & AIS, joining forces with artist Daisuke Nagaoka to create "The Sphere Boat", utilizing Thai Ram Pan mats and recycled materials.
Central to this collaboration was the SDG Lab by Thammasat & AIS, a pioneering initiative focused on promoting sustainable development across Asia. The lab serves as a hub for research, innovation, and practical solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with key areas including climate, city development, and sustainable farming. Through its efforts, the SDG Lab contributes to a more sustainable and equitable future.
Nagaoka Daisuke's artistic project, "The Sphere House," offers a thought-provoking exploration of how living in a spherical house could fundamentally alter human society. By delving into both the practical and philosophical implications of such a radical concept, Nagaoka seeks to redefine our understanding of home, possession, and community. Challenging conventional notions of housing and society, "The Sphere House" presents a compelling vision of a future where everyday life is characterized by dynamism, interdependence, and a renewed connection to the natural world.
Building upon the concepts of "The Sphere House," Nagaoka developed "The Sphere Boat," a vessel designed to be lived in, floated, and paddled, crafted with Thai Ram Pan mats and recycled materials. These materials, sourced from one-time-use food plastic containers from convenience stores, underscore the project's commitment to sustainability by repurposing everyday waste into a functional and artistic creation. "The Sphere Boat" was brought to completion with the dedicated help of volunteers from the Thammasat team, who contributed their time and skills to ensure the project’s success. This project also engaged children from Hajime Jyuku, inviting them to participate in the creation process and experience the Sphere Boat firsthand.
🛶 "The Sphere Boat" is now available for everyone to experience and to try paddling at Puey Ungphakorn Centenary Hall and Park, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus.

From August 25-26, 2024, children from Hajime Jyuku participated in a workshop in collaboration with the Moradokmai Theatre Community & Homeschool.
Moradok Mai is a distinctive alternative school within a community now based in Pathum Thani and Loei, Thailand. Founded by Chonprakan Junreung in 1997, the Moradok Mai Theatre Troupe offers a unique homeschooling program where performing arts are at the heart of learning. The program serves as a training center that nurtures students in blending traditional Thai theatre with modern practices and provides a space for artists to create and explore self-reliant living.
During the two-day, one-night workshop, children from Hajime Jyuku and Moradok Mai engaged in a cultural exchange that transcended language barriers. Through shared experiences in learning and living, the participants learned the traditional Thai performance of Khon, while Thai children also explored the Japanese Noh play. This exchange was not just about learning new art forms but also about understanding and appreciating each other's values and ways of life.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff from Moradok Mai for facilitating this enriching experience. A special note of gratitude to Hasegawa Haruhiko, a Noh expert who traveled from Japan to contribute to this remarkable workshop. 🙏🏻❤️ 🇹🇭🇯🇵

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Noh Play (能) performed by the children from Hajime Jyuku last weekend. 🙏🏼🌸 Their unique interpretation of this traditional Japanese theatrical art form, which blends dance, music, and drama to convey profound stories and emotions, truly captivated us all!
As part of the Planetary Seed exhibition, the performance featured five acts, beginning with 𝐎𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮 (老松), a song celebrating peace through the symbolism of a sacred old pine tree. The journey continued with:
𝐖𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢 (和田酒盛) – a festive tribute to samurai Wada Sakamori
𝐊𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐠𝐚 (小袖曾我) – the tale of the Soga brothers, embodying the spirit of youth and family honor
𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐮𝐛𝐮𝐣𝐢𝐦𝐚 (竹生島) – a heroic dance of the dragon god stirring the waves
𝐇𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨 (羽衣) – a graceful depiction of a celestial being flying through the sky
For many, this was the first encounter with Noh, and we are so grateful that you could share this experience with us.
At Hajime Jyuku, Noh is an integral part of daily life. This year’s program, presented in collaboration with Planetary Seed ● จร ● 惑星的共自在性 by Wit Pimkanchanapong and living room for seed, was performed in front of a 𝐊𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐈𝐭𝐚 (鏡板) that the children painted themselves during the "Making Mirror Board" workshop. This lesson started with drawings they practiced in Japan and was finally brought to life in the gallery space within the multi-dimensional maze.
The 𝐊𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐈𝐭𝐚 is a large lining board at the front of the Noh stage, traditionally featuring a painted old pine tree (Oimatsu), which symbolizes longevity and strength. In Noh, this tree is believed to connect our world with the spirit world, adding a touch of magic to the performance.
Now, all that energy has been poured into the pine tree at 100 Tonson Foundation. 🌲🌲🌲 Thank you again for being part of this memorable event!

100 Tonson Foundation extends our sincere gratitude to all participants of our วันเพ็ญ (Full Moon) Meditation Walk on Monday evening, a major Buddhist holy day this month! Thank you for joining us on a journey through and within the multi-dimensional maze created by Wit Pimkanchanapong in the Planetary Seed ● จร ● 惑星的共自在性 exhibition.
It was a special evening of mindfulness, self-awareness, and spatial exploration. We hope this event provided a unique experience of engaging with contemporary art while exploring the kinetic art installation and the storytelling of the Mekong River in Planetary Seed's Phase II, Naga.
We are deeply grateful to Phra Itthiyawat Chotipanyo, Phra Suksan Supatto, Phramaha Ty Issaradhammo, Ph.D., and Pavin Visetsiri for guiding us through the meditation, and to สติ Space and หอจดหมายเหตุพุทธทาส อินทปัญโญ - สวนโมกข์กรุงเทพ Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives for collaborating with us.

Planetary Seed ● Phase II Naga 🐍
NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Today - 24 November 2024
In the second phase of Planetary Seed ● จร ● 惑星的共自在性, Wit Pimkanchanapong expands the scope of a dynamic and ever-changing maze into a sub-gallery space by inviting eight artists, including Chutinun Mora, Naruechit Sunthornsanan, Noppanan Thannaree, Nino Sarabutra, Polpich Komson, Sathok Tunyapakornsiri, Som Supaparinya, and Watchara Pipattanapaiboon, to exhibit photographs, paintings, and writings that narrate stories, landscapes, and various aspects of existence along the Mekong River within the maze.
The generated pathway continually changes scenery and experience. Each movement of the maze alters the terrain of storytelling and offers an unpredictable perspective on the individual works, much like the physical geography of the Mekong River, which moves and morphs as if it were alive, transforming with every interaction.
📌 Software Update: Labyrinth Mode
In addition to the individual works integrated into Phase II Naga, Maze No. 4 has also been modified. Labyrinth Mode will activate on every Buddhist holy day, transforming the maze from a complex structure into a non-junction labyrinth without dead ends, making it suitable for a meditative walk. The first activation will take place on Monday, 19 August 2024, a major Buddhist holy day of this month.
