We’re thrilled that YKK AP showroom has been selected by Demark Awards as a winner to be displayed during Bangkok Design Week 2024. The design elevates humble fenestration frames as works of precision and craftsmanship. The space utilisation has been thoroughly enhanced by the renovation to allow multiple flexible layout and uses. The whole design from the ground up has been envisaged with visitor experience at heart. Look out for Demark display during this weekend.

Last of the 3 part series looking into CC’s newly completed project in Shanghai. If you’ve missed the first 2 please scroll back to check them out. This week we examine the minute scale, looking at materiality, texture and wayfinding for the visually impaired. The use of different floor materials; soft and hard, allows fully blind students to identify their position. Floor colours along storage cabinets or in front of the central teaching table provide cues for low vision students, communicating different spatial functions. Within the cabinet, information strips aid students to identify orientation and category of the equipment stored. Braille and 3D printed icons will further enhance this experience. The project design makes use of the research and development garnered from the first Classroom Makeover for the Blind project in Pattaya and adapted to suit the context of this project.

Today we are sharing part 2 of a 3 part series looking into CC’s newly completed project in Shanghai. The rooms used to house learning equipment at the Shanghai Blind School were transformed from mere store rooms, having now been given new life and are not only utilised for teaching but also for exhibition. Interactive lightings in the bio specimens room are curated into groups, based on different species, that more resembles a museum display rather than simply for archival storage purposes. The general learning equipment room has dual functions. The existing large architectural models are stored under new cabinets with motorised raising platforms. This created larger learning spaces for students when the models are not in use. Stay tuned for part 3.

CC’s innovative corridor interactive wall design at Shanghai Blind School invites students to engage in a multi-sensory experience. By utilising recycled drink bottle caps, the project not only contribute to sustainability but also encourages students to embark on a journey of physical and cognitive development. Different colors and braille formations on the wall empower low vision students to exercise and learn, through interactivity and fun.

Environmental graphic design is a vital, but often taken for granted, part of any given project. For AIA East Gateway, our team worked on the main project logo as well as wayfinding signs to ensure all aspects of the project had a tangible connection and a single identity. This extends to the custom created sculpture commissioned by the client designed by Creative Crews in close collaboration with artist D**g Sculpture. The three dimensional manifestation of the AIA East Gateway logo, hints gracefully of its belonging to the greater development by AIA, creates a focal point of the project.

Seoul Design Awards
CC director Ekkachan Eiamannanwattana represented the practice as one amongst winners of Seoul Design Awards. In a forum hosted by Korean Sweetheart Alberto Mondi who in addition to Ekkachan, interviewed Designboom’s Birgit Lohmann and Korean Designer Jerry Bags. Classroom Makeover for the Blind was an inspirational project of many collaborations. It’s success and recognition abroad, we dedicate to the team and the children at Pattaya Redemptorist School for the Blind.

CC directors joined year 3 and 4 Semester 1 Final reviews at INDA, Chulalongkorn University. Song Xiaoxing joined studio director Alexandra Polyakova under the brief, Microcosm. Whilst Puiphai Khunawat joined studio director Chutayaves Sinthuphan under the brief, Amphibious Bangkok. There were many inspired designs and works of great depth. Both jurors were impressed by the quality of output by the studios this year.

This year the World Architecture Festival will take place at the iconic Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Ekkachan Eiamannanwattana has been invited as a judge for the 3rd year running. This year's programme theme is 'Catalyst'. Architecture and design can be catalysts for beneficial change, just as we believe that the experience from judging at WAF, learning from the best and latest of our peers, can be transferred through our studio teachings at various universities in Thailand. We hope to continue to be a catalyst of professional growth for newer generations.

Last week CC joined two award ceremonies. Both events were joyous opportunities sharing acknowledgement of the professionalism and dedication of our team. CC was awarded Top Ten Architects 2023 by BCI Asia. We were honoured to be among other top professional firms in our industry. On the same night at Thailand Property Award by Property Guru, our projects AIA East Gateway was awarded Best Well Being Development and AIA Connect was highly commended for Architectural Design.
We would like to thank all our clients and consultants for their trust and support throughout the year. We are looking forward to more collaborations in the years to come.

CC director met with H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK attended the opening ceremony of Seoul Design Week 2023. His Excellency was acutely aware of the social impact these projects made domestically in Thailand and the international stage. We thank the opportunity given by Seoul Design Award that CC is able to present the Classroom Makeover for the Blind to a wider group of public.

CC joined the ceremony at the Seoul Design Conference in the Korean Capital. It is a pleasure to have received the Best of the Best for Classroom Makeover for the Blind from Seoul Design Award, and we are honoured to have the opportunity to share our design experience to the public.

Our recent works on the future of workspace and the showroom for high performance frames have garnered high praises. Thank you Good Design and Demark awards for recognising our work. CC is proud to have received three wins from two projects.

Befitting of the media giant, the unofficial brief for Plan B HQ was providing the best quality of life in the most instagram worthy way.

Part of the ample office facilities is this expansive floor with multiple gyms, swimming pool, and a small sky garden. The co-working spaces are treated as floating boxes overlooking the indoor pool. Lighing and surface reflections from glazing to the water surface provide added dimensions to the space. The spatial arrangement encourages internal connections between activities promoting cohesion, all the while providing a panoramic view of the city.

Drawing from the vibrance energy of siam walking street. The dynamism is reflected in two rational boxes leaning inwards and outwards. Block I is where it's at. Take a stroll in the hip area this weekend and take in the vibes.

DEmark Award Ceremony 2023
On September 4th, 2023 - CC director joined the Demark Award Ceremony to receive awards from Mr.Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General Department of International Trade Promotion. Our project YKK AP Showroom renovation has won the Interior Design Category, claiming 1 of the 7 prizes in the category, from seven design
categories.

Puiphai Khunawat welcomed friends from IDIN & Anonym and led a tour of AIA East Gateway this Monday. The mixed used tower project is LEED and WELL certified gold, that offer “A Harmony of Work, Wellbeing and Sustainability”. The day was a great success, thank you all for coming along for the ride.

Our director Song Xiaoxing has joined the international forum ‘Thailand International Hotel and Commercial Space Expo’ at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center today. During which she presented our projects in Bangkok urban context, and exchanged opinions with designers, planners and clients on our profession’s future integration with AI.

It’s a big topic but we are definitely looking forward to what is to come!

SHANGHAI NANYANG SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOL CLASSROOMS RENOVATION
Currently under construction in Shanghai city centre. Converted from a primary school, the Special Education School provides specialised education for students who have intellectual impairments and disabilities other than blindness or deafness. CC is designing five special classrooms to elevate the existing facilities providing a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for students with diverse learning needs. Stay tuned for more on this project over the next few months.
