CR3 recently completed a potentially challenging welding on live equipment (WOLE) project on a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit at the world's largest refinery in Jamnagar, India.

The project consisted of welding a stainless-steel jacket around a branch line coming out of a large hot flue gas main header line, operating at a temperature of more than 700°C.

Welding on live equipment is necessary when shutting down the equipment is not feasible due to operational requirements or significant downtime costs. In such cases, specialised procedures and safety precautions are implemented to ensure the safety of workers and prevent accidents or damage to the equipment.

Due to the extreme working conditions and limited access, the CR3 welding technician wore specialised personal protective equipment, including an ice jacket and executed the welding using the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) technique.

At CR3, safety is paramount with every project we undertake; during this project, the welder was accompanied by a support team who assisted him with his protective equipment and supplied him with fluids to maintain his hydration.

The welding was completed safely and on schedule, much to the client's satisfaction, who commended the safe working practices and competencies displayed by CR3 throughout.

CR3 recently completed a challenging project to ensure a heat exchanger was thoroughly cleaned at a client's fibre production plant in Patalganga, India.

The unit, which had a weight exceeding 6 tonnes and a length of 4 meters, was housed within a tightly congested section of the plant, rendering it inaccessible for maintenance. CR3 removed the unit from its base and transported it 50 meters across the plant using steel rollers. A mobile crane was then used to move the exchanger to an open area for easier access.

Our teams used a specialist chemical process to clean the heat exchanger before transporting it back to its original location and securing it in place.

Thanks to the expertise and dedication shown by the CR3 teams, the project was completed with the utmost precision and without any incident. CR3's methodical pre-planning, combined with an efficient startup process, was acknowledged by the client's site president, who conveyed the company's appreciation for a project perfectly executed.

CR3 has recently completed an ARDS catalyst change-out on four reactors at a refinery complex in Pengerang, Malaysia. The project is part of a long-term contract with the refinery operator that also sees CR3 undertaking the entire management and disposal of the spent catalyst.

The change-out of the four reactors was carried out using CR3’s unique Eco-Hydrodrilling technology; this was the first time the technology had been used in Malaysia. Eco-Hydrodrilling combines drilling with high-pressure water jetting to unload heavily fused catalysts and is a safer and faster alternative to traditional methods.

This sustainable solution uses substantially less water than other techniques as it treats and recycles the water in a proprietary closed-loop system. Due to the efficiency and effectiveness of Eco-Hydrodrilling, catalyst replacement schedules are significantly reduced, allowing the change-out duration to be guaranteed and generating significant returns for operators.

Catalyst handling technicians and other skilled personnel from CR3 worked in conjunction with the client to execute the change-outs within the expected schedule. CR3 will perform several more catalyst change-outs for the refinery in the coming year.

The CR3 office in India was once again filled with vibrant colours as our teams celebrated Diwali.

Diwali, The Festival of Lights, is a major Hindu celebration symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. It lasts five days and involves lighting Diyas, festive decorations, family gatherings, and fireworks. The festival promotes reflection, unity, and joy within communities.

The Mumbai office became a canvas for creativity, with all teams contributing to the festive decorations. Every desk was decorated with traditional Diyas, while the entrance to the offices welcomed visitors with vibrantly designed Rangoli’s.

Our teams wore traditional Indian attire bursting with colours, such as Sarees, Kurta Pajamas and Sherwanis.

The Diwali event was a great success, celebrating our cultural diversity and helping to create a work environment filled with positivity and camaraderie.

Representatives from CR3 recently hosted a client meeting in Abu Dhabi for one of the world’s largest oil producers.

The meeting aimed to introduce the client to CR3’s Eco-Hydrodrilling technology and explain how this innovative solution is quickly becoming the preferred choice by refinery operators worldwide for catalyst handling in ARDS reactors.

Ravikumar Delhibabu, Business Development Manager and Catalyst Handling Division Project Manager, Callum Smith, gave a presentation on how Eco-Hydrodrilling’s combination of drilling and hydro-blasting removes virtually all of the fused catalyst in a reactor, reducing the need for personnel to enter the vessel, resulting in a safer alternative to conventional methods.

The presentation also highlighted the green aspects of the process, as Eco-Hydrodrilling uses a proprietary closed-loop system that treats and recycles the water for further use, significantly reducing the amount of water needed.

The meeting proved to be a resounding success, and CR3 has invited the client to visit one of our many Eco-Hydrodrilling projects in Asia.

Our teams in India recently celebrated the Hindu festival of Navaratri, including the observance of Ayudha Puja and Dussehra.

Navaratri is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights and is dedicated to worshipping the goddess Durga. During this festival, people engage in various rituals and cultural activities.

During Ayudha Puja, people traditionally worship and bless their tools, vehicles, and instruments as a mark of gratitude for their role in their livelihoods.

Dussehra, celebrated on the tenth day, marks Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, the king of Lanka and carries significant cultural and religious importance, promoting the values of righteousness and truth.

CR3 teams at our Mangalore facility all got involved in the celebrations, adorning the offices and yards with bright, colourful decorations to truly embrace the spirit of Ayudha Pooja. A selection of tools was placed on the altar, followed by the chanting of Mantras per the Shastras and Vidhan.

It was a similarly colourful celebration at our head office in Navi Mumbai, with many employees wearing traditional Indian dress and performing dances such as Garba and Dandiya Raas.

The festival was enjoyed by everyone and highlighted the strength of our cultural richness and social inclusivity.
