💚 This mixed drink is more than 500 years old.

💛 Pirates may have played a part in its creation.
Sir Francis Drake was known to the Spanish as a ruthless pirate El Draque. A mojito-like drink is said to have been invented by him. The cocktail was called El Draque and had aguardiente (early rum), sugar, lime and mint. When the aguadiente was replaced with rum, the mojito as we know it today was born.

💚 But the origin of the name tells a different story.
“Mojo” means a magic charm or talisman. It likely has roots in some African language.

💛 Ernest Hemingway loved mojito. While spending time in Cuba, the writer used to visit La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, a bar that claimed to have invented the modern-day mojito. Hemingway picked up the drink and spread its popularity.

💚 James Bond helped make mojito even more popular. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond enjoys a mojito in the 2002 movie Die Another Day.

Classical recipe was created in 1980s and had the original names “Sand in your shorts” and “Fun on the beach”.

Later the drink was renamed into “Sex On the Beach”. It became extremely popular due to the American TV series “Santa Barbara” where the characters used to drink this refreshing cocktail.
