Na época de sua construção, a República de Gênova, uma república marítima da costa noroeste da Itália, dominava a cidade, e foram os genovês que construíram a torre no ano de 1348. A galata Tower foi o prédio mais alto da Turquia por séculos. Do topo da torre você enxega o estreito de bósforo que separa a Europa da Ásia, diversas mesquitas entre elas as famosas Hagia Shopia e a mesquita Azul que ficam na antiga Constantinopla, hoje o bairro de Sulthanamed. Passeio imperdível em istambul.
