MOMS NEED YOGA TOO 🧘🏾‍♀️

This long-standing client was gifted private sessions by her hubby to help her cultivate more rest, calm, ease and balance in her new roles as mother and full time professional. He knows the impact yoga has had on her life, after all she introduced him to it and to our yoga studio. 😊

We approached each session with the understanding that there was no judgment, no need to get it right and most of all she could relax and let us take over for an hour. It has been a pleasure to be her guide during the changes over the years. 🙏🏽

YOGA FOR FIBROMYALGIA

We asked our client to give us a review after we saw the significant improvement in her ability to move through her sessions and her marked improvement in mood and energy. She laughed more, recovered faster and was just happier! When she walked into our doors, she was in acute pain and emotionally exhausted. Her 1 month program consisted of 2 sessions per week of therapeutic yoga, lots of breathing and mindfulness exercises, yoga nidra and reiki.

Read below to hear in her own words how she has seen the results of yoga therapy to heal and manage her pain in just 1 month! We are extremely pleased with her progress so far!

“Like many of us, when it comes to physical activity, I struggle with finding a balance between doing too much and too little. This is particularly difficult in the face of the chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain caused by my fibromyalgia. Of course stress does not help, and my emotional and mental state inevitably impacts my physical pain. Pain is not only frustrating but extremely exhausting.

Ahimsa Wellness Yoga Therapy and Reiki Center is now a bright spot in my journey to "Sweet Relief" in restoring a healthy mind, body and spirit. After just a month of twice weekly yoga practice with a very revealing Reiki session, I am now experiencing significantly less pain, greater mindfulness and energy. I am grateful and truly excited about the results and this process of regaining balance in a holistic way. All the feels this evening for our beautiful yoga mama. This was only her second class and she has already noticed the increased flexibility and overall relaxation in her body. Baby enjoyed the yoga class too and gave us a few poses 😅🤰🏽

First we heal the inside so we can shine on the outside! She is so dedicated to her practice and doing the yoga work off the mat.

On Tuesday I challenged her to try this pose with the strap, she said I think I can do it without the strap AND THAT SHE DID! Look at that smile y’all!

Self doubt and anxiety can disappear when you’re on your mat and all that emerges are smiles and confidence.

“I feel so light and free…my mind isn’t loud anymore…”

This was the feedback from one of our teen clients who has been struggling with the effects of being isolated since the pandemic and not being able to spend time with persons in the same age group.

A lot of mental energy being used up, a lot of social media consumption and not enough interaction away from stimulation. One hr of yoga and breathing can shift your teen who might be feeling anxious about life right now into a calmer and more hopeful mindset.

In an attempt to help relieve pressure on the NHS, an increasing number of doctors are offering ‘social prescriptions’ rather than medication, in order to treat people throughout the UK.

Recognising that health is often determined by a complex range of social, economic and environmental factors, social prescribing is the process where GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals can refer people to a range of activities. These often include befriending, group learning, gardening, volunteering, arts activities, cookery, healthy eating advice and yoga.

Social prescribing seeks to address people’s needs in a holistic way, and the hope is that it will not only empower people to take greater control of their health, but will enable them to live happier, healthier lives. One review of studies on social prescribing showed that on average, it was associated with:

28% fall in visits to a GP
24% drop in attendance at emergency wards

Tackling the epidemic of lifestyle-related disease and the social determinants of health lie at the heart of social prescribing. One common prescription is for more exercise, and the other is for mental health – and yoga is increasingly being viewed as a viable social prescription that can address both physical and mental wellbeing.

10 minutes of meditation per day can have a positive impact on your mental health by taking you away from our technology driven culture and replacing it with a mindful pause.

Come to sit in a comfortable position in a quiet setting and start by scanning the body and asking the body to relax the muscles, mindfully slow down the breath, drop the shoulders and relax the face. Lastly start thinning out the mental distractions. See yourself placing your thoughts in boxes as though they were objects. And placing the boxes on a shelf.

Drive your attention now to your breath. Count your inhales to 4 - hold for 4 - release that breath to 1. Repeat as many times as needed.

In just 10 minutes you can hold on to some peace for the day and give yourself a much needed mental health break. Try this exercise and let us know how you felt after.

Working from home over the last 2 years has created a new at-home work environment that we’re not accustomed to. The emails keep rolling in, sleep hours may have been reduced and added to that - commitments at home!

It’s not surprising the sharp increase in feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and exhaustion.

We all know adopting a yoga practice helps BUT how do you start?

Switch your devices off, find a quiet space and come into child’s pose (demonstrated in the video). Use as many pillows as you need under your knees, with hands outstretched or under your forehead stay there for 4 breaths, then 6 , then 8.

Yoga allows the mind, breath and body to move in union - reducing stress levels and building resilience.
