Today, the 20th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum opened in Guyana with welcome remarks by the CTU's Secretary-General Mr. Rodney Taylor and a feature address by Mr. Andre Griffith of the Telecommunications Agency, Guyana. Starting on 21 August 2024, we are just days away from the 20th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum, the longest-running Internet Governance Forum in the world!

With Nigel Cassimire, the Deputy Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and Coordinator of the Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (CIGF), we get an update on the Internet Governance space and the CIGF. During our conversation with Nigel, he shared:

* how Internet Governance and the conversations on IG have been evolving;

* the most prominent or topical issues in the IG space currently;

* the likely focus areas of the upcoming CIGF; and

* whether there are any specific issues the Caribbean region ought to be focusing on.

A multi stakeholder collaboration brought The inaugural School of Digital Transformation and Innovation in the English-speaking Caribbean. Held at the CTU’s training room at its headquarters, the partners hosted an evening reception there to welcome the participants.

The School of Digital Transformation and Innovation opened with remarks from Secretary-General Rodney Taylor and other officials from ECLAC Caribbean, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), UWI St. Augustine, LACNIC and Cetic.br.

Representatives from across the will be participating in this week-long program which will facilitate inter-sectoral dialogue on the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation and innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The CTU is pleased to support the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in hosting its Caribbean Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Capacity Development and Operational Readiness Workshop in Support of Early Warnings for All.

Hosted at the CTU's headquarters in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the workshop is taking place from the 5th - 9th August 2024. Participants from 13 countries from across the region are represented at this meeting. The CMO, the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) and the University of the West Indies St Augustine (UWI) are also in attendance.

The CMO is part of the CTU Spectrum Management Task Force.
