🛶Sunday funs with Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Lemonade, and Laughs
We started our day with a big brunch to refuel our bodies. Afterwards, we jumped into an expedited lesson, where we had a special guest: Mercedes Benz. As we headed off to our three activities, we remembered to bring our water bottles and stay hydrated on this very hot day. During football, we practiced various catching and throwing techniques and then applied these skills in an intense game that saw bodies flying and balls dropping. To be brave was one thing, but to be a warrior was another; these kids battled each other with heart, and when the dust settled, they headed to play ultimate frisbee.
The students dodged and tumbled as frisbees sliced through the air, keeping everyone on edge as they received the crackling throws. Discs were thrown back and forth like saucers, but in the end, there could only be one winner, and the champs were crowned. Next, it was time to cool off, so the kids got into their canoes and paddled away, engaging in joyful water fights.
With energy expended, the crew headed to Denny’s for mouthwatering chicken strips, fish and chips, and brisket sandwiches. The troops then marched to their final location of the day, where we relaxed and watched the skillful performance of improvisers. We crackled laughing the night away and returned to campus to rest our bones for another eventful day.
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 17: Sadly the 17th was our last day at the campsite. Campers were efficient taking down their tents, rolling up their sleeping bags, and packing up their bags to head back to the big city! Brunch was served before the fun bus ride back to SAIT which included bus games and snacks to pass the time. Being back in Calgary was exciting but the calm and quiet of the wilderness was missed!
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 16: Today it was the horseback riding groups’ turn for their big adventure while the ice fields crew participated in the competitive camp olympics.
After breakfast, the horse crew loaded the bus on our way to Banff National park which houses Lake Louise and our horse friends! As if the scenic drive towards Banff wasn’t rewarding enough with all the views, lake Louise stunned campers with its beauty.
Lunch and views were served upon arriving at the lake featuring appetizers, sausages and lots of snacks while taking in the scenery.
After lunch, the horses at the lake Louise stables were waiting for us to ride with them. We embarked on a wonderful trail through lush forests, rivers, and roads overlooking lake Louise with our horse companions and tour guide leading the way. A special bond was formed between the campers and horses, making saying goodbye tough!
However, we didn’t need to say goodbye to lake Lousie just yet, as we had time to relax by the lake and enjoy its beauty some more before heading to our next stop of the day: Banff!
Banff was another hit with campers as we walked through the stunning town on our way to a delicious supper. Following our supper, it was time to head back to our campsite to sleep and recharge our bodies before another big day!
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 15: On this eventful day, half of our campers chose to attend the ice fields while the others stayed at camp and would be participating in horseback riding the following day. Therefore, those not attending the icefields, were engaged in friendly competition at the campsite while playing camp Olympics. Games included a water gun fight, archery, tug-a-war, and a three-legged race with campers working hard to bring home the gold medal for their team!
Meanwhile, the ice fields crew hopped on the bus towards Jasper National Park where the Athabasca Glacier and Columbia Icefields are located. Our drive was a scenic route through mountains and lakes as far as the eye could see, with beautiful views at every turn.
Once we made it to the park, we barbecued sausages and had an assortment of snacks and desserts while excitement loomed for our tour of the ice field. The wait was certainly worth it as we got on our tour bus which took us to the ice explorer vehicles that would take us through the ice field. The ice explorers at the ice fields are one-of-a-kind vehicles that are only permanently stationed in Canada and Antarctica. The wheels of these vehicles were taller than some of our campers!
As the tour began, we were met with views of rock slides, the glacier, and of course, the icefield. Our enthusiastic tour guide informed us about the Indigenous origins of the ice field and just how large it is! we eventually made it to a special spot on the ice where we had the opportunity to disembark from the ice explorer and explore the ice field for ourselves! We enjoyed fresh water from the glacier and gave our face a wash which is coined a “glacial facial”. This was many of our campers first time seeing snow and ice making it an unforgettable experience with friends as we soaked everything in while playing in the snow and ice! We wished we could have stayed forever, but as the tour drew to an end, we climbed back into the ice explorer to take us back to the park as the gift shop was waiting for us! Many souvenirs were purchased to remind us of the special day we had altogether!
On our way back to our campsite, a surprise stop at Peyto lake was in store for our campers! We jumped off our bus and took a short walk to the viewing platform with Peyto lake below, with its signature light-blue waters and mountain backdrop making for a perfect photo opportunity!
However, the day was not over yet! For dinner, we stopped in iconic Banff, which is a famous, picturesque mountain town. Bellies were filled with chicken and French fries then we got back on the bus for our last time of the day, to get a good nights sleep under the stars at our campsite.
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 14: A day trip to Canmore was on the schedule today!
Hopping on the school bus after breakfast towards the town of Canmore was exciting, as we were gifted with beautiful views on our way to the aquatic centre in the town. Excitement was brewing to go swimming and the excitement never dissipated as laughter was all that was heard throughout the pool as campers enjoyed the wave pool, lane swimming, and playing water basketball. Sadly we couldn’t stay all day, so we jumped out of the pool and headed to a scenic park for lunch. After eating, campers had the opportunity to play in the park on the playground equipment or on the soccer field. You couldn’t go wrong with either option!
Upon returning back to camp, supper was prepared with the help from campers, which was greatly appreciated throughout the week! Following supper, guided walks were given around the expansive campsite, to explore the rivers on the outskirts of our campsite and the forests with squirrels, marmots, and more before heading to sleep!
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 12: Waking up to the magnificent views of the mountains will never get old! We started the day off with blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes before playing soccer and volleyball in the expansive green space at our campsite. Following these activities, everyone took on the challenge of hiking at Rawson lake! The trail up the mountain was filled with laughter and chatting, which eventually brought us to a lookout over looking the lake. Lunch was served at the top of the mountain along with refreshing water and juice which refuelled our bodies for the hike back down! After taking in more of the views on the way down and relaxing by the lake after our big hike, we made our way back to our campsite to rest, prepare supper and to get a good sleep.
🇨🇦⛺️Happy Campers! A week of camping in Kananaskis
July 11: Leaving Calgary in the afternoon, our camping adventure began with our fun bus ride to Kananaskis country, which involved breathtaking views of the mountains and wildlife, which led us to our beautiful group campsite. After pitching our tents that all featured views of the mountains and rivers, campers were welcomed to the area by a lovely summer sunset after dinner and before bed.
Rocky Mountain Road Trip: Head Smash, Frank's Slide, and Lundbreck Falls Adventure!
The kids had their usual fun meal in their morning breakfast rooms. Today's first trip of the day was to the Head- Smashed- In Buffalo Jump, where the students learned that It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved buffalo jump sites in North America. The students took a nice hike in the cool breeze and enjoyed the scenery, whilst taking lots of photos. After our walk, the students made their own sandwiches for lunch with lots of lunch meats such as Ham, Roast Beef, Salmon, Turkey, veggies and juice! After lunch, we went Lundbreck Falls where the students got to hike around and dip their bodies in the water. The students had a blast cooling off and lots of smiles all around. Once the students were well rested, we were on our way to Frank's Slide, where students learned about the mountain slide that wiped out a whole town. Many students conquered their fears and checked off their bucket list to climb up the rocks to the top of the mountain. Lastly, we all had supper eating Sausages, Salads, Cheese and Crackers, fruits and Juice at Chain Lakes and with some active activities playing volleyball, soccer and football!

Drumheller, the Dinosaur Capital of Canada!
Today was an absolutely thrilling day filled with an abundance of adventure and breathtaking scenery. Our day started with a visit to the Calgary Stampede breakfast at Market Hill. The students were treated to a delightful feast, consisting of fluffy pancakes, sizzling sausage, perfectly scrambled eggs, and refreshing bottled water. The lively atmosphere was complemented by wonderful live music, making the breakfast experience truly unforgettable. The students thoroughly relished every moment of this special morning.
Following the breakfast, we returned to SAIT for an engaging lesson, during which many students had the opportunity to unleash their creativity by crafting their very own dinosaurs. This activity set the perfect tone for the day's upcoming adventures. We then headed to the SAIT cafeteria and savoured a delicious lunch prepared by the talented culinary students. The culinary delights left everyone thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
With lunch concluded, we eagerly prepared for our much-anticipated expedition. Our journey took us to the charming town of Drumheller, situated northeast of Calgary. Known for its remarkable badlands, Dinosaur Provincial Park, and the renowned World's Largest Dinosaur, Drumheller is widely recognized as the dinosaur capital of Canada.
Our day of exploration kicked off at the magnificent Horseshoe Canyon. The students revelled in laughter and exhilaration as they navigated and conquered the canyon's imposing terrain. After our invigorating hike, we treated ourselves to refreshing watermelon slices and cold water to quench our thirst.
Before bidding farewell to Horseshoe Canyon, the students had the opportunity to choose between visiting the Royal Tyrrell Museum or enjoying the attractions of the Rotary Spray Park. Some were captivated by the fascinating displays of prehistoric relics and dinosaur bones at the museum, while others indulged in sports and water activities at the park.
As the evening approached, we gathered to enjoy a scrumptious feast comprising delicious burgers, fresh fruits, and invigorating salads, thoughtfully prepared by our dedicated teachers and Roland, our camp director. The students eagerly savoured the delightful meal and then transitioned into an exciting game of volleyball. Laughter and joy filled the air as the game unfolded, creating unforgettable memories for all.

Scaling Heights and River Rapids: A Day of Adventure at Wynchemna!
On July 8, Wynchemna was a jampacked day for all 30 students. Starting bright and early with a hearty breakfast of cereal, yogurt, granola, toast, bagels, and Eggo waffles, we geared up for an adventure-packed day ahead.
After breakfast, we gathered and boarded the bus, heading to the Calgary Climbing Club. Here, we received a comprehensive lesson on rock climbing safety and techniques. Scaling the Rockwall, many of us challenged ourselves to reach the summit, discovering newfound confidence and honing our communication skills as we encouraged each other from below. We also had an exciting lesson on golfing from Roland. We got to practice our new golfing skills lots while enjoying the heat.
Returning to SAIT for lunch at the tower, we indulged in a variety of delicious options including chicken, pasta salad, coleslaw, and rice crispy treats, replenishing our energy for the afternoon's activities. A brief recharge period prepared us for our next adventure at Elbow River, where we embarked on a kayak lesson and ventured into the refreshing waters. With the sun blazing, kayaking provided a welcome cool-down, followed by an energetic game of baseball on the riverbank. Learning to swing, catch and everything in-between!
As the day wound down, we headed to Denny's for a well-deserved dinner. The menu offered tantalizing choices such as pancakes, crispy chicken sandwiches, California club sandwiches, and cheeseburgers, satisfying our appetites after a day filled with physical activity.
After dinner, we returned to campus for evening lessons, where we reflected on the day's experiences and continued to build upon our newfound skills. Recognizing outstanding effort and positivity, Peyton was celebrated as the Student of the Day, embodying the spirit of curiosity and growth that defines Wynchemna.
This day at Wynchemna was not only about outdoor adventures and delicious meals but also about personal growth and camaraderie. Each activity challenged us to communicate effectively, step out of our comfort zones, and support one another, fostering bonds that will last beyond our time together in Calgary. As we look forward to the days ahead, we carry with us the lessons learned today and the memories created as a unified group of learners and adventurers
Twinkling Day of Tent Games!!!
We started today with a good breakfast of cereal, eggs, bacon, and toast. We then began lessons that included Caribbean Culture, Acrostic Poems about Stampede, Tongue Twisters, Persuasive Letters, and many more. Likewise, we then went to lunch at the SAIT cafeteria where we pulled pork, potatoes, cauliflower, and delicious rice. We went back to have our last lesson of the day, then we met in the common area where we got into our tent groups for our upcoming camping trip. In these groups, we made t-shirts, a song, and a poster all based on our group names. The groups included hedgehogs, crocodiles, penguins, zebras, flamingos, elephants, pandas, lions, rhinos, and sharks. After we finished making t-shirts for each group member and personalizing them, we moved outside for tent games. Those games included tug of war, sponge race, Oreo challenge, bat-spinning race, and the balloon race. Then we ate some fantastic pizza that was needed after such a fun-filled day before we practised setting up tents. We then had a dun water balloon fight where we ended up all soaked with smiles on our faces. We ended the day by turning in for an early night ready for another day of fun!
Calgary Stampede... Yahoo!!!
Today began with a delightful and energizing breakfast featuring a variety of cereals, crisp toast, refreshing orange juice, and wholesome milk. After breakfast, we eagerly gathered onto the bus, where we filled the air with cheerful tunes on our way to the Calgary Stampede. The day unfolded with thrilling adventures as we ventured onto an array of exhilarating rides, including the Swing Tower, Orbiter, and the heart-pounding Drop of Doom. We also had the opportunity to witness captivating performances such as the Rodeo, an awe-inspiring circus, and thrilling dirtbike stunts. Despite the scorching heat in Calgary, the kids revelled in every moment and thoroughly relished the experience.
Later in the day, we travelled back to SAIT on the LRT and were treated to a delectable supper consisting of comforting lasagne, fresh salad, and fragrant garlic bread. The flavours were absolutely divine, and it was a delightful way to refuel after a day full of excitement.
At the end of this amazing day, we had exciting lessons where we discussed our favourite part of the Calgary Stampede, did some drawing, and played some outdoor soccer games! Also, we celebrated the birthday of Heidi, one of our esteemed team leaders. As the day drew to a close, some of the students gathered for a lighthearted "beauty time" session, engaging in a fun activity of plucking each other's eyebrows. It was a fantastic and unforgettable day at Wynchemna and the Calgary Stampede!

The Great Calgary Race!🇨🇦
We kicked off our day with a vibrant and nutritious breakfast, enjoying a spread of eggs, bacon, cereal, and plenty of laughter and lively conversation. Energized and ready for the day ahead, we dove into our first two lessons, eagerly meeting our new classmates. The morning was filled with excitement as we delved into our classes with enthusiasm.
Following a delightful pizza lunch at Vanelli’s in North Hill Mall, we ventured downtown to embark on the Great Calgary Race. Armed with maps and a spirit of adventure, students took charge, navigating the city streets to discover various landmarks and snap memorable photos along the way. Laughter echoed through the city as teams completed challenges and bonded over the thrill of exploration.
With the scavenger hunt successfully concluded, we gathered at a charming Indian restaurant for a flavorsome dinner, savoring a variety of delicious dishes.
Back at Wynchemna, our students engaged in one final lesson, reflecting on the day’s experiences and learning together. It was truly a day filled with joy, discovery, and meaningful connections—a perfect reflection of our time here at Wynchemna
Loose Moose, Rock Climbing and so Much More!
Today was a blast and we met many new friends! We started the day with a hearty breakfast consisting of eggs, yogurt, fruit and more. The first activity of the day was human bingo. So we went outside with our full class of campers and learned lots of new things about each other. Each student had to find other students that matched statements on their bingo cards and try and complete the whole page! After filling bingo cards full with classmates’ names, winners were awarded with some of our favourite Canadian chocolate bars!
Arriving back inside for our first lesson of the day students attended various engaging classes with work such as vocabulary, storytelling, history and more. Taking a break for lunch, students enjoyed beef and vegetable stir fry, featuring a yummy s’mores dessert! This meal fuelled us for both an immersive improv show and indoor rock climbing! Students had tons of fun and laughs with the improv director from Loose Moose, where they were encouraged to get out of their comfort zone and be creative in various ways. While rock climbing, students’ bravery and strength was put on display as they overcame fears while climbing to new heights!
After a big day of activities, beef curry was served for dinner, which transitioned into more lessons in the evening.
What a great day to be at Wynchemna!
Laundry, Laughs, and Laces: A Day of Fun and Games!
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another day at Wynchemna. It's day six of camp, and what a day it's been.
We started our day with some much-needed laundry. It's incredible how quickly clothes pile up when you're having so much fun. While our laundry was going, we had a delicious breakfast of bagels, eggs, bacon, and fruit. There's nothing like a hearty meal to kickstart the day.
After breakfast, we headed to our morning lessons. Today's focus was on developing our acting skills and creating "All About Me" posters. We also took some fun quizzes and participated in other engaging activities. These lessons aren't just educational; they're helping us build more meaningful connections with each other.
Lunch was next on the agenda, and we had a fantastic spread of pasta, cookies, and salad. Right after lunch, our laundry was ready to be switched to the dryer, so we took care of that before packing our bags for an exciting afternoon.
The afternoon was a blast! We headed to Bowness Park for some outdoor activities. First up was learning to play American football. For many of us, it was our first time, but we had so much fun learning the rules and running around the field. Next, we hit the water for some canoeing. Paddling around the park was both relaxing and exhilarating, and the weather was perfect.
After a full afternoon of activities, we wrapped up the day with a delicious dinner of Vietnamese pho. The warm, flavorful soup was the perfect way to wind down. Once dinner was done, we made our way back to SAIT for our last lesson of the day.
We ended the day by reflecting on everything we did. It's incredible to see how much we've accomplished and learned in just a single day. The acting skills, the teamwork in football, the peaceful moments canoeing – all of these experiences are shaping our time at camp into something truly special.
That's all for today, folks! Thanks for joining us on this journey. See you tomorrow for more fun!
