Truth or Lie:
Which one would you choose?

Most humans prefer a comfortable lie over an uncomfortable truth. For example, when we receive an unflattering Christmas gift like an ugly sweater or baggy pants, we often refrain from expressing our true feelings to avoid hurting the giver. Similarly, when we try on old, faded clothes in front of a mirror, we tend to convince ourselves that they still look good on us, even if they don't.

In moments of self-doubt, we seek validation from our loved ones, partners, or children, and we often receive the same kind of lies we tell ourselves. It's part of our evolution; we tell the people we care about what they want to hear to make them feel better. Psychologists refer to this as a "white lie" - a lie that is acceptable as it's meant to protect feelings.

Even when we shop for clothes, we might hastily buy something without trying it on or considering how it complements our existing wardrobe. And when we ask for the opinion of sales assistants, many of them prioritize making a sale rather than giving genuine advice.

So, whom can you trust? The answer lies in finding a professional whose expertise is to make you look and feel great. Image consultants and stylists have no emotional attachment to clients, making their opinions trustworthy. A good consultant cares more about the client's satisfaction than making money since their reputation and future career depend on it.

A parallel can be drawn between a professional fencing coach and an image consultant. The coach will give honest feedback to their student during a competition to improve their performance and gain a medal. Likewise, an image consultant will provide candid advice to help their client achieve absolute brilliance in their appearance.

When considering whom you want by your side, it becomes a matter of choosing between someone who will merely comfort you, regardless of your performance, and someone who genuinely wants you to excel.

The choice is yours.

First Impressions Reloaded:
How to Turn a Missed Opportunity into a Second Chance for Success

Have you ever heard the statement that first impressions really matter and if you failed your first attempt, you’ll never have a second chance? I’m here to counter-argue this statement.

While the initial encounter may be crucial, subsequent interactions also contribute to forming an overall impression of an individual.

The notion of a singular first impression fails to consider the dynamic nature of human relationships and personal growth. People evolve over time, and their impressions can change accordingly. With each new encounter, individuals have the chance to showcase different aspects of their personality, skills, and character, leaving a new first impression.

Imagine a job interview process for a prestigious company. A candidate may have an initial interview with a recruiter, followed by subsequent interviews with different team members, managers, and executives. Each interview presents an opportunity for the candidate to make a distinct first impression on the individuals they meet.

During the first interview, the candidate may focus on showcasing their relevant skills and qualifications, aiming to make a positive impression as a competent professional. However, in subsequent interviews, they may have the chance to delve deeper into their experience, demonstrate their teamwork abilities, or highlight their problem-solving skills. Each interview panel will form their own first impression based on the candidate's performance, which may differ from the initial impression formed in the first interview.

The candidate's initial interview sets the foundation for their overall impression, but subsequent interviews allow them to showcase additional qualities and leave a lasting impact. The company's decision-making process will consider all the impressions gathered from each interaction before making a final assessment.

Therefore, people have multiple opportunities to create first impressions. Each interaction contributes to forming a holistic perception of an individual, and subsequent encounters can influence and modify initial impressions.

Why black won’t make you look slimmer?

Recently I had a conversation with a friend of mine who told me that black doesn’t help him to cover his belly fat.

I looked at him and said: of course, it doesn’t. Look at what you are wearing!

Many image consultants and stylists claim that black clothing can create a slimming effect. While this may be true, it depends on several factors. Firstly, it depends on how much excess weight you have. If you have recently gained weight and want a temporary solution to conceal it, black clothing can help. However, if you barely can see your legs because of the belly, regardless of the color you wear, it won't make you appear slimmer. In that case, the only solution is to focus on diet and exercise.

Secondly, the fit of your clothes is crucial when it comes to wearing black. If your clothes are too tight, they will emphasize love handles and expose your belly. On the other hand, loose-fitting clothes can make you look even larger. Opting for regular-fit clothing is your best bet.

Thirdly, consider the choice of fabric. Bulky hoodies, thick wool sweaters, puffy parkas, and other similar types of clothes, can actually make you appear bigger. Instead, choose coats, trench coats, or suit jackets with lightly or broad padded shoulders. These create a structured look, balancing the upper and lower parts of your torso and drawing attention to the upper body. If you still want to wear sweaters in cold weather, layer them under a suit jacket.

Fourthly, aim for a monochromatic look. This means not only wearing black on the upper body but throughout your entire outfit. You can add a pop of color with your accessories such as shoes, a hat, a scarf, a tie, or a pocket square to make your outfit more interesting, but be cautious not to overdo it and stick to the overall monochrome aesthetic.

Lastly, remember that black is not the only color that can make you look slimmer. If you wear them right, you can also opt for navy blue, dark green, chocolate brown, or charcoal grey.

As you probably have already guessed, that friend of mine made exactly the same mistakes, which is why the black color hoodie he wore that day didn't help conceal his belly fat. The combination of these strategies is what truly helps create a slimming effect. However, it's important to remember that this is a temporary solution and not a magical fix. Black creates a visual effect, but your belly is still there! And if you genuinely want to achieve good shape and address the issue of belly fat, you'll have to commit to fitness training and make necessary lifestyle changes.
