THE BEAT is no longer held at Triniti Bar and is currently moving to another location. WAKAZI – Rap / HipHop
Wakazi started rapping at a young age in Tanzania. In his late teens he moved to Chicago where he became more serious with his craft and met allot of talent, which pushed him to perfect his music. Since Wakazi moved back to Tanzania he has managed to make a substantial mark on the hip-hop scene not only in Tanzania but also on the rest of the continent. His signature Blend of English and Swahili rhymes gives him a unique identity.
ASHIMBA – Traditional / Afrofusion
Ashimba is one of Tanzania´s most talented singer songwriters. He has a passion for intricate and complex compositions. His sound borrows from the West African griot traditions fused with his own unique style of playing and Swahili, and Sukuma compositions. He has toured in Europe several times and has recently figured in the European World Music Charts.
MZUNGU KICHAA – Afrofusion
Mzungu Kichaa and his band Bongo Beat have created a unique style of live Bongo Flava, which has taken them around the world. Tonight Mzungu Kichaa will perform a set which they have been touring with in Europe during the past month as part of their Mind Body Soul Tour. The performance will also mark the launch of a new single which has been released in three different languages: English, Swahili and Danish.

LUMUMBA – Afrofusion / Traditional
The band, also known as Lumumba Theatre is made up of talented singers, dancers, actors, choreographers and musicians, based in Dar es Salaam. Established in 1997 by Director Dyuto Komba the group is made up of students from Lumumba Primary School, located in the heart of Dar es Salaam. To date the group has performed all over Tanzania and at festivals in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, and Europe.
JINONG´ITE – Traditional / Afrofusion
After a studio session in 2012, James Mlanda decided to form a band, which would focus on the fusion between traditional and contemporary music. This became Jinong´ite, which means something that is fun and sweet at the same time. The group have showcased in Uganda at DOADOA together with Dbass Qanun. The group specializes in high-energy percussion based compositions that are guaranteed to make you move.
MZUNGU KICHAA – Afrofusion
Together with his band Bongo Beat, Mzungu Kichaa has created a unique style of live Bongo Flava, which has taken them around the world. Tonight Mzungu Kichaa will perform a selection of old and new songs together with his backing band Bongo Beat. The performance will also mark the launch of a new single by the artist.

Swahili Ally is a talented singer and kora player from Tanga. He was born into a musical family and was taught music by his grandparents, elders and respected musicians from the wadigo ethnic group. He went on to study at Lumumba where he joined Lumumba Orchestra and eventually, became their lead singer. Today, Swahili fuses his vibrant performance of digo music with the dazzling sound of the kora. He uses the West African instrument to pronounce his digo heritage in a unique and new style.

Debuting in 2009 with his album Tuko Pamoja, Mzungu Kichaa and his band Bongo Beat have created a unique style of live Bongo Flava, which has taken them around the world. Tonight Mzungu Kichaa will perform a selection of old and new songs upfront and personal with a solo acoustic performance with his guitar after a two week songwriting retreat in Morogoro.

Debuting in 2009 with his album Tuko Pamoja, Mzungu Kichaa and his band Bongo Beat have created a unique style of live Bongo Flava which has taken them around the world. Mzungu Kichaa and Bongo Beat have toured Europe 7 times. Their most recent official videos include ‘Twajiachia’ and ‘Relax Your Mind’. ‘Relax Your Mind’ features Dar es Salaam as their backdrop, and is the first release by Mzungu Kichaa in English.

PERFORMING ON FRIDAY 10TH OF JUNE 2016: Ze Spirits Band is a group of young talented Tanzanian musicians from Bagamoyo, 20 to 26 years of age. The group has been playing together since they were about 7-10 years old. They grew up as apprentices of singer and songwriter, Vitalis Maembe. At the moment some of them are studying music at TaSuBa (Taasisi ya Sanaa na Utamaduni Bagamoyo) in Bagamoyo and others at DCMA (Dhow Countries Music Academy) in Zanzibar.
