Tanzania Youth Cultural Exchange Network (TYCEN )is a non-governmental, Non-profitable youth development organization whose mission is “to engage young people first-hand in improving local and health education, foster environmental conservation and Gender issues and further sustainable development in communities throughout Tanzania”. TYCEN supports the integration of young people in society, to e
ncourage their involvement in the social, cultural and economic life of their local and regional community and to create habits and skills for active civic participation. It provides consultation and training in the fields of civil society, social issues and youth civic integration for young people and informal groups. It also organizes cultural Exchange and educational programmes and events. TYCEN learns from and cooperates with local, Tanzanian and non-Tanzanian organizations and actors in introducing and applying modern and innovative methods in the field of education, active citizenship and participation. Its activities involve and benefits the informal groups of young people aged 15-35. The organization came into existence as a respond to the challenges facing today’s young people Social-Cultural, and economically.TYCEN is working towards improving the living standards of youth by facilitating them to be self employed, improving education and skills so as to be self reliance and to increase the opportunities for local and international youth to participate actively in the development of just, harmonious and sustainable communities and to be engaged global citizens through various youth programs such as International exchange and volunteers’ work camp in partnership with other local and International organizations. The forefront strategy in delivering on our mission is Volunteerism. TYCEN will utilize the diverse approaches in delivering its programmes and these will include; Youth Work Camps and Youth Exchange Programs (engaging both local and international young volunteers), and also improving the national environment for volunteer work. TYCEN believes that whilst Volunteering, young people can forge new connections with counterparts from diverse backgrounds and create an atmosphere of cooperation and respect among people from different communities and countries.
