MARCH 22 - WORLD WATER DAY

“If the well can’t be protected, at least keep it tidy and respect it,” the residents of Vuluga Locality in Buikwe Town Council, Buikwe District, seem to say. SAADIN found this the cleanest well of all 9 wells we visited at random in Buikwe Town Council and Buikwe Rural Sub County in January 2015.

Church Founded Secondary School in Jinja District badly in need of a borehole. "The students at times wake up at 4 am to look for scarce water," says the Church Pastor/administrator, name reserved. "And yet getting up that early is not necessarily a guarantee that they will not find a crowd of villagers already lined up at the only borehole down the hill."

COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURE WILL TRANSFORM BUSOGA - MUSEVENI.

Museveni reportedly advised that....... “the commercialization of agriculture is what Busoga needs to attain financial stability. However, crops such as maize and sugarcane can yield highly only if done on a large scale.”

He is said to have gone on to advise the women to adopt the seven-acre method of agriculture in order to ensure better and higher profits from their varied activities even for those who have small pieces of land.

"The NRM leader cited projects such as ......poultry, dairy cows, pasture/fodder, fruits, colonal coffee and food crops like matooke (bananas) and cassava that can be grown together on the same piece of land." ....... ENVIRONMENTAL MISMANAGEMENT: THE CONSEQUENCES

“You were hit by a bomb caused by our own river” President Museveni.

River Nyamwamba in Kasese District has sounded yet another warning to Ugandans.
Her banks burst wide in Bukonzo, Kyarumba, Kyondo and Kisinga areas early May 2014, prompting environmentalists to cry out against environmental degradation.
President Yoweri Museveni visited the area and said this was a warning to the locals for their mismanagement of the environment. “You were hit by a bomb caused by our own river” he said.
Four people died in the floods and scores were injured while 665 households were displaced. Bulembia Primary school, a government facility (photographed) was razed to the ground. (Photo courtesy of Presidential Press Unit).
The banks of the river have been left unmanaged while there has been drastic deforestation.
Several landslides have devastated Bududa Hills in Eastern Uganda in the recent years leading to deaths and displacement.

QUIZ GOES VIRAL

A frustrated father posted a subtraction problem from his second-grade son’s math quiz on Facebook this week with a note to the teacher calling it ridiculous.....

The problem asks how Jack, a fictional student, miscalculated when he used a number line to find the answer to the subtraction problem 427 – 316. Students are then asked to write a letter to Jack explaining what he did right and what he did wrong.
