Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, the president of Uganda has banned Facebook in Uganda.

Museveni argued that it is not appropriate for Facebook to partially interfere with the usage of its services to target some groups.

“The other day Facebook decided to block the NRM message senders. Why would anybody do that? When I heard about that I told our people to warn them. That social media channel (Facebook), if it’s going to operate in Uganda, it should be used equitably by everybody,” Museveni said.

“I am sorry for the inconvenience to those who have been using this channel (Facebook), but we cannot tolerate this arrogance of anybody coming to decide for us who is good and who is bad,” the president warned.

“There is no way anybody can come and play around with our country to decide who is good and bad,” he added.

President Museveni also warned some groups that he said have made it a habit to cheat in elections. “I want to tell you, that cheating is treason. When you use violence to intimidate to be voted for, you are committing treason,” he warned.

“If you plan to cheat or alter results so that you win even when the majority didn’t vote for you, it means you won’t go back to solve the issues of the people because you will cheat in the next election. This renders democracy null and void. I am warning everyone, don’t try to cheat,” he added.

President Museveni also appealed to EC to not allow any voting where a thumbprint is not used. “Anybody trying to cheat, we shall go for them. Don’t waste our time by trying to cheat. One of the reasons we are appealing to you to vote peacefully is because your country is doing very well,” the president said.

National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi akaBobi Wine has been arrested and is reportedly being driven to a Police station in areas of Kalangala Island.
Bobi Wine has been arrested along side all his campaign crew members after being ambushed by security operatives in Kalangala Islands where he was set to hold his presidential campaigns today.
According to NUP secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, many members of the campaign team have been arrested and driven to an unknown destination.
The National Unity Platform Party confirmed the arrest of their presidential candidate on their official Facebook account.

The former national boxing team captain, well known as Mando, was shot dead at his home in Kampala early Wednesday.
Isaac Zebra Ssenyange aged 39 was one of Uganda's most prolific boxers.

Police in Kampala are investigating the death of Ugandan professional boxer Isaac Zebra Ssenyange, who was gunned down early Wednesday at his home in Bwaise, Kawempe division.

Police later reached the scene in Bugalani zone in Bwaise III and took his body to the City Mortuary at Mulago as investigations into his death got under way.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the death of Ssenyange, a former captain of Uganda's national boxing team, and promised to give a detailed statement in the course of the day.

At least five people, four of whom are security officers, have been injured after one of the patrol cars trailing Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Patrick Amuriat plunged into a swamp in Kyegegwa District.
The accident happened on Monday morning at Kyatega in Kyegegwa district where Mr Amuriat was meant to campaign as he looks for votes ahead of the January 14, 2020 poll.

The injured include two soldiers who were on the patrol car, two officers attched to Amuriat's security detail and another staff of Amuriat.
Police had been engaged in running battles since morning, unleashing rounds of teargas at Amuriat and his supporters in Kyegegwa town.
After leaving the town, three police patrol cars trailed him and attempted to overtake the convoy. At exactly the centre, the car registration number UP1302 crashed into a stationary motorcycle and swerved into the swamp.
By the time of filing this story, the district police commander who is commanding operations was still stranded in the car in the swamp as attempts to remove the car have so far failed.

2nd Deputy PM Ali Kirunda Kivejinja Dies at 85
20th DEC 2020

The Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, is dead.
He was 85.
Kivejinja, a veteran Ugandan politician and senior presidential advisor to President Museveni, passed away this Saturday evening at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
He was recently admitted at the medical facility where he was battling diabetes which were complicated by malaria, according to family members.
A family source confirmed that Kivejinja passed away 19th DEC 2020 at 5:00pm.
Information Minister Judith Nabakooba recently dismissed reports that Kivejinja was dead, saying he was “in ICU under care. His blood pressure and sugars are under control.”
She, however Tweeted this evening: “He was a true patriot, a mentor to many and a great man for those that had a chance to interact with him. and stand with Alhaji Kirunda Kivejinja’s in this time of need.”
Kivejinja previously served as the Minister for Relief and Social Rehabilitation, Internal Affairs and as Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda.
Education
Kivejinja studied at the Kibuli Junior School and Busoga College Mwiri in Uganda and then took a pre-university course at Madras Christian College before obtaining a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Zoology at Delhi University on a Government of India scholarship.
While in India he was treasurer of the African Students Association which had among its members Bingu wa Mutharika, John Malecela and John Mataure.
Political career
Kivejinja returned to Uganda in 1962. During the 1960s he served a political mobilizer for the Uganda People’s Congress, the ruling political party at that time. Since the overthrow of the second Milton Obote regime in 1986, Kivejinja has served in several positions in the government led by President Yoweri Museveni.
In 1986, he was appointed Minister of Relief and Social Rehabilitation.

Kakuuto Parliamentary candidate Lutaaya hospitalized in critical condition

RAKAI- Musician turned politician and the Kakuuto county NUP parliamentary candidate Geoffrey Lutaaya has been admitted in hospital in a critical condition.

The yet to be diagnosed illness according to the family source says keeps them worried of the life of their dear one.


Lutaaya’s sickness comes days after a week another party candidate Nakimuli Jennifer the Buziga Parish Woman Councilor candidate in Makindye Division, Kampala passed on.

The Kakuuto county Parliamentary seat is being contested by the incumbent, Christopher Kalemba of National Resistance Movement (NRM), local musician Geoffrey Lutaaya of National Unity Platform ( NUP) Robert Kalule, a lawyer and People Power supporter and Charles Jjumba, the Kyotera district vice-chairperson from NRM.

However, the main battle is likely to be between Kalemba and Lutaaya, who have strong name recognition in the constituency and have been gathering money for their election.

Kakuuto and other constituencies in the district have been dominated by NRM heavily in the past and analysts say many of its candidates will again be returned to Parliament without too much of a struggle.

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s private secretary Caroline Kembabazi could have compelled officials in the Electoral Commission (EC) human resource department to employ her relatives had one of these officials not sought the help of Lt Col Edith Nakalema and her State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU).

Sometime between November and December 2020, Kembabazi had driven to EC headquarters in Kampala and told officials in the human resource department to hire her relatives Kenneth Magezi, Duncan Muramuzi and Elia Abomeire as district assistant registrars.

Kembabazi had told the EC officials that her boss Museveni had ordered that her relatives be recruited into the EC structures.

She had threatened to take action against the human resource personnel if they didn’t employ her relatives.

But on the fateful day Kembabazi, 31, a resident of Kireka in Kira Division of Wakiso District, was nabbed, an official from the EC had called SH-ACU whose detectives swung into action and found the president’s private secretary reportedly intimidating human resource officers.

She would then get arrested but released on police bond.

On December 17, she appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu read to her the charges of giving false information to the EC in order to have her three relatives employed.
Kembabazi denied the charges.

Kamasanyu denied her bail and remanded her to Kigo Prison until January 06, 2021.

Minister Kiwanda: NUP supporters are not allowing NRM supporters to sit with them in taxis

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice chairperson for Central region, Minister Godfrey Kiwanda has said that the National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters has failed to play politics of tolerance to people who do not subscribe to their ideologies.

Kiwanda said the NUP supporters have been known for using social media to insult and abuse anyone who is against them but they have also shifted the battles to the communities.

“In the villages, NUP supporters are threatening other people simply because they don’t support them. We have reports of non NUP supporters being forced out of taxis,” said Kiwanda.

The minister believes that with such behaviours, the youthful camp will never get the mandate to lead Uganda.

On the continued complacence by the public in following COVID-19 guidelines, Kiwanda says political leaders are to blame for spearheading the violations.

He also said that it was not a good idea for Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng to join the parliamentary race as she was the pillar in the fight against COVID 19.

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga said the MP “passed on this (Friday) morning after contracting and suffering from Covid19,” adding that the House would observed a moment of silence in her honour.
