Consistency can give us results without us realising. Purpose to be consistent at doing something. Here are some ideas:

a. Breath in and out every two hours
b. Wake up at 4am everyday
c. Read a book daily; a picture book is fine too.
d. Talk to God every day
e. I want to say take a glass of water every hour but...
f. Apply vaseline slowly
g. Sleep earlier than usual.
h. Do something out of your comfort zone
I. Write your thoughts on paper
j. Buy Avocado. Slice it. Eat it.

Early this year, Rosey Sembatya, the Team Lead at The Malaika Children's Mobile Library was invited to speak to young writers at OrelVine International Academy about Reading and Writing.

She started her presentation with a quote by Seanice Kancungira . L . that reads, ' To read is the closest we can get to living multiple lives.'

We know for a fact that the learners at the OrelVine International Academy are going to make excellent writers and performers. Let's keep our eye on them.

It was wonderful.

What being around children has taught me is that laughter is therapy, and it's a choice and that I deserve a chance at being silly and laughing out loud.

I am a fan of Children's books. The writers see things that are sooo Wow-ing. Basically, they know their audience soooo well.

When I shared this flyer with my friend, Pita Kamuz , the first thing he noticed was the Mzungu girl in there. Naye abazungu bakukolaki, Ssebo!? I love her reaction.

There is immense power that voices carry. Just imagine a world without voices; Silent. No music. No chirping. Ears lost. Oratory dead.

Voices heal. Voices touch lives. A voice can dig you from the depths of despair to a floating bliss.

Just imagine if we nurtured our children's voices. If we listened to their voices, heard that X factor and did something about it.

An opportunity is here. Have your little ones participate in this. We shall give you a good evaluation. Please share widely.

Note: Attached the two pix of the gals for cheer. I think they are beautiful 😍

Here is Fantastic plot for July 1st.

Imagine Reading as a way of life!

Here is how you can plan to celebrate D.E.A.R. Day:

1. Buy story books for a school in your neighborhood. The Oasis Book Project run by my friend and fantastic writer, Oscar Ranzo is running a sale for this cause. Books cost as low as 5000Ugx. Lower, if you are buying more copies.

2. Take time off to gather the children in a school near you and read to them. Plan to enjoy yourself, because reading for and with children is soooo much fun.

3. Buy a book for a stranger . Any stranger. Any book. A smaller volume is always a good idea. Just incase it isn't their favourite genre, the ordeal will only last a while.

4. Make a Facebook post about your favourite book and why you love reading.

5. Catch someone reading. Take a pic and walk away. Reading is sacred. Interrupting a reader is a crime.

6. Plan to find a book and Read. Drop Everything and Read.

Did you know that before rain, something changes in the atmosphere?
Did you know that jackfruit lets us know before hand that it is ready to eat?
Did you know that before the ants move anything, they make a file...like a road?

The thing about books is that they introduce us to new worlds, awaken our sense of adventure and are generally fun.

Take for example, Follow the Clues, it is not only about the sniffy sniffy mouse that is trying to find its way but about looking out for signs and clues that announce things.

Yes, the Universe communicates. Earth speaks. Start the children young knowing how to use their senses in their environment.

This Dogman series is every 6-8 year old boy's fascination now. It is such a playful comic by the creator of Captain Underpants. It has a whole 280 pages that are a breath of freshness and would be a wonderful introduction to big volumes. I love it.

If you have some ka money, please gift your 6-8 year old boy. Aristoc sells it at 69,900Ugx.

We have some copies on our Children's mobile library too.

Happy Thursday.

A note on Reading.
Thank you,Strive.

Go to bed smarter each day.

__"Read 500 pages, every day. That's how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest". [Warren Buffett]

As we're on the countdown to the last days of the platform at the end of this month, I want to remind you of one of the most important lessons I've taught here since back in 2013 when we got started: The importance of .

We all read these days, more so than at any other time in history. The guy looking at his small phone following social media platforms actually reads a lot! He probably reads as much volume of writing as Warren Buffett! So don’t say things like: “I cannot read long things”.

The secret to unlocking “hidden treasures” is – but the right stuff!

I read very fast, and very intensely, at the same time. I trained myself to be able to do this! You can train yourself to do this, too -- if you really want to, and if you are convinced it is what will set you apart. It is the most valuable of all !

__Let me give you a simple tip: Start reading enjoyable books to speed up your reading, through practice. Even if it’s just thriller novels—start there! Just read, read, read!

Even though I read a lot of very serious material every day, and I’m very fast at it, I find that I have to filter out things that “crowd out” my reading time.

One day I sat down to find time for reading and listening to entrepreneurship issues and I found there was no time left! Then and there I removed myself from social media platforms that were simply entertainment and gossip.

The only emails that get to me are those that are important, which I then clear the same day! I don’t need promotions to clog my inbox, or people sharing the latest political and social gossip. What value is that to me?

It might frighten some of you to imagine that you have to read 500 pages a day! Actually, you can, and you probably do it unconsciously on your phone!

But what if you did it deliberately, systematically? Now you know a great secret of wealth!

In an article I shared with you a few weeks ago, the writer [Marcel Schwantes of “Leadership from the Core”] talked about what one rule that Warren Buffett calls THE key to his success:

__”Go to bed a little smarter each day”.

Buffett explained that it operates on the power of "compounding interest”. Within a few years… all those numbers of pages you read starts to YIELD RESULTS… in !

Buffett says he reads about 80% of his time each day. Mark Cuban reads more than three hours a day. Bill Gates reads about 50 books per year. Elon Musk? When asked about how he learned to build rockets, he said, "I read books."

Buffett doesn't limit building up his to books alone. He reads six newspapers a day, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, USA Today, Omaha World-Herald, and American Banker.

Whether or not you have time for such an ambitious goal is largely irrelevant. The point of the Buffett formula is to make whatever progress you can. Few of us can squeeze in a 500-page daily goal with our busy schedules.

But most of us, with some intentionality, can fit in 15, maybe 20 pages, each day, improving our level of knowledge in the process.

__You need to make part of your routine. Every day.

When I wake up in the morning, I start by making myself an Espresso or cup of tea. Then I go to my favorite spot in the house and the Bible. I dedicate a minimum of one hour to this ritual. I then go off to pray about 30 minutes on a working day.

Next, I sit down to review the news: I have about 10 newspapers on an app, mostly global media like FT and WSJ. Then, I review my daily Media Report [collection of newspaper clippings from countries where we operate]. I also dedicate 30 minutes each day to reading your Facebook comments here and writing back to some of them.

This routine happens daily, even if I’m traveling.

I have no Instagram, WhatsApp, and I don’t follow celebrities of any kind. Throughout the day, every day, I’m stuff related to business: Articles, reports, board papers.

This is work, and I enjoy it. [But woe is he or she that sends me something frivolous to read!!]

Now I have two questions for today:

1. What do you have for yourself?

2. Who can tell me what “Compound Interest” is? [Back to again. This is VERY important!]

Aha! This post is more than 100 words longer than my usual posts! If you've made it through to the end, you see I am helping some of you get started. Lol.

Let's talk.

Sometimes you chance on a children's book but are not sure whether your child or children in your care are able to read it.

Most standard books and levels are categorised as Books Bands. Depending on your child's age, this is a simple guide to book bands that is likely to apply to an average child. Some children may be different but... this might help.
