We are set to host the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation ( AP-S) Breakfast Meeting, on this Monday, December 18, 2023, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, at Koki Hotel, City Square, Kampala, Uganda.
Our special guest, Dr. Vikass Monebhurrun from IEEE AP-S, will enlighten us with his presentation on "Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields Emitted by Wireless Communication Devices."
The meeting will be filled with insightful discussions and excellent opportunities for networking in a friendly and inviting environment. We would be honored by your presence.
Why Virtual Reality (VR) is Important for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education: VR provides an immersive and interactive learning environment, allowing students to explore and interact with complex scientific concepts in ways that traditional methods cannot match. This hands-on experience enhances understanding and retention of STEM subjects.
Many STEM concepts, especially in subjects like physics and chemistry, can be abstract and challenging to visualize. VR enables students to visualize and manipulate these abstract concepts in three-dimensional space, making them more tangible and easier to comprehend. Virtual Reality allows for the creation of realistic simulations and experiments without the need for physical materials. This is particularly useful for experiments that may be dangerous, expensive, or logistically challenging to conduct in a traditional classroom setting.
VR can provide virtual tours of workplaces and industries, allowing students to explore potential STEM careers. This firsthand experience can help them make more informed decisions about their future career paths. It can also make learning more engaging and enjoyable, capturing the interest of students who might otherwise find STEM subjects challenging or boring. The immersive nature of VR can increase motivation and enthusiasm for learning.
In summary, Virtual Reality in STEM education enhances learning by providing immersive experiences, facilitating visualization of abstract concepts, enabling simulations and experiments, supporting career exploration, among others. It has the potential to revolutionize the way students engage with and understand STEM subjects.

Celebrate Open Access week by checking out this recently published article titled "Single-Pixel Diffuser Camera" from the IEEE Journal on Xplore by visiting the link in our Bio.
Abstract—We present a compact, diffuser assisted, single-pixel computational camera. A rotating ground glass diffuser is adopted, in preference to a commonly used digital micro-mirror device (DMD), to encode a two-dimensional (2D) image into single-pixel signals. We retrieve images with an 8.8% sampling ratio after the calibration of the pseudo-random pattern of the diffuser under light-emitting diode (LED) illumination. Furthermore, we demonstrate hyperspectral imaging with line array detection by adding a diffraction grating. As the random and fixed patterns of a rotating diffuser placed in the image plane can serve as 2D modulation patterns in single-pixel imaging, we do not need further calibration for spectral imaging case since we use a parallel recovery strategy for images at all wavelengths. The implementation results in a cost-effective single-pixel camera for high-dimensional imaging, with potential for imaging in non-visible wavebands.
