M***i Commends Turkiye Charity's Contributions to Muslim Education in Uganda
His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the M***i of Uganda, has expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sahin Help, an international charity founded by a German philanthropist with Turkish ancestry, Dr. Sahin.
Dr. Sahin Help, in collaboration with the Ngali Development Foundation, another Turkish-based charity headed by Mr. Mahmud Guller, operating in Uganda, has played a significant role in constructing a fully-fledged orphanage with a learning center on Nyarubanga Hill in Mbarara City Northern division overlooking the city.
The facility includes administrative sections, classrooms, dormitories, prayer rooms, and a dining hall, among other units. This multimillion-dollar project was inaugurated in a well-attended and colorful ceremony on Monday, October 9th, 2023. Similar orphanage have been constructed in Entebbe, and there are plans for another project in Arua Muslim District in the near future.
M***i Mubaje's special message of appreciation was delivered by Honorable Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Acting Secretary-General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC). He described the commissioning of the project as timely, coinciding with Uganda's 61st Independence anniversary, where Ugandan Muslims can celebrate their achievement in acquiring education, which was denied to them for decades during the British colonial rule.
Counsel Aluma also extended his gratitude to the government, headed by President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for creating an enabling environment that facilitated the implementation of this project. He emphasized UMSC's commitment to working closely with the government to ensure that madrassa schools are not influenced by ideologies that undermine national security and Islamic principles.
He encouraged Muslims in Mbarara District and the greater Ankole-Kigezi region to embrace the school as their own and support their children's education at the center.
Before Counsel Aluma's remarks, Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, the UMSC Secretary for Education, praised the project for addressing societal challenges such as illiteracy, poverty, and lack of skills. He urged other organizations to follow the example of Dr. Sahin Help in supporting the renovation of existing Muslim schools in poor condition.
Mr. Robert Kanussu, the Mbarara City Resident District Commissioner (RCC), representing the government, also commended the project as aligned with the National Strategic Plan. Dr. Sahin expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality he has received from Ugandan citizens and pledged to continue rolling out social transformation programs. The event was attended by UMSC heads of department, including Honorable Nasser Musa Odongkara, Secretary for Awqaf (Endowment); Sheikh Abdul Karim Abdallah Katamba, Director of Halaal/Acting Regional Assistant to the M***i in charge of Ankole-Kigezi Muslim region; Mr. Shaban Magala, Transport Officer; Honorable Sophie Safina Kenyangi, National Chairperson of the Muslim Women Council; and District Kadhis from Arua, Isingiro, Kiruhura, and the host, Mbarara Muslim District, among other UMSC leaders.
Prior to the commissioning of the orphanage, the UMSC delegation led by Counsel Aluma paid a courtesy visit to Emirates Junior School, where they received a warm reception from the School Director Hajjat Kobutungi Zainabu staff. Counsel Aluma commended the school for its noble services in enlightening the young generation.

Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Secretary General Hosts Delegation of Muslims from Nsimbe Memorial Mosque Amid Legal Dispute.
Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) on Tuesday recieved a delegation of Muslims from Nsimbe Memorial Mosque in Bayita'ababiri Village, Katabi Sub-county, Wakiso District, near the Entebbe express highway.
The delegation was led by Sheikh Muhammad Abdul-Kadir Kirya, the Mosque Imam, along with other Committee members. Their visit aimed at expressing gratitude to the UMSC Secretary General's Office for providing legal support in a civil case related to the ownership of a portion of land housing the mosque.
The dispute originated from a claim by city businessman Emmy Ssegwanyi, who asserted ownership of the land, which was originally donated to the Muslim community by the late Haj Bulaimu Nsimbe. The late Nsimbe alias "Salopassi" (founder of cough mixture) was known for his strong support of UMSC and played an active role in promoting Muslim activities from the 1970s until his passing in the late 1980s.
Following Haj Nsimbe's death, his son Ibrahim Mwanje raised false claims that the mosque compound belonged to their family. This led to a heated disagreement between the mosque leadership and the Nsimbe family. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown imposed by the government, Mwanje, in collaboration with local leaders, land officials, and security personnel, allegedly attempted to sell the Nsimbe Memorial Mosque compound to Ssegwanyi.
However, Muslims vehemently opposed this move, resulting in two years of ongoing conflicts. Ssegwanyi used various security agencies to detain Muslims, accusing them of trespassing on the property. Earlier this year, Ssegwanyi filed a civil suit against UMSC to claim rights over the property.
As part of the legal process, he filed two miscellaneous applications—one as an interim application and another as temporary injunctions—to restrict any activity on the property, including religious functions, pending the outcome of the main suit.
On September 5th, 2023, both applications were heard, and UMSC, represented by its Legal Officer, Counsel Bunyasin Ibrahim, successfully argued its case to the satisfaction of the trial judge leading to the dismissal of both applications to insufficient grounds.
Counsel Haj Aluma, in his remarks, drew inspiration from the Holy Quran and the experiences of Prophet Muhammad and his companions who faced trials and adversity. He encouraged the congregation to remain united, steadfast, and firm in serving the community under UMSC. On behalf of UMSC, he pledged to continue providing necessary support, as the office has been doing. Present at the meeting was Counsel Bunyasin Ibrahim, UMSC Legal Officer.

Hadith of the day...
Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “There is no envy except in two: a person who God has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (ie religious knowledge) and he gives His decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others. "

Traders contest the Shs.735,000, for the new digital number plates. They are too expensive..
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, KACITA chairman, Musoke Thadeus Nagenda said they have learned of a move by the government to roll out the digital number plates starting July 1, 2023, a decision he said is rushed.
The government of Uganda is set to roll out digital number plates with each car owner set to pay shs735,000 for a digital number plate that will replace the current ones
“We have noticed that the new cost will be more expensive compared to that of regional neighbors like Kenya where number plates cost Ksh 3,000 (shs80,000) for motor vehicles and Kshs 1,500 (shs40,000) for motorcycles and they bear the same security features. Comparison on the costs per plate from shs125,000 to shs713,000 for motorcycles and from 137,000 to 713,000 for motor vehicles raises the overall cost of the unit and this is so ridiculous,” Nagenda, the KACITA chairman said.
He said dealers are already facing various financial challenges, including high fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and insurance cents, and increasing the cost of digital number plates and tracking devices to their financial burden will push them further into financial distress.
The traders asked to know the breakdown of the shs735,000 for each digital number plate to be undertaken by Russian company, M/S Joint Stock Company Global Security.

Before the end of next (this) week, the government will release the balance of Shs50m to every Parish Development Model Sacco in the country to make a total of Shs100m revolving fund for the financial year 2022/2023,” Mr Musasizi said.
He added that the government has included Shs100b in the 2023/2024 financial year budget to fund skills development under the Emyooga program. This is set to benefit enterprises that were not captured under the PDM Saacos.
“With all these well-funded government programs on poverty eradication, we appeal to the leaders of religious institutions to use their structures and platforms to promote them among their followers for purposes of wealth and job creation,” Mr. Musasizi said.
Mr. Musasizi made the remarks during the weekend reopening of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rubanda District.

Museveni gives an update on his Covid situation,
President Museveni has said that he is now getting better with five days now spent in self-isolation at the Nakasero State Lodge after contracting Coronavirus disease. “Last night, I slept very well up to the 10th hour of the night (saa kumi za usiku –what the Europeans call 4am). This time, the dull headache was not there, nor was the mild throbbing (enkuratima) on top of the head,” Museveni said in an update about his Covid situation on Sunday night.
He said that, on Wednesday, there was also some mild muscle soreness typical of the usual flu.
