Who’s ready for tonight’s Pup Crawl in downtown Aberdeen? Alumnus Chunk came by to get a t-shirt for the occasion. Need something to celebrate? How about today’s adoption of our longest stay cat Maui???
UPDATE: WE WILL HAVE TO CANCEL THE TRACTOR SUPPLY portion of the adoption event as we cannot spare staff this morning due to 3 separate emergent animal situations that require our care today. IN-SHELTER ADOPTIONS ARE STILL WELCOME FROM 11 AM - 4 PM.

Ready for a snuggle-bug to add to our life? Meet some of our adoptable kittens during our Adoption Event at Tractor Supply Saturday (8/24) starting at 11 am or visit additional kittens and cats at the shelter from 11 am - 4 pm.

Charlie and Drew Barrymore are just 2 of the pups that you'll be supporting when you join us for our upcoming Pup/Pub Crawl FUNdraiser this Saturday, August 24 in Downtown Aberdeen. These 2 perfect pooches are part of our newest Freedom Tails trainees at Stafford Creek - graduating October 31 and looking for homes!
Join the fun at 5 different locations with multiple games available from 5-7:30 pm. There are SO many great prizes up for grabs! Our POPular Balloon Pop game, sponsored by our friends at Great NorthWest Federal Credit Union, is sure to be an irresistible oppawtunity!
Pick up a passport at any of the 5 participating locations and visit all 5 to be eligible to win one of 3 prizes up for grabs. Join us at Mount Olympus Brewing Company, Steam Donkey Brewing Company, The Tap Room, Messy Jessy's Bar and Grill, and Rediviva. There are a variety of drink and food specials that will have you saying, "Bone Appétit"!
Each location will have its own jar of dog bones. Come closest to guessing how many are in that jar and you will also win a prize - $5 entry per guess.
This is a dog-friendly event with outdoor seating available at all venues with the exception of Messy Jessy's. Thank you again to our event sponsors GNWFCU and Rognlin's!
Animal shelter to bring together dogs and drinks in Aberdeen | The Daily World The fundraising event will go next weekend
Don't forget that our friends at Aberdeen's New Parkway Tavern will be hosting a FUNdraiser this Sunday, August 18 at 1 pm. If you're feeling lucky, consider participating in the Poker Tournament ($25 entry) or just come for the food and drink specials as well as raffle prizes including tickets to see Alabama in concert.
Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to give back and have a great time!
One of our amazing volunteers scored the first of our new batch of t-shirts this morning, available in Youth sizes S/M/L ($25) and Adult sizes S/M/L/XL/2XL ($30). These can be purchased at the shelter or at one of several upcoming events: Westport Art Festival (Saturday, August 17), Poker Tournament at the New Parkway Tavern (Sunday, August 18), and the Pub/Pup Crawl (Saturday, August 24).
Our current longest stay cat (150 days) is 2 year old Maui Meowie. He wants ALL of the attention and can be a bit sassy and demanding about getting it. He has successfully lived with dogs but can be a bit of a bully to some cats (not all).
Meet Maui Meowie, a feline whose charm and wit rival that of any human. This sweet, friendly, smart, and playful cat is a master of mischief. He once lived with dogs and, in a comedic twist, ended up at the shelter because he tried to organize a canine uprising. Yes, he was the mastermind behind 'Operation: Furry Freedom,' an ambitious plan to replace all human food with pet food! Alas, the dogs, with their short attention spans, got distracted by their tails, and Maui's grand plan was foiled. This cuddly, playful, and intelligent cat is now looking for a new home where he can plot his next big adventure. Adopt Maui Meowie, not just for his fluffy charm, but for his unwavering spirit and unmatched intelligence. A life with Maui is guaranteed to be full of laughter, love, and a few harmless shenanigans.

While Clear the Shelters officially starts today, we decided to kick off the fun yesterday! For the entirety of the Clear the Shelters campaign, running from August 10 - September 10, we are extending the 20% ADOPTION DISCOUNT usually reserved for our seniors and veterans to EVERYONE! This adoption discount applies to almost all of our adoptable pets with the exception of our Freedom Tails board-and-train dogs and our Barn Cats.
With cat adoptions slowing in recent months, our cat release waitlist is incredibly long - with 72 entries (many of which are multiple cats) and extends back to April. While we've made progress on our dog waitlist, it still runs 30+ dogs deep and extends back to January. Help us help them!
Happy Friday! Introducing the next class of our Freedom Tails board and train program in partnership with Stafford Creek Corrections Center. This eclectic group of pooches graduates October 31 and are looking for their future families meanwhile.
If some of them look familiar, it's because 3 of them were from the last round. They are available to adopt NOW - River, Smiley & Molly.

If you haven’t met this sweetheart, she was a real diamond in the rough, coming in with much of her fur missing. While we certainly enjoyed her lionlike appearance, she’s looking so much better as her fur continues to grow in.

Looking for a mouser? We do have 7 working/barn cats available for adoption. The cats adopted out through this program are almost always unfriendly and may not ever be able to safely be touched or petted, but they need safety and shelter as much as any other cat in our shelter. Their level of socialization varies - Grace, for example, enjoys pets and may become accustomed to home life with the right environment. Because they are used to living in colonies, these cats tend to be more interested in the company of other cats, not humans.

A HAPPY UPDATE: Earlier this month, we posted a plea for an immediate foster placement for a dog we call Peaches. As sometimes happens with under-socialized dogs, she had completely shut down upon entry into the shelter. We did find a safe foster placement for her and she is doing much better now!
Here's an update on her personality thanks to her foster:
Hello! My name is Miss Peaches, and I'm a delightful 44-pound bundle of love and intelligence looking for my forever home. I may take a little time to warm up to new surroundings, but once I do, I promise to show you all my wonderful qualities!
Personality Traits:
Smart: I love showing off my smarts once I feel comfortable. Training sessions will be a breeze because I'm eager to learn and please!
Sweet: I'm a total sweetheart who loves giving hugs and cuddles. Affection is my middle name!
Strut: You'll notice my confident strut once I'm settled. I enjoy showing off my happy-go-lucky personality.
Excitement for Breakfast: Breakfast time is the highlight of my day! I can't contain my excitement when it's time to eat.
Relationship with Other Dogs:
I adore all dogs, big and small! I'm friendly and get along well with everyone in the canine community.
Kennel Behavior: I'm well-behaved and go right into my kennel after potty breaks when it's time to sleep. I'm a good sleeper and will happily settle in for the night.
Special Considerations:
Loud Noises: I can be a bit jumpy around loud or sudden noises, so a calm and understanding environment would suit me best.
Food Guarding: I have a history of resource guarding with my food, so I need to be fed separately in my kennel to feel secure during meals.
Ideal Home:
I'm looking for a loving home where I can be cherished for my loving nature and intelligence. A family who understands my needs and will provide me with patience and positive reinforcement training would be perfect for me.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who will shower you with love and make you proud with my smarts, then I'm the dog for you! Come meet me today and let's see if we're a perfect match. I can't wait to find my forever family!

BEFORE & AFTER: Quasimodo
Oh-so-sweet Quasi has been with us since January after she was surrendered to a local vet's office with a large face abscess. Long story short, she had surgery to remove a tooth from her nasal cavity and has been healing up in a fantastic foster home.
Quasi is a cat who is the epitome of sweetness and tranquility. Her calm demeanor and affectionate nature make her a perfect companion. Quasi has a unique fondness for dogs, an unusual trait in a feline, which makes her a great fit for households with canine companions. She loves nothing more than to cuddle up with her favorite humans and furry friends, providing a comforting presence in any home. Quasi's mellow personality is truly special, making her a cat who would bring joy to any family. This cuddly cat is more than just a pet, she's a friend who will always be there for you, offering a soft purr and a warm nuzzle in times of need. Quasi is not just looking for a home, but a family who will appreciate her sweet nature and her love for life. Adopt Quasi, and bring home a bundle of love and tranquility.

Our Story
PAWS of Grays Harbor protects dogs and cats until united with family.
PAWS of Grays Harbor is the largest No Kill animal shelter in Grays Harbor County serving over 70,000 members of our community. We were established as a non profit organization in June of 1973 making our home in Aberdeen, WA. This organization serves our community through the education of pet owners; providing a safe shelter for lost, abused and unwanted pets; a reduced cost Spay and Neuter Program to limit the number of unwanted pets; and through pet adoptions to suitable homes. Many lives have been changed through the love and commitment to saving abandoned and abused pets.
Approximately 500 animals find new homes and loving families through our organization every year. At times during the year, PAWS has housed as many as 80 cats and 20 dogs at one time. These numbers fluctuate depending on the space, funds and man power available to care for these pets. We would love to take every pet in need, but are sometimes forced to turn them away until space becomes available. Through pet adoptions, community volunteers, and donations we are able to change the lives of many people and animals. When you are considering your next pet, please consider adopting a rescue animal. The life you save allows us to save one more.
Our organization relies solely on community donations to make this all possible. Please consider donating to make sure these services are available in our community for many years to come.
